I know of someone who is committing food stamp fraud, they receive child support (alot a month ) and saying they both dont have a job. I think its wrong of what they are doing, they are somewhat of friends of friends and I feel like people like that will get caught? They just keep lying and the amount is well over 1k a month in food stamps I dont know what to do.

I guess I will stay out of it, its not to hurt them its doing whats right.

Some insight please of what to do!

How do you know they are saying they don't have a job? Did they tell you that themselves?

I'd rat them out LOL! Seriously, it's people like that that screw things up for those who truly need it.

I don't see any harm in making a call and getting an investigation started. It can be anonymous. What are these children being taught by their parents acting in this manner? Last thing we need is a generation of freeloaders and more criminals on our hands. Welfare is one of the biggest problems in America today and if we all turn a blind eye to certain issues then we cannot complain about the state of the nation and how poor our own situations are, now can we?!?!? CHANGE starts with US!!!!
Just my 2 cents!!

Well unless you have actual documentation and feel like opening a can of worms, I suppose you could call child welfare services and report a false food stamps claim. But in the grand scheme of things, how does a possible investigation benefit, or harm the children involved? Ask yourself how much you know about these people and their circumstances that allowed them to qualify for government assistanc einthe first place? Let's just say an investigation was pursued and found that yes, they were guilty of defrauding the government....then what? It's possible that these people would obviously have to reimburse the state. It's possible they may be seen as unfit parents and have their kids removed. It's possible that this action of defrauding the government leads to other illegal crimes that adds to a more serious legal issue. So while you may have storng gut instincts and suspicions about illegal food stamp activity, you could simply turn a blind eye. You could try to reach out to these people and engage in a conversation about the long-term versus short term benefits of food stamps. (Those who need it short-term versus those who take advantage as a lifestyle) Or you can simply do what is best for the kids involved. Good luck!

I'm surprised that the county giving out the benefit hasn't asked for documentation...in Wisconsin you have to give a copy of your tax return on the initial claim. Personally, I would because it drives me nuts when people abuse the system.

In our state the Division of Family Resources actually can track Child Support within their system - it is automatically updated through the state.
We used to get nearly 1200/mo - with 6 kids! It went down bc my DHs income went up. We pay about 1/2 the month out of pocket for food, and our food bill really is about 1200/month!
But, to not report income is a crime when it comes to these programs that are there for assistance. I am sure that our FS amount could change once my DHs pay is taken into an average in a few months. It could go up or down... I am not sure. It just depends for us bc it changes!

Yes you do have to report ALL INCOME in your household if they are saying they dont receive CS then its fraud are they kids in danger? are these kids being abused or neglected?

I do not think that you have to claim child support as income. I am not sure thought.
