I use Arbonne's Baby Care Set, and absolutely love it..When i started using it on my kids it went aways so quickly.. They can bath everyday if they want i dont have to worry about it coming back. The set comes with baby wash, lotion, sunscreen, diaper cream, and an oil..All products are water based, no mineral oil. They are botanically based and have been tested by a pediatrician as well as a dermatoligist and optomlogist. They are very safe products and work great. If you are interested please contact me today and i can send you a sample to try first before buying..looking forward to hearing from you.

My son doesn't have eczema but I sure do. The best thing that has worked for me is hydrocortisone cream and eucerin cream. I apply it after shower. I also was prescribed a special cream when I was younger but just my luck I cannot find where I put it. I hope all of our responses have helped you. You'll find the right cream, lotion, whatever it is your child needs don't worry.

Hi, I haven't read all replies as there are so many, so maybe someone else has already suggested this
. I have two dairy intolerant children age 6 and 9 yrs old. I have tried all the medically supplied creams, and I found that if I use pure coconut oil (from Holland and Barrett, I'm in UK) within two days even the worst excema had improved within two days and within a week was so much better. ( not totally cleared in two days)
I must admit it is very oily as it is just coconut oil, no other ingredient, and is a bit expensive at £11:99 a tub, but the tub is quite big.
I bathe the kids at bedtime and put it on then in pure cotton pajamas
(due to the oily nature the pajamas will need daily washing, and it makes hair very oily if in contact with scalp)
we were at a loss what to do and this was a fantastic find for any person with allergies as it is totally pure. Hope this helps someone as much as it helped us. :)

Quoting Sara:

prescription cream by Fougera- called Triamcinolone Acetonide Cream USP 0.5 %.

This stuff really works. However, it is a steroid and it can weaken the immune system. The doctor prescribed it for my son with that warning and sure enough the eczema would go away after a couple applications, but he would always get sick afterwards. I stopped using it.

Ucerin Calming does okay. My mom used this stuff called Udder Cream on my brother (who had severe eczema) and she swears by it.

Also you could try cutting down a bit on bathing b/c sometimes too much can irritate skin w/ eczema.

Hi, Im alittle confused, was he diagnosed by a dermatoglist, if so have the derm refer you to an allergist as well as a dietitican(sp?) foods can cause these skin problems but they must be found by specialists.

My daughter and I both have eczema and this has helped us so much. I even rub the bath oil on like a soap and my skin feels so mosturized with out all the greasy oily feeling.
I buy it online too so I get an extra discount. Sometimes I even get it for free!!

Both my kids have eczema, my son had it really bad last winter, and after going to doctor after doctor and using steroid cream after steroid cream (which i really didn't want to use in the first place) i met an old-school doctor who told me to let him soak in a warm bath for 15-20 minutes and then take him out, pat him dry with a towel and put vaseline all over him (make sure you put old pajamas on after- because they will get ruined) i did this for 3 nights in a row and his skin went from raw and almost bleeding to being normal again!!

My son had this problem as a baby & toddler, and it finally developed into a staph infection that was very hard to beat. If it's really bad & over-the-counter remedies aren't working, you may need to take him in. I'd also recommend Mary Kay's Extra Emollient Night Cream if it's not too bad.

when my daughter was about a month old she developed really bad eczema and so her health care provider told me to try cortaid 1% hydrocortisone Anti-itch cream and i used that for a long while then I found baby eczema cream at target and I totally fell in love with that for her. You can't miss it, it's in the actual baby section where all the bath and lotion stuff is at. It has the baby pooh bear clan on the cover of the box but PLEASE don't listen to me because it is best to ask your childs health care provider so they can proscribe what's best for your little one. Good luck!!!

I see most people here are focusing on lotions and creams. There are many things that touch your skin that can irritate the skin. And with eczema you need to be vigilant about everything that touches your skin. I have switched to unscented laundry detergent that is also pH balanced so it's gentle on clothes and skin. I got rid of all personal care products that contain harsh ingredients (even all household cleaners). I also use Renew Lotion, which has been mentioned in a few other posts. It is clinically proven to work better and faster than Eucerin. It has tea tree oil in it which is well known for its soothing, healing and antiseptic properties. So it penetrates into the deeper layers of skin to promote healing. I would for sure look into more natural personal care and laundry products. or contact one of the ladies from earlier posts about the Renew lotion. It certainly can't hurt to try it. It works WONDERS on eczema and just dry skin in general too.

I had it when I was younger and my son has it now and the things I was told to try was olive oil (I havent done this yet) and non perfumed moisturizer, so I DO use vaseline the yellow squirt pump moisturizer on him. Its not really worth buying the most expensive things when the simplest things can do just fine. It also depends on the severity of it.

I suffer from excema from time to time and both my daughters have it as well. After several years of extreme agony, I discovered we are all allergic to peanut nuts. There are good creams out there but they are all a quick fix, i would recommend you have your son tested for allergies. If your pediatrician will not do the testing start taking things out of his diet one at a time it may take a few weeks of being persistent and keeping a journal will help. But i bet you will find he has a food allergy. i hope this helps a little

I haven't yet read all the replies, but for us, allergies were (and are) to blame. Dietary allergies, environmental allergies. The best we could do was to avoid trigger foods, and manage the flare ups as they could. Elidel is amazing stuff. Lots of people swear by sorbolene, but we found that it irritated the girls' skin more. We also try to stick to natural products for bathtime, with the exception of a paraffin-based antibacterial bath oil. It helps manage the bacteria on the skin, minimising the number of skin infections we've had. Having said that, I had to do a lot of experimenting with different products to find a combination that worked for us - each child will respond differently to different products, and it's one of those things that EVERYONE, myself included, has advice to offer. All the best to you, and keep us posted on how you're going with it!

My son also suffered horribly from eczema. I tried so many products and nothing worked until I found Aquafor for babies made by Eucerin. I believe babies r us sells it and some groceries stores do as well. It can be used on both the hair and body. I also rubbed him down twice a day with Aveeno baby cream (the one with the dark blue cap). He's three now and I still use the Aveeno cream on him after his bath.

Have you tried using dye and perfume free laundry detergents to wash his clothing. I used Tide Free and Downy Free. Now my son can tolerate the original scents in both of these but for the first two years I didn't chance anything.

A pediatric dermatologist once told me that when looking for lotions (creams, ointments, etc) that creams are better than lotions and ointments are better than creams. Ointments are kind of gross because it's like slathering them with Vaseline. So I only used ointments on spots that were particularly inflamed. The Aveeno cream worked great for him.

Hope that helps ... I hope, like my son, your little guy has less problems with eczema as he gets older.

The first allergist we went to said my son was allergic to milk, soy, peanuts, all things I ate frequently. He was exclusively breast fed at the time. The dr. said I should stop BF'ing him and switch to ElleCare. He also said to soak him in water then immediately put lotion (vanacreme or cetaphil) on his skin. I didn't like the advice, but I avoided those three th ings in my diet while still BF'ing him. Still had eczema. Went to another Dr. who said to continue BF'ing and gradually add those foods back into my diet. Glad I got a 2nd opinion, because my son outgrew the eczema. Cetaphil was the biggest help, and soaking did seem to work. I skipped cleanser all together except on his diaper area and face. Use lotion a lot! We did have prescription cream and it cleared up the eczema quickly, but I didn't like using it on him. Not to say that allergies can't cause eczema, but I think sometimes eczema and other skin problems just run in families. Good luck!

Looks like you have a lot of advice already. My daughter has the same thing, and as some of the other moms mentioned eczema is caused by an allergen. For my daughter it is chocolate. It took forever to figure it out, but when she is chocolate free, her eczema is barely there. Also, we use the prescription cream by Fougera- called Triamcinolone Acetonide Cream USP 0.5 % and benedryl if the itching is really bad. My other daughter has less severe eczema and Desitin does the trick. Keeping them hydrated is key too. So sorry you and he have to deal with this!

My son's dermatologist recommended a lotion called Cerave. We get it at Walgreens. It's a very light lotion, so it wasn't as greasy as Eucerin (which didn't work for him). When his spots were really bad, I applied to 2-3 times a day. They also make a body wash, but we just used Dove Sensitive Skin to wash him when he did get a bath. He hasn't had a break out in 18 months. I use the same products on my 17 month old who also suffers with eczema. One other thing to consider is what laundry detergent do you use? I can only use 1 certain brand because all 3 kids and DH break out from anything else (it took me 4 months to change from the powder to liquid to avoid problems for all!).

My daughter's was so bad her skin was starting to flake and crack. Dr. prescribed a mild steriod first, and then a hydro/cort mixture to use daily, as required. Some say to bathe frequently, and we did bath her everyday, but we didn't necessarily apply soap everyday (just to diaper area). Plus, our whole house went "green". we got rid of all harsh chemicals and changed to environmentally friendly cleaners. I also changed her bed sheets to organic cotton, or soft flannel type ones. Aveeno oatmeal bath once a week was really good too if she seemed to be scratching. We keep this strict routine and by the time she was 2, it was gone. It has not returned.

My niece had a really bad case of eczema, where her hands and feet would literally crack and bleed. Plus she had really bad skin allergies that didn't allow us to use lotions with perfume in them. The Dr. tried a couple different medicines that were just so-so. One day the Dr. suggested that we use the old fashion remedies and said to rub on a little dab of (original) Crisco - believe it or not it actually worked the best. Good Luck.

Hi hon, not sure where you are but i used Dermaveen Oatmeal Oil and a moisturiser called MSM Udder Cream from www.moogoo.com.au. Also have cortisone for when it gets bad. Wil's face was cracked, weeping, infected and broken for months on end. The paed prescribed a stronger cortisone (and i know its not a long term thing ) but i only put it on his face 3 times and it was healed. Like completely. Now its been clear for 6 weeks and ive prob used it 6 times since then. He had been on cortisone previously for 7mths. If you want anymore ideas msg me. Ive had to try a crap load of products coz he is allergic to so much. Good luck. I felt terrible for Wil. Id cry to see him itching all the time an we had to tape mittens on him to stop him bleeding.

Have you tried Eucerin? My little one (2 1/2) has a prescriptin for Eucerin (a compound - it is mixed w/something else) and it has worked wonders. I found that the over the counter hydrocortisone and lotions weren't working. You can buy Eucerin at Target, etc. Not sure if it will help w/out the other ingredient. The key is to keep the skin hydrated. Immediately after bathing it is best to apply the lotion. Then apply a couple more times a day. You may even want to avoid bathing for a day or so.
