I'm fairly new to the area I live in and I'm far from my family and friends. How do I find other SAHMs that are in my area. I'd like to possibly set up play dates or hang out with other SAHMs that I can relate to and possible even get advice from.....since I'm here all day with my 4 month old, I don't have the opportunity to meet other moms. We go to the gym where there's a daycare but nobody wants to talk when you're working out! Any ideas?

I am a member of MOMS Club. You can search their website to see if there is a group near you.

Also, try meetup.com I was with a meetup group before finding MOMS Club.

Luckily, there were several teachers at my school who were pregnant at the same time as me. However, we do live in a very small county in FL, so there is no Mommy and Me or Gymboree. Our library does have a Mother Goose time that I've found very helpful. I would check with them.

There is also a group called MOMS Club, you can check out the website to see if there is a chapter in your area. You may have to send an email to the coordinator, as not all chapters are listed or have their own websites. The goal of the group is for SAHM or part-time working moms to get together and have playdates for the kids too.http://www.momsclub.org/links.html
This club was a real lifesaver when I moved to Connecticut and didn't know anyone in the area.

There's a website www.meetup.com where you can look for playgroups in your area. You can even look for groups that have similar interests as you (scrapbooking, cooking, etc.) anything you like. If you live in or near a decent size city you will have better luck finding something. I actually joined a playgroup that started on this site. Unfortunately for us, the moderator of that playgroup moved back to California and no one was willing to step up and continue the group. I live in a relatively small city so our group was really small. Most of us still keep in touch via email, etc. Anyway, that's a suggestion.

Look for a local MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) group.  They are all over the country and a great way to connect with other moms.  They have a website that probably helps locate local groups.

I don't know about America but we have something called playgroup. Its an organised meet of mums and children to play. When my first was born the local child and youth health centre (government run) organised a mothers group and I have made some great friends through there. I have also recently joined a childrens music session as well. Just join as many groups or play sessions you can find!

I take a mommy and me yoga class at the rec center in my neighborhood. (I live in Portland, OR.) Slowly I've become friends with some of the other moms. Even if there's not a mommy and me yoga class, but if there is a rec center, maybe they have an infant playtime or some other thing you could go to. Also, some libraries have special story time for tiny babies, called lap time or something similar. You could maybe meet other moms there. Good luck!!!!! Also, someone told me about playgroupsusa.com where you can look for playgroups in your area. I've looked at the site, but haven't used it to find a group near me yet, so can't vouch for what you'll find. :)

I've met the best SAHMs at church when we've moved to a totally new area. If you can find the right kind of church, they are great! Also, when the weather is nice I'll take my daughter to the park, and there are almost always one or two other moms there. Sometimes many. Especially with a 4-month-old, you'll probably get moms approaching you because everyone loves a new baby. :) One last idea is to look for a MOPS group. They are great.

It is hard to move to a new place. Hope you find some great people there!

I'm trying to figure out the same thing. I have almost eight month old twins, boy and girl.  Where are you from?
