Since birth my son is up every 40 min to an hour every single night. Some nights it's less than 40 mins. He'll drink a few swigs of the bottle or take a pacifier and he's back out again. I don't know what I can do to make him sleep longer I am a zombie all day. I have a 2 year old too who also slept poorly but not this bad. Letting him cry a bit results in a full body scream followed by choking and gasping for air. He has reflux and is on medication so letting him cry makes that worse. Can anyone help me??? Naps are 30-40 mins long, 3-4 times a day and it's very hard to get him to fall asleep for a nap. Please anyone!

I just thought of something. This is the stage where babies are close or already on more solid foods. Maybe he needs a little cereal or applesauce with that bottle at night.

My daughter started on solids at about 5mths. Just little things. It helped her. She slept about 4 to 6hrs..was lovely...

Does the baby have a routine (of sorts)? Try a bath every night, then warm milk instead of cold. Try changing his clothes, maybe they are itchy, or he's hot or cold, check out the washing detergent, is his little bed comfortable, does he sleep on his back or stomach, some kids have a preference and will not give you (and they won't have) any peace till they are comfy. Are there noises in the house at night, fridge, TV, airplanes, just crazy little things that might be keeping him up. Have you taken him to the Dr.? Does he have gas? Do you rock him to sleep?

Do you sit him up on your shoulder after a feed for 20 minutes? I know it's tiring and everything but you might get more sleep. Also chocking the top of his bed up so he's on a 45 degree angle rather than flat.

I think she was talking about the 5 mos. old not the 2 yr old. For the 5 mos. old I know he is getting older for doing this, but it might help.....have you tried swaddling or the swing or even both? I watch a little boy that is very fussy and has some kind of issue (still trying to figure it out....done the reflux stuff and now onto soy). For him what worked for me was to have him swaddled up very tightly and in a bouncy seat (I have one that bounces instead of vibrates). Another place you could try is the carseat.....sometimes laying at an angle helps their tummies. Also have you seen a change since doing the reflux meds? This little boy that I watch was on the acid reflux formula and on meds, but it did not seem to help his fussiness. He did spit up less, but would still spit up....just was not projectile. They have now switched to soy formula. He is not as fussy now (I would still consider him fussier then other babies...but he is better then before). He still spits up....some days more so then others. When they switched to soy I was also able to not have to swaddle him anymore....I think his tummy just felt better. Anyway, not sure if any of this helps. I would say just keep trying different things.
