Hi there, I have an 8 month old. We started adding cereal to her feedings in the morning. We mixed it with her formula and she took right to it. She still has a bottle at 8 months old, but she is slowly eating more food. Lindy is right about it being like dessert. The food stuffs now are just to get them to learn how to eat and how to chew, most of their nutrition should still be from the bottle. After awhile baby will show you that she's interested in food, and then you can start like pudding, jello and mushed up fruit. My Evie, gets some table food when we go out to lunch and stuff and she just loves it. If your baby doesn't like the texture of the food keep trying every few days til she gets the hang of it. Start if very soupy at first and as she gets older it can get more lumpy. I hope this helps. :-) Good luck !!

My doctor told me that at first cereal is just a "dessert". Most of her nutrition should still come from breast milk or formula. It does take a few tries to get them to have cereal, but my son loved it that we sat him up in his high chair and he ate cereal when we ate dinner. My son didn't start on baby food for at least a couple weeks after the cereal and then it was still only as a dessert. Go slow. It won't happen over night. I would say my son didn't actually get most of his nutrition from baby food until 9 or 10 months. Your doctor should have some good advice at your 6 month check up. I hope this helps.

Hi there, I have a 4 month old. I was told that you can start the baby on cereal like rice cereal when they are 4-6 months old. My pediatrician told me that when the baby seems less full after feeding, she also said the baby may get interested in us when we are eating she said that is a sign she wants food. Another thing she told me is that if you give the baby the cereal and she spits it out like she doesn't know what to do with it then she isn't ready yet. I hope this helps!
