So my two kids birthdays are six weeks apart. My daugther will be 4 in january and my son will be one in february. They are both too young to have friends of their own so I invite my friends with kids and family but it feels awkward to invite them to two parties six weeks apart. So what do I do? Do I do to full seperate parties? One friend and family for my eldest and just family for my youngest? Or a combined party for the two of them in the middle? Suggestions?

I think if your four year old is aware of her birthday and what a special day it is - you should do something just for her but I don't think it has to be a party. We all make our own traditions and I feel that is something truly special and something she will look back on when she is older and maybe continue with her children. Maybe you take her to a fun activity, a special place, make her something or do something just you, your daughter and spouse. I see nothing wrong with a combined party. Yes, the first birthday is a special one but I would just keep it simple.

I agree with Carisa. Your son only gets one 1st Birthday. I think 1st Birthdays are very special. I would suggest have two this year. I recently wrote an article on tips for Birthday Parties. Hopefully you can find some tips helpful.

Hope this helps a bit.

My girls birthdays are one month apart. For their 4th and 1st birthday I had two parties...your son does only get one first. We only invited family (we don't have friends with kids) I generally find if I feed people, they don't mind coming over for two parties.

I have 3 birthdays within 6 weeks of Christmas so you can imagine how hard that it. My 2 girls are only 6 days apart so we combine theirs...we alternate who gets to pick out the cake each year and on the actually birthday we have cake or cupcakes to celebrate with just the 7 of us. However my oldest is 6 weeks before that and he has his own party each year.I personally think 6 weeks is to far apart to celebrate them together. Plus with them being boy girl it will be hard to combine and make both happy. We have always just done family until they have good friends and then they can invite one or 2 . Good luck! :)

hi
we used to combine birthday parties when my 2 were young. but on the actual day of their birthday as they got old enough to see the calander we would have a cake just for us at supper to celebrate the actual day.
