When I had my second child the nurse in the hospital suggested a book called Healthy Sleep Habits Healthy Child. I cant remember the author but if you are interested I will find it. It was the greatest book in the world for me. A bit dull at first but it has some great advice and some great techniques. I since have three children under the age of three and my schedule is the only thing that keeps me going. My schedule is my sanity. Every once in a while we have an off day but for the most part they are on a great schedule. One nap a day from 1-3 and the go to bed at 7 and wake up at 7. It is great.

every child is different. my daughter was content sticking to MY scheduale...my son however had his own. at first i tried getting him to nap and eat at certain times but he just wasn't hungry or tired so then i let him pick the time. now that he's 8 months old though i'm slowly getting him back on my scheduale. and for the last week it's working pretty good. he goes to bed anywhere from 7-9pm. and will wake 3 hours later for a change and a bottle but then he will sleep till 8am. then nap tim is 2 hours after he wakes and i've stopped rocking him i just put him in the crib and let him fall asleep by himself. i still have to rock him at night time though. when he gets up lunch, then play time then around 2:30 or 3 his 2nd nap. when he gets up from that one we have dinner then more play time then bath, bottle and bed.

Babies need two naps a day...depending on how much your child needs (of sleep) will determine when you set your schedule... I usually let my children set their own schedule for naps during the day. Eventually one emerges. My nine month old began a go to bed at 9, get up at 7, take a nap at 10:30 for an hour plus, and another one at 3 for almost 2 hours. Of course, when they are teething...that gets messed up a little as well. It's best to stick as close to this as possible for the "norm." When out-of-the-ordinary arises then it won't hit too hard. You'll want to stick with it for your own sanity!

Have fun figuring it out for you and your little one.
