What I did is get him his own little potty that looked like a normal toilet and put it in the bathroom. It will get his interest sparked and he will try on his own. Your son has time until he is 3 years old, so do not worry. If he is trained too early he may have a relapse. The summer time is the best time to train because of the heat and diapers are a discomfort. I have 3 boys that I have played my tricks on ;-) I did not give treats because the kids may just use the potty if they get something, I only praised them. GOOD LUCK!!!

I've worked in te daycare business for 10 yrs & I've done the potty training thing. Your son may not be ready but he is showing an interest in it. Here are some things that you can try that may help. Do the weekly potty chart w/stickers, it's a great motivator. If you sit him on the toilet w/out a potty seat instead of a potty chair that tends to be a little intimidating. You can also try sitting him on the toilet backwards, facing the tank of the toilet. Putting cheerios or fruit loops in the toilet & telling him to try & hit the rings. Always make a BIG deal of it when he does go potty for you. That will encourage him to keep doing it. Hope some of these ideas come in handy. Good Luck!!

the only answer to this is.. when he/she is ready if they aren't ready you are just wasting your time and may be delaying the process by pushing it.. when they use the potty praise them when they don't say maybe next time. I have both boys and a girl and they all toilet trained at different ages. my rule was you have to be trained by school age that gives you 4-5 years to do it.

I started to potty train my son at 2 and a quarter but did so in a half earnest, mostly playful manner (with some exasperated moments mixed in). I was lucky not to be in a hurry with it and at 2 and a half, Aidan decided himself he was not wearing a nappy/diaper EVER again, even when I protested and wanted him to wear one at night. He had about 4 or 5 accidents in the next few months but that was it. I know I was very lucky it was so easy and boys are MEANT to take longer than girls. If it is at all possible, it would be great if you could wait until your son is really ready and in the mean-time, let him go about for periods during the day without his diaper on or start letting him wear training pants/diapers... You'll both get there in the end ;-)

I think boys are harder than girls. My neice was potty trained at 2 and not wetting the bed at all at night. My nephew just turned 3 and only started going on the potty regularly about 2 weeks ago. I think you will know when he's ready. I'm sure you are sick of changing diapers, but I think that it's easiest not to rush it. Good luck!

i'm no expert, but sounds like he's not ready. although he may just need a little motivation. Have you tried a reward system? either a sticker chart with a toy for a successful week, or a small treat every time. Or have you tried kids books on the topic? or maybe a doll that you can teach "how to go potty" together. those are just some things i've heard about...my daughter's only 16 mos. she sits on the potty with clothes on...but freaked out when i put her on with her diaper off. lol. what do i know!
