Hi, I have a 1 year old daughter whom is incredibly independent and likes to play by herself. We get on the floor and attempt to play with her but she goes off on her own. Is this normal and if so how do we deal with it?

Yes it's normal for them to not play with anyone until they are like 4. Just let her play alone.

It's normal. Kids that age are easily distracted and exploring. My daughter is 17 months, and I pretty much just let her do what she wants when she plays, which is what I did with my son also. Our "playing" is her chasing us, or the other way around, or just tickling her, making goofy faces, or whatever. When I had my son I tried to do all sorts of things with him, bought him toys we could play with together, and he really had no interest! He might sit and look for a couple of minutes, but that was about it. He'd rather go off on his own and play with the kitchen spoons! My son started wanting more interactive play after he turned 3, and now that he is 5 he wants me to do EVERYTHING with him! Just wait for it...it will come :-) Don't put so much pressure on yourself. :-)

She goes with her father on the weekends and plays with about 6 other kids

sometimes its normal for kids to try to do things themselves so they master their experiences but also make sure she doesnt have autism... does she play with other kids?
