hi all, my daughter is almost 1 year old. she has one nap in the afternoon. but is always ready for bed by about 6.30pm (which i think is too early) she tends to wake in the night between 12 and 3am. ive tried keeping her up a little later but she just gets over tired and grumpy. and ive tried letting her have another nap at six but then she's up till late b4 i can get her to settle for the night......so i was just wondering what bedtimes work for you?

my daughter is 2 and goes to bed between 7 and 7:30, wakes up at 6 am and has a nap from 2 til 4 nearly every day. i seem to recal when she was about one she would sleep from 6pm til 6am and nap from 10am til 1pm. i found at that age when she woke in the middle of the night it was because she was thursty. i would offer her a drink of water in a sippy cup, never milk and put her straight back to bed. she soon learnt mummy wasnt stuffing about and just started sleeping right through.

Hi my son is almost 14 months. He is up around 8 in the morning and then takes a nap after lunch from noon to 2 usually. At night I used to try to put him to bed early but he would just fight it so I just started looking for signs that he was tired and it's usually around 9 every night (apart from tonight that by 8 he was ready for bed). He rarely sleeps thru the night, he used to wake up for a bottle up to a couple of weeks ago, once he started eating more table food he stopped wanting a bottle, so when he wakes up now its either cause he is teething or has a bad dream or wants to come into our bed. 2 nights ago was the first night he slept thru from 9 to 7 and of course I'm so used to waking up that I didnt sleep thru anyway :)

My son basically picked his own bedtime. From 1 month to 3.5 months he would fall asleep at 7 and sleep 10 to 12 hours, waking up once. Then at 9 months and going (now 14.5 months) he goes to bed at 7:30... sometimes 8 and sleeps until 7:30, all night. He has only taking one nap since nine months from 12:30 to 2:30/3. Like I said, he basically decided that all on his own. I don't mind that he goes to bed at 7:30, because I can barely make it any later. LOL But if you want to push the bedtime back, just start moving it up slowly. Trying to get her to stay awake for 10 minutes extra each day. And don't feed her as soon as she wakes up, wait an extra 10 minutes.

My boys are 3 and 5 and their bedtime is 6:30. The 3 year old still takes a 1-2 hour nap during the day. They have always been early risers (6am), no matter what time we put them to bed, so the early bedtime works great for us. I too recommend the book "Healthy Sleep Habits, Healthy Child" by Dr. Marc Weisbluth (sp?).

I have a nearly 3 yr old and a 16 month old. My son (3 in March) rarely has a day time nap, my 16 month old has one, normally around lunch time where she will sleep for an hour - 2 hours. They are both in bed around 7pm and will both sleep till around 6-6.30am.
We have our evening meal around 5 - 5.30pm bath around 6pm then they get read books till 7pm which is bedtime. I have had this routine since my son was a few months old

honestly, at her age, 6:30 or 7 is the best time for bed. When my kids were that age their bedtime was 7. If she needs to sleep at 6:30 and she sleeps until a decent hour in the morning, don't mess with it! I don't know how long she's up when she wakes up at night, but generally that's another issue all together.

hey there! i have an 11 month old and her bed time is at 5 pm! i know right but she sleeps through the night! she has always been that way so im just truly blessed! she wakes at 6 am but naps for 30 min to an hour at 7:30 and naps again at 11:45 to 1-1:30 and she gets cranky by the time 4 rolls around! i have tried keeping her up but she just gets cranky and irritated! and still wakes up at 6 am!! so theres really no point for me to try to keep her up later, as long as she keeps sleeping through the night im gonna try my hardest to keep to this schedule just because it works out so well, for now atleast :)

Most babies transition from 2 naps to 1 nap between 14 and 16 months, however anywhere from 12 to 18 months is normal. Your daughter may have gone to 1 nap a bit too early.

It is unlikely, with most certainty, that her bedtime has anything to do with her night waking. There is no way that making her bedtime later will help her night waking, if anything it will make it worse if she becomes overtired.

A normal bedtime for a 12 month old is 7pm, so she isn't really going to bed that early, only half an hour earlier than normal. Bedtime usually stays at around 7pm until they are about 3, when it can sometimes become 7.30 or 8pm.

Her night waking is not out of the ordinary and if its only once I recommend you just wait for her to grow out of it. Some babies continue to wake once a night between 11pm and 3am until 18 months.

I have a 20 month old. Up until a month ago, her routine was bed at 7, sleep til 6, nap at 10 and up at about 1. She has since changed it herself. She now goes to bed at 8, sleeps til 7, naps at 12 til 2/3. It is advised however that 630 is a suitable bedtime for children under 3 I believe my child health nurse says. If she is tired earlier, I let her sleep. If it mean she wakes a bit more during the night then so be it, i don't agree with keeping children awake so the parents can sleep more. Children need routine and structure. Perhaps read her a story and wind down at 639, this may help her to wait until 7 to fall asleep. You also need to remember bot all children sleep through, especially at 1 year. Her waking is probably not associated with her actual bed time, perhaps she is just not ready to sleep through yet? Some children don't until 3/4 years old.

Best of luck!

My daughter is a yr and 10 months and my son is 10 months. He goes to sleep at about 6:30. He has 1-2 naps a day. He sleeps threw the night as well. He has been my easy baby. My daughter doesnt take naps anymore. We switched her to a single bed and now she wont nap. She goes to bed everynight between 7-7:30 and sleeps until about 7-8am. If she is tired before 7 I have to let her just be grumpy because if I send her to bed before she will wake uo at about 3am and want to stay awake!

my daughter is almost 18 months she goes to bed around 930. i dont believe in bed times until they have to go to school. it seems silly to force her to go to bed if shes perfectly content. she wakes up around 830-9. somtimes a little later. naps just once from about 2-4. :) shes a good sleeper.

My kids always took 2 naps but my grandkids are different, only one nap but my youngest grand baby wakes up between 6:30-8:00am and he usually naps around 11-1 and he sometimes sleeps for an hour or two. Now if he catnaps he'll usually take 2-3 of those like 15-30 minutes a piece. Bed time is usually 8:30-9:00 pm.If my daughter puts him down any earlier than 8pm he'll wake up in the middle of the night also.
Good Luck!

7 usually my 1 year old goes to bed then he'll wake up at 10 and go back to sleep until 7am if I feed him. If he wakes up at 5 my husband gives him a sippy of milk and he goes back to sleep until 7.

My 20 month old goes to bed at 6:00. And he also takes one nap that's usually 1 1/2 - 2 hours. (Sometimes longer.)

An early bedtime is kind of nice - it leaves time for DH and I to focus on our other child. Plus, she goes to bed early, too, so then we have a little down time - just us grown ups!

My baby is only 4 months old but she naps about two times a day. Her bedtime is about 10pm and then she sleeps until 7 or 8. I agree that she might need more naps. Most of the kids I know that age take two naps a day one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Maybe a heavier/heartier breakfast will help induce a morning nap. I don't think he 6:30 bedtime is really the problem but the waking up so early. If a nap doesn't help maybe you could try cosleeping? I know it is controversial to cosleep but she may be waking up because of fear or something else and you being right there could help keep her asleep all night.

Maybe a one hour nap in the morning and one in the afternoon? And bedtime at 8?

At that age, my son would sleep until about 9am. Then have a nap at about 11:30 for an hour. Then another nap at 3:30-4 for 1 to 1-1/2 hours. He went to bed for the night at 9-9:30 because his dad got off work at 8 and they would see each other that way.
I think two naps at that age helps them to stay well rested throughout the day and not be overtired at bedtime.

We do 7:30. He wakes up at around 8 am. My 13-month-old son usually has 1 nap from around noon until 3:30 or so. Recently he has sometimes had a morning nap at 10 and then gone back down at around 2, sleeping for about 4 hours total instead of 2 or 3, but I think that's because he's getting his molars.

Usually he wakes up at 10:30 pm and I go up and change his diaper and give him a 5 oz bottle with some whole milk and some formula. Then he tosses the bottle and goes to sleep without a fuss. He's awake for probably 10 minutes.

For her afternoon nap, are you waking her or is she waking on her own? If you are waking her maybe try to let her sleep a little bit longer so then she won't be as tired by 6:30 and can stay up a bit later. Both my boys used to go to bed at around 7 when they were 1 year old so I don't think the timing is all that off. Maybe she is waking between 12 and 3am because of some other reason? Maybe a bad dream or hunger?

I have a 3.5 yr old and a 1.5 yr old and they both are in bed by 7:30pm every night. My 1 yr old naps from 1-3, and then sleeps from about 8pm-7am.

If she daughter is overly tired, she will take longer to fall asleep, and not sleep as well, so if she's tired at 6:30pm, I'd put her to bed. The book, "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child" has some really great information about how to choose a bedtime for each child. I love that book and would highly recommend it.
