She didn't really hit her head i caught her a little and her head hit her arm. She doesn't have a bumb there was only a slight redness. But now its gone. Anyone else experiance this? I just wanna know i'm not the only mother and feel so bad.

ohmygosh.. my lil 9mo old girl fell off my bed yesterday morning.. i have never felt SO bad and like the worst mommy out there for having dozing off. :( I'm still worried about it, I feel paranoid like, I'm praying nothing is wrong, she's not vomitting or any symptoms of a head injury, when i found her she was on all fours, and didn't appear to have hurt her head.. she has a slight bruise on the side of her head, not that noticeable but I'm still worried... She's acting as normal like the fall didn't ever happen, so I guess that is a good thing. Thanks for posting, after reading some replies, I feel alittle bit better about my situation. =)

PS I also have took off my box spring so my bed (2 mattresses) is closer to the ground now plus i have scattered huge floor pillows around my bed..

ok.......to top all of the stories i have read here.........my son was hours old when he fell off the bed at the hospital. i was breastfeeding him and fell asleep. he rolled off me and through the bars of the hospital bed right onto the floor. When i felt him move i woke up. Scared me to death. He didnt even cry but i sure did enough for both of us. I got the nurse in there to look him over, and can you believe she said i wasnt the first new mom to have that happen. I was so scared they wouldnt let me take my baby home with me after that.

When he was two he jumped off a toy chair into his daddys gun cabinet. Had to have his head glued. When he was 6 he flipped a childs 4-wheeler and broke his arm. TWO days after having the cast off we were at the er getting 3 stitches in the bottom of his foot where he jumped off the bed and landed on a toy.

Now he is 9 years old and just last week when we were at my brothers house, he wrecked a dirt bike into a fence. BOYS!!!

He scares the life out of me. Dont worry i make him wear all the protective gear.

My 2 year old daughter has fell off the bed once and off the couch a handfull of times. No er trips. Yet. She is a tomboy though so im just waiting and watching.

We have had to take my 4 month old daughter to the er when she was 2 months old for a head trauma. My 9 year old was chasing the 2 year old. She jumped up on the couch where my husband was sitting to get away from him and bumped heads with the baby and gave her a nice goose egg.

She was fine though but we dont allow any running at all in the house now.

My daughter took a tumble off a chair the other day....i think she thought she was in a different spot and she leaned backwards. Needless to say my husband and I were completely freaked out, but our daughter was fine. Didn't cry, just a bit shellshocked.

It's definitely going to happen!

My hubby and i were at my best friends house on July 4th in 2009 my son had just turned a year old and we hadnt been able to hang out with her alot in a long time we were having a get together to catch up and he was sitting in her recliner playing on the Rock Band drums and got too excited and flipped and hit his head he had a pretty good gash , she is a nurse and she immediatly jumped into action stopped the bledding and then told us to go ahead and take him to the ER just in case well we were about 20 mins from the closest hospital well the people at the ER looked at me like i was the worst mother ever they were asking how it happened what time it happened etc.. It took us over 4 hours cause they had a major head trauma come in i cried and cried and beat my self up about it untill the doctor came in and told me that he is a boy and boys will be boys and they are gonna fall and hurt themselves and i was not a bad mother so to stop beating myself up about it which is what my hubby had been trying to tell me for 4 hours. Kids are gonna fall and hurt themselves that doesnt make you a bad mother.

My 9 month old fell off the bed once when I was watching her and then when she was a bit older she fell off again when her dad was watching her. She is perfectly fine now. The floors were carpeted though. It scared me to death too but it caused no bumps or bruises. I felt horribly guilty and still do about it.

My son fell off our bed at 4 months. He had just started to pull up on things and pulled up on his dads back and went right over onto the floor. it was pretty high up and it dazed him bad for a while, freaked me out! We ended up rushing him to the ER but he was totally fine! Thank God! The people at the hospital acted like it was no big deal, they said babies do it all the time and are normally just fine! It just scares the crap out of the parents!

mt at the time 5mth old fell face first from her highchair onto the wooden floor! 6 hours at the childrens hospital later for observation, we were sent home, she was fine, just bruised. No xray as they didnt wanna expose her brain at that age to the xrays. I was able to get the portraits id had her booked in for weeks done 8 days after, with no signs she had done a thing :D
Side note: the docs said to us, 'Dont worry too much, kids are designed to bounce and be flexible' a little confronting at the time lol but its true i guess.

OMG...... HEAVENS YES!!!!!!!! It was off the bed, the bed is pretty high and it was three times... The first time we were playing on the bed and he kelp getting up and falling down all over the bed so finally he did it and BOOM on the floor and i tryed to catch him but i missed... I felt so bad. He only cried for a couple of seconds and looked me and start smiling and jumping in my arms and the only thing I could do was laugh... The second time was when we were on the bed again and this time we were sleep and he rolled all the way to the edge and I had a pillow blocking him so he can rool over. So he rolled over the pillow and onto the floor and I jump up so fast and picked him up and rocked him and kissed him and told him, "It's go be o.k." Finally the third time he was playing again and this time he fell back and I caught his leg and his head barely hit the floor. But in the process of doing that, I scratched up his legs with my nails and it was too the meat.... I felt terrible...

I placed my then 4mth old in the centre of my king sized bed and ran to hand something to my hubby in the other room, whilst I was in there, we heard a thud. My heart totally stopped. The kid managed to roll right off the bed and just missed our huge oak dresser! He was fine but I felt like a super horrid mom. I was afraid to touch him for like 2hrs after that. It was bad but it happens.

actually both of my children have fallen off the couch. My daughter fell of the couch at 4 months old and landed on carpet. Just last night my 3 month old son fell of the couch on hard wood floors he had a little bump the biggest thing I think it is is that it scares them. I honestly can say it happens to even the most perfect mother.

Jessica,

We always will do our best to keep our kids safe from harm but there will be times when accidents happen. We cannot blame ourselves all the time. What we need to do is make sure they are fine and if they are hurt we make sure they get the right treatment and just hope and pray they will not hurt themselves too soon again. Its part of being kids, I guess. Take care and don't get yourself too worried.

When my husband and I moved in to our new apartment with our 3 month old daughter we had had to use floor heaters to heat the apt cause the heater wasn't working right. Well I forgot that my husband had the floor heater in the living room heating it and I went to turn around and walk off with our daughter i had trip and fell with her in my arms. She had hit her head on the floor my husband and i rushed her to the Er where they did a CT scan and Thank god everything came back ok and she was fine. I felt so horrible I was crying and i felt like a bad mom. But then I later learned that the nurse that was looking after my daughter had did that and then i didn't feel as bad but i did feel bad still. I had her in the same bed with us til i was ready to put her in her bed.

My daughter fell off of our bed when she was 6 months old. She hit her head on my nightstand and although she didn't bleed I was terrified. Fortunately, babies bones are really pliable so it takes a little more than a fall for their bones to break, but that didn't stop my fear of it happening again. As much as I tried to prevent it from happening again she found something else to fall from and hasn't done any other damage besides the toddler bruises. They have come to learn that getting hurt means that mommy gives extra hugs and kisses and a popsicle to make the pain go away. It seems to work so far.

My daughter is past 2 now, and she has fallen and scared me at least three times so far. They were all accidents and she's fine. As parents we have to be careful, but no one's perfect and your child will fall and get hurt eventually, hopefully later for you. The first time for us was when we were feeding my daughter around 7mo or so and she fell off the bench in our kitchen, with her booster seat, onto the floor. There was lots of crying and guilt, but no real injury. :)

not the nicest experience for a mother 2 feel guilty bout their child having an accident. i put my 7 and half month old son on the bed whilst he was asleep whilst i made his bed up, i went 2 grab some sheets from the next bedroom 4 litterally 30 seconds...and i heard a bang then cry, my heart was in my throat...i felt soo bad but kids have their bumps and bangs some more serious than others but the cry is more to do with the shock than the pain. happens to evry child and parent. x

It will probably happen again! My son (5 yrs) just fell off the back of the couch and hit the wood floor like a belly flop to the face. He cried and we put an ice pack on it for a bit. Children's tylenol before bedtime as a preventative for headache. I hope she feels ok. Oh yeah, at 6 months he also went down 6 carpeted steps and then 2 more. The pediatrician said because it was more than 4 steps, go to ER to be sure. He was fine. Kids are pretty good healers.

my daughter fell off the changin table once. she was about 3 months. and my changin tables a good 3/4ft. i felt soo bad. i had walked to the closet which was only a few steps away. dumb move, i know. but i wasn't expectin her to roll. she was fine tho. another time on easter, she had fallen down some hard wood stairs and got this huge bump on her head. my husand was watchin her and went to go throw something away and left her by the top of the stairs. i FREAKED OUT!!! especially when i saw the huge knot right on her forehead! she screamed and screamed. we just kept her awake for about an hr or 2 to make she there was no head trama. no ER run tho. we put a piece of raw meat on it(like the old days) and the bump went down.. fast! but then there was a bruise for at least 2wks. she still kinda has a bump on her forehead where she hit. but the dr said she did't feel any cracks or breakage so she wasn't worried. eveyone's right when they say it does happen. i'm one of those mom's tht say"oh tht will never happen to me or my child" but boy was i wrong about a lot of things. good luck!

when my son was 4 months old, I left him with my mother for an hour and when I came home I found out that she had placed him in his car seat without buckling him, took him outside my apartment and was locking the door when he flipped out of the car seat and rolled down 15 wooden stairs. The ambulance was on its way, she was freaking out and crying and he was too, but as soon as i held him he stopped crying (probably because I wasn't freaking out), I took the phone and gave better directions and the EMTs checked him out and said he had to be observed for 2 hours to make sure he didn't have brain trauma--he didn't. all he had was a skinned up mouth.

SO--yes babies can survive--however, each fall or bump on the head is different and if you ever have a baby fall always check their eyes to make sure they both dilate and watch them for two hours--if they become drowsy, call 911 right away (unless it's normal bedtime or something).

Had a tiny cut under her eye which eventually turned into a black eye but other than that was totally fine! And then a couple weeks ago she was in bed with me and my hubby and Richard got up to get her ready for the day and she tried to follow what he did and cart wheeled off the bed! don't beat yourself up about it!! when my daughter was 4 mos old, she kicked herself through the rungs of our spare bed's headboard and fell between the bed and the wall. i was asleep right beside her and awoke to the sounds of her falling and screaming !!! can i tell you i've never experienced such terror in my life!! she was fine, no bumps bruises or redness, but we never slept in that bed again!! i think unless you are super vigilant wonder-mom, every child falls off something at some point!! :)

[deleted account]

Jessica don't worry it happens to every mother. When my daughter was about 4 months old she rolled off our high bed and onto the hardwood floors, whimpered a little and went right back to sleep. She is now 8 and perfectly fine. My son was about 4 months old when his dad was carrying him into the house down our concrete steps and his ankle gave out and both of them went falling. My hubby tried to twist so Chris wouldn't get hurt but he still hit his head, we rushed him to the ER and he was fine. My hubby not so much he twisted his ankle pretty bad. Chris is now 4 and has a new bruise almost everyday. Siblings fight and will hurt each other at times, it's just how it is. Wait till she starts climbing and walking :) As long as you watch her and nothing is out of the ordinary then all is fine. Any doubts call the dr, stuff happens and any good dr will know such.

It's hard to say but my son used to fall off the couch all the time. He was just so wild and sporadic. But my daughter is not that way which is a blessing. She's a tough one but she has a little more body control even as an infant. She's only nine months old.

The thing I learned about babies is that their skulls/bones are actually soft enough that they're almost like a rubber bouncy ball, for lack of a better comparison. They're not hard, like our bones, so when they fall and hit their heads, it's more of a bounce, whereas when we as adults hit our heads it's more like crack! My son has taken a few spills, mainly off of my bed, but he's always been fine. The worst was when he was trying to pull himself up at my husband's feet and slipped and hit his head on the computer chair leg. I was a bit freaked out, but I kept an eye on him and his eyes were fine, he did develop a bruise, but he saw his pedi right after and she said he was fine. He's also a daredevil and so many times I've had to stop him from walking off the steps at our apartment when we leave to go somewhere. He's very adventurous.

Don't feel bad, momma. As everyone has said, accidents can, and will, happen. I know how hard it is not to feel guilty or be upset, but try not to, because they not only are fine, most times, unless they take a serious fall, of course, but they also forget it fairly quickly. They moved on, you should try to also =) I know. Easier said than done, right? lol

One of my daughters fell off my parents king size bed at 4 months..it is like two feet off the floor and it scared me to death, of course I felt horrible but she was fine. I think all of mine have taken a spill except the new baby ( its just a matter of time I am sure ). Had one at around 2 years to tumble off the top of a bunk bed, one at a year and half walked off my parents front porch ( this is one of those old houses with a tall front porch)..the list goes on. Falls happen :P.

[deleted account]

Actually my daughter was in the hospital with a respiratory infection at about 12 months old, and she actually fell of the bed while we were in the hospital. The nurses were very unhappy with me and came running with a release for me to sign. It was a total accident though it just takes a moment. She's eighteen now, believe me they grow up just fine despite all of the unexpected things we aren't prepared for.

Dont feel bad! Your little one is fine! She will experience more accidents along the way, it is the only way they learn!! When my 3yr old was 5 months, I put her in a swing and didnt realize the tear in the fabric of the strap til after the fact! I raised the little tray to pick her up and she slipped out and landed face down on ceramic tile. As if she was covered in oil, thats how fast it happened. The swing got tossed outside in my frantic mood at the time! She had a lifted bump on her forehead for a few days. I felt like the worst mother ever!! We never used that swing again because the strap broke. If only I had checked it out as i strapped her. When she turned 2, she went head over heels down the stairs and had a skinned up face for 2 wks. Both my husband and I could not get to her fast enough! Anyhow, things happen and will! .As long as you look for the danger and try to avoid it, thats really all you can do. Hope my experiences help calm you! Take care

Hey my name is Jamie I am the mother of a 20month old and 3month old and yes it has happened to me...Actually twice in one day not that I wasn't watching just that is a spit second accidents can happen...I felt really bad but, I did waht I was always told kept her awake for at least the next hour, then watched for vomiting, loss of apitite and check on them during the night every hour or two...She was fine, but you still feel bad everytime and question yourself what could you have done differently...Your answer is nothing accidents will happen...Moms can't sit by the babies side every waking second of the day, we have stuff to get done as well...
