Do you "wind," up the Vaccuum cord?

LOL!! I often wonder about the little things like that, too. I usually do wind it up because I don't have to worry about untangling it. If I have a lot to do and no time, I throw it on, and then get so mad at myself the next time I use it (which is almost everyday).

I use slave labor on my vaccum.... i put either the 6 yr old or the 4 yr old on it, that is their "chore" when we are cleaning up, one does that the other helps load the dishwasher and push the start button

It too depends on my mood or rather how exhausted I am for vacuuming is the last thing I do when cleaning.

im also in Australia n i hav a dyson n it has a retractable cord n every1 in my family hav dyson 2 n they all have retractable cords to thank the lord coz i would prolly toss it in the cupboard all messy lol

Jennifer my husband's the same. Once, only once, he felt the need to instruct me on how to get those perfect lines and said i had to do it that way from then on. I told him I was no good at making those lines and because he was so much better and vacuuming than me he better do it from now on. The vac didn't get used for about a month and had to be professionally done. haha he hasn't said anything about the way vacuuming should be done since.

lol do you mean when you press the button and it sucks the cord up? i do it everytime, its too easy to not do it and feels so good to do it knowing i can put the stupid thing away :)

My husband says he has a strange love of vaccuuming. He likes to make lines in the carpet and has an affinity for using a vaccuum.



Could have fooled me... he hasn't touched the vaccuum in about 2 years. :O

I like to remind him every now and then that maybe he should reconnect with his old love. :))

Considering that all it takes for me to do so is the push of a button, I'd be rather lazy if I didn't. My husband doesn't though. It drives me nuts. Just be glad he vacuumed maybe?

I can't leave the vacuum anywhere my daughter can get it though. She is obsessed. Yesterday I thought I'd leave it out because we were going to be moving furniture later so I knew I'd need it again and she ended up pulling the cord all out and trying to plug it in while I was doing the dishes. But the good news is when the cord got tangled around her leg she actually noticed and removed it. Proof that my kid is smarter than the family dogs. Yay!

Yes always, I don't have a closet to hide the vacuum. It makes it look neat, plus my son won't play with it and pull the vacuum down on top of him though that isn't as much of a concern any more...it still keeps him from getting too interested in it.

we just have a button that we press on the vacuum cleaner and it whips it back up again so it's not a big effort and if for some reason I don't do it my two year old will do it without fail he gets a kick out of watching it zip back up lol.

I have a rebuilt Electrolux and it winds the cord back up all by itself. I've never had a vacuum that didn't police its own cord.

Most of the time I wind up the cord. My lil girl likes to hold the end of the cord stretched out all the way and as im winding it up come closer to me...and she even hooks the end to the cord :) I love having a little helper

Everytime. It wouldn't fit in the closet otherwise. It also drives me insane. I think it's because at work it would always get tangled and I'd have to spend 5 minutes untangling it.

ha ha! Brilliant post :) Same as you....it depends what mood I'm in. SOmetimes I wind it up neatly, sometimes I wrap it round my arm and chuck it in a corner......sometimes it all just gets left there in the middle of the room (If I'm really stressed lol)

I have a Henry hoover where the cord winds up into the top of the hoover but I never have to wind it up my 3 year old daughter gets absolute joy from doing it for me and she gets rather upset if I don't let her do it,lol....I just love the most silly and simple thing that light up my little angel's day.lol.

I used to be more anal about little silly things like that, but then I had kids! :-) I have three kids born in less than 5 years, so we have been on survival mode for a while, and have no time or sanity to worry about non essential things. I just wrap it up in my hands and hand it on the hook. The vacuum is permanently parked in the dining room because we have carpet there and I have to use it everyday. It goes in the closet only when we have company! :-) My little guy is fascinated with it, but he has his own little vacuum, so he leaves mine alone for the most part.

I wrap it on my hand and hang it on the hook. We have a Dyson and the handle extends out to become the hose. So if I just want to clean up something with the hose real quick, I have to completely unwind the whole thing which is really annoying.

Our vacuum stays in a closet inside the laundry room. Nobody sees it and it's not dangerous for the cord to be wrapped loosely because it's out of the way.

Yes I always do. I don't have a retract button so I have to do it manually, but I prefer to being that it's a safety precaution.

Yes, I like to have it stay tidy or when I vacuum the cord will be in knots and make my job of vacuuming longer. I've seen the cord get frayed if it isn't tied up correctly and I'd rather not have to buy new vacuum's too often. My husband just loops or throws the cord into the cupboard after putting away the vacuum, it frustrates me.

I ALWAYS wind the cord and put the vacuum away because only ONCE did I not do it and caught my daughter fascinated with it!!! That was the day I learned that I could not leave the cord out!! I always wind it up and put it away...apparently she was fascinated with it because she wanted to try to help clean one day and thought it was a good idea to go play with the real vacuum....so I learned my lesson quickly that it gets put away instantly after cleaning!!!

@Lani. With my vacuum you just press a button and the cord goes into the vacuum. Everyone in my family has the same thing. My vacuum is only 5 yrs old. I have't seen the ones where you have to hang the cord but then again dyson is out of price range so I don't really look at them, because then I would probably want what I can't have. lol

Always! I am far from a neat freak, but winding up the vacuum cord is one thing I always have done. I have never thought of NOT doing it - and there are a lot of things I DON'T do. I guess I just feel like it would get too tangled if I didn't wind it up, then it would be all over the place.

Really, Claudia? I'm in Aus too, I have a dyson & have to wind the cord around little hook bits (which I do every time). I actually haven't seen a vacuum with a retractable cord since I was a kid, but then I haven't really been looking!

Yes I do wind it up on the hooks. My husband however, winds it up on his arm and then just hangs it on the hooks. I really can't stand that so I end up unwinding it and doing it the right way. I'm anal about such things, even though I'm no clean freak, but there are a few things that need to be done my way or it's wrong!

Never. I do the quick loop to get the bulk together and throw it over that top holder. Why bother? What a waste of time. Your just going to take it out the next day unwind it again..... so why not have it just sort of hanging out the way. Heck, I'd throw it in a closet unwound and shut the door for all it really matters.

Think about it. How much time do we spend in our lives doing meaningless little things all the time? I have better things to do than wind a cord up religiously every other day........ no thanks :)

I press the button to wind the vacuum cord or else it probs wouldn't fit in the vacuum cupboard. press button winder cords are old lol
