They are ok. However... Never ever go to empty it in your house. Its like a stink bomb! I used one with my son, but didn't with my daughter. I personally thought that it caused more work. Good luck with your choice and thats one cute kitty in your picture!

My mom had one with my brother, she wouldnt change it herself she would make me change it. Let me tell you its like walking into a giant decaying butt. You cant smell it until you change it. It was good for not having to take a garbage full of diapers every day just like 2 a week or less.

it will smell if you go months and months without cleaning it (for Jessica who was wondering why her diaper genie wasn't working) and also it has to be closed all the way. so maybe the foot pedal is jammed and the top is cracked open a little?

I use mine for poopy diapers only and never had a problem with odor. I do spray the inside with Lysol every time I change it and wash it with bleach water once a month.

TOTALLY WORTH IT!!!!!! They keep the smell from floating around in the room and everything. Just gotta remember to change it. It also depends on the type of diaper genie you get cause some trap the smell and thing get gross inside quick and some genie's keep to where the smell doesnt fill up the room but also doesnt let thing get all nasty inside either. So if you get one get a good one they are very worth the $$$ and worth using!!

I had 2 in diapers @ the same time.....so in my honest opinion.........YES it was worth it, especially in the summer months when u really don't want that in a warm house, even if u have air conditioning!!! DOUBLE WHAMMY!
my brother & my sister in law are now using it for their baby, and it has wrapped many a diapers! LOL
SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO WORTH IT! maintenance wise, it is easy to look after, i usually just popped it into the sink or shower every couple of weeks and gave 'er a rinse out and we were good to go again. (if u ever do start to notice a smell from it), but it usually was pretty good to mask the poopy smells. We would hit up wal-mart when they had the refills on sale and buy like 5 or 6 at a time, just for the fact that we knew we'd definately use them!

I personally like the fact that I dont have to walk diapers outside on a daily basis with new born your changing them like every hour lol I also like how the bags in the diaper genie dont create a foul odor in my room . I was just so busy with my daughter plus the house i use to live in was two story , so it was a big help to have one . I only used it for about a year until I was changing diapers so often .

I use one only for the stinky diapers and the pee ones go in the normal garbage it save on the trips I would have to run outside.

I love mine!!!!! I have the Diaper Genie II, as the first one used to make like a sausage links of diapers, and that was lame, but the II locks them in one tube bag, and I hear the BRAND new one is even better. I would NEVER have a baby without mine! when it's full we tie it up and take straight out to the dumpster. NEVER had a smell from it, and mine's in my kitchen! VERY worth it!!! My son is 2 now, and we are potty training, and I like that even his pull-ups fit in it!

I think it worked great, until you opened the lid! I bought one for my first and totally hated having it. The diapers never seemed to fall down deep enough and we always had to push them down which at some points caused leaky diaper syndrome that of course always ended up on your hands! Then to buy the special bags over and over that didn't really do anything for the smell.....I was over that one fast!!! So i opted out! The smelly bags work well especially if you get travel size for the car but other than that I think plain old boring trash cans work just fine!

Definitely worth it. My son is a year old and does wonders for his stinkies :p I do often spray it with Lysol when it starts to get stinky, but is not quite ready for a change. We also spray it down when we empty it out. But we love it! And a lot cheaper than buying the scented bags.

SOOO not worth the costs! The diaper champ works great and uses regular trash bags. It's amazing.

I highly recommend them, in fact, I absolutely LOVE mine. My husband and I did not get one originally. We just had a small trash can in her room, but we had a problem with normal trash bags ripping, and then dirty diapers would go every where. After the second time that happened we bought one. First, the bag is thick and never rips. Second, and most importantly there are never any smells. That comes in very handy. It is shocking how bad their diapers smell.

i really thought the genie stunk really bad! the diaper champ tho...awesome...its about the same price...no extra money for special bags...and i put mine on my stairs in my garage...no stink...no flies...so easy to use...i wouldnt get a genie tho...over-rated :) good luck!!

i think its worth it i didnt use one when i had my daughter because i thought they were pointless but when i had my son when my daughter was only a yr old i decided to get one because the smell of double the diapers was terrible...worth it!

We used both cloth and disposable diapers, until my son turned 3. Then we used disposable diapers and pull-ups. We got a Diaper Genie from our baby shower, so we didn't have to worry about the cost of buying one, we have loved having it to use! It is SO worth having because they contain the smells! The liner bag refills can last quite a while once you get the hang of using them. And they make them scented to help contain the smells. Where I live they only cost $5-something at Wal-Mart.



TIP #1: SMELLY PAILS -- For ANY type of diaper pail or trash can that starts to smell, take it outdoors and open it up completely and set it in your yard so that sunlight shines into it. Allow it to sit out ALL day. Between the sunlight and fresh air, the smells will disappear. You might also try wiping it with a bleach and water solution (look up a ratio online) to disinfect it. That will also help with the smells. I recommend this tip for BOTH pee-pee and poopy diaper pails/cans.



TIP # 2: I decided to try using a separate "bathroom" trash can for just pee-pee diapers. I found that it really does save us money this way because we empty our Diaper Genie pail less often, saving us money on the special liner bag refills. We probably buy a refill once every 4 months or less, FYI.



TIP # 3: If you've got flies in your pail/can that means the it is NOT being emptied often enough. The next step after those flies appear are maggots. Start emptying the pail more often.

I used one for my first. Then for my next three I just used the garbage. I take the garbage out everynight anyways so I prefer to do it that way. The diaper genie can hold lots and lots of diapers but it is still disgusting when you have to take the bag out and throw it in the garbage. Also I didn't like the added expense of buying the genie garbage bags and then bags for the house garbage. It is just easier and for me personally more effective to use the house garbage and take it out every night. I didn't find that it made the house smell at all. If your concerned about smell place a small plastic bowl of baking soda at the bottom of the garbage can. it will absorb smells.

i dont really think they are worth it. its just an additional cost to buy the refills for it, i just throw them in the trash can and we go through so much anyway we get rid of it b4 it stinks!

It is amazing i have one and you can really tell the differance, when i run out and have to use the trash can in my daughters room theres a big difference i highly suggest you get one.

we hung a bag outside the kitchen door and yes in the summer the smell got pretty bad!! but now we are potty training!!!! hoooray!!!!! so long nappies, farewell smell hello flush it down the loo!

If you have the cash to blow on a nappy disposal system go for it if not a plastic carrier bag does the job albeit less fragrant!

I bought 2 and the first one the smell did not stay in the diaper genie so i bought the diaper genie 2 and it works but once you open the lid and throw in a diaper the smells comes shooting out. It is good but it could be better, and yes trash bags are so much better than the regular ones you buy at the stores....

I never had one. We put the diapers in the garbage and have NEVER had issues with odour or anything. So essentially we saved lots of money by not having to buy bags every month because that $5 or $8 adds up after 2 years time.

My friend gave me her diaper champ, she was selling at her garage sale, so she just gave it to me! I wasnt planning on buying one. I do love it. If there are too many poopie diapers in there, the odor stinks up the room. I now only put wet diapers in it and put the poop ones in the outside trash can. I think they are worth it!

Don't waste your money. The refills are expensive. And they're a pain in the butt to use. Just save your grocery store plastic bags and tie the poop diapers up and take your trash out regularly...

NOOOO!!!! get the Diaper Champ, SO much easier to use, and you do not have to buy special bags for it, it also holds twice the dirty diapers and is a snap to operate!

Totally worth it!!!!!!!!! Otherwise you'll have very stinky garbage and will be making lots of trips to the garbage outside!! :) They aren't expensive around $35 and the refills are only $5-8 ...we only have to get refills every month or so. I'd say get one!

while i couldn't talk myself into using cloth diapers, i still wanted to be on the greener side and not use a ton of individual bags for each diaper. the way the genie system works you'll only use as much plastic as you need. i got the diaper genie elite II and the foot pedal is great. i also like the slim design of it because i was able to hide it between the changing table and dresser in the corner of the room where i can access it but you really can't see it from anywhere else. as for stink level, i haven't had a chance to test it yet because my lil girl doesn't want to come out. :)

We had the Diaper Genie for our oldest son and it was great. No diaper odor. However, for our twins, it filled up way too fast so we just used a garbage pail with a lid for them and it was ok too.

I did not like the Diaper Genie because you had to buy the special bags. We bought the Diaper Champ when we had our second son and it is great because you can use any bag in it.

I used a Diaper Genie with my first two kids... 16 & 18 years ago! It worked fine for me. Am trying to remember, but I think the bag was scented? It would be great if you could find one at a yard sale.

I have the Diaper Pail by Munchkin and Arm and Hammer, ( I wasn't planning on having one either but my mother INSISTED and if she was buying why not?) it's a tad cheaper than the Genie, but I love it. It has a built in dispenser for baking soda to help neutralize the smell. I don't smell it at all, and I'm so glad my mom got it!

I have the Diaper Genie 2. I love it. Since I have 2 boys in diapers at the moment it is only for poop diapers and the pee ones go in the trash. The only time I find it smells is when you put a diaper in it when it already does the smell comes out for a few seconds and then when you cut the bag and tie it up so you can throw it out when it's full. But you not can find these disks that take the smell out of the pail just by putting them in the bottom of the pail.

When my teenager was a baby I got a Diaper Genie and hated it from day one. That was 14 yrs ago. Now , I got a Diaper Genie 2 for my 3 yr old baby shower and I love it. I am always busy with my teenager schedule and chasing my 2 younger boys. We also have 4 dogs. With the Diaper Genie, I don't have to worry about one of the boys getting into the diaper pail or the dogs finding a dirty diaper. For me the extra cost has been worth it.

I have a Diaper Genie II Elite and I LOVE it!! It is the one that has a foot pedal, so I never even have to stick my hand down in there. Even when I change it, the smell doesn't really escape. It's also nice because it has a cutter inside to cut the bags! I only empty mine when it is full, maybe once a week or so. I definitely recommend it though!!

yess!!! get one!!! we spent 10months with the knock off stinking up our house!! yeah you gotta buy the special bags for it, but trust me... you'll save money on air fresheners!! plus the bag refill thingys last pretty long. we were having to change the knock-off bags bout every 3 days or less... the genie holds alot more. so in theory you would be spending probably just as much in garbage bags as you would the refills, really. plus the knock-off gets SOOOO gross and i tried every way possible to clean it... no way. the genie, once your done with it, you can sell it or give it away since the diapers never touch anything but the bag.
