My daughter is almost 9 months old and has a great appetite. Unfortunately, she refuses to eat ANY fruits, rice cereal, oatmeal and very limited amount of veggies (favorite is squash and mac n cheese). I have 2 other daughters who ate anything. Not sure how to deal with a picky eater. Is this something that she may out grow or does anyone have any suggestions? Want to make sure she is getting a well balanced diet. Thank you

maybe her bottom teeth are cutting? get a food net and put an ice cube in it or wet a face cloth twist it in the middle and throw it in the freezer for a few hours, then let her gnaw on it and see if she'll eat after that.

You can alternate by giving a spoon full of what she likes, then a spoonful of what she doesn't like. And I sometimes found that if I scape it off the spoon onto her upper gums she had no choice but to eat it or (spit it out )lol. If it's soft foods, you can give her the real thing and see if she likes it. You will probably be able to tell what she can handle. My kids have had ice cream, and soft foods ect... starting as early as 6 months. But do be alert of choking. We had a local family who had 7 kids. The mother gave her 4 yr. old daughter whole grapes and she choked on one. Even the doctors couldn't get it out in time because of the type of skin. The little girl died. Choking does happen even if you think your child is old enough. The doctors said grapes are a high choking hazard and one of the most dangerouse. They should be cut in half at least so they are easier to remove if lodged.

I would just keep trying all the foods with her. My son at 9 1/2 months refused to eat baby food period. And we had to start mashing up the food we at and fed it to him. He liked to feed himself to starting at that age. Like cheerios and green beans and stuff that was easy to chew.

I have tried making my own, letting her feed herself, baby food, almost everything. She is just going to be a picky eater. I figure she is VERY healthy and as long as she is getting what she needs I will just continue to introduce new foods to her. Thank you for all the help!

My daughter was very picky. I made my own babyfood and she enjoyed that alot more than the jarred stuff. Don't know if you've tried sweet potatoe but that was a favourite for my fussy eater.

@Sarh Snarski- I give her purees because she wasn't ready for chunky food. I tried and she started choking. Everyone is different she is 9 months old and finally just cut a tooth.

She is teething. I tried "regular" food but she started choking so that is why I have stuck with baby food. Every child is different. She just cut her first tooth and the second is coming through as well. So maybe it will be easier for her now. I will just keep introducing foods as her doctor said it might take up to 20 times before she actually likes a new food. Thank you for all the help nice to hear how other mothers handle their picky eaters...

My son hated jarred baby food but LOVES Ellas kitchen organic baby food pouches, GoGo squeeze applesauce, and buddy fruit pouches they all have a cap on the top where he can suck them straight from the pouch.

Has she shown interest in eat what you are eating? let her sit beside you and take bites from your plate. She doesn't really need pureed foods at her age.

My daughter never liked baby foods. At 9 months her Ped told me to cut down on nursing her so she'd eat but the only thing she really liked to eat was yogurt. I just started her on regular foods, just broken up little so she didn't have to chew. She still is a picky eater. Never really ate or eats too many veggies or fruit. She is starting to get a little better at trying things now. My son ate everything that at like 3 stopped eating ALL fruits and veggies, so you never know how they will eat when they get older.

Oh and I have never cut up any of Cade's food, and he has never choked on it. The one thing he has sort of choked on was cheerios.

Why are you trying to give her purees? Give her what the family eats!! My son has been eating food food since 5ms old when he started to refuse baby food. He got his first 2 teeth at 6ms and has since eaten any and just about everything we have. I just avoid sweets, processed foods and highly seasoned foods. He wont eat fresh fruit... I think it is the way it feels in his hand and the texture.
No need to worry about a well balanced diet at 9ms old as the majority of her nutrients should still be coming from her formula or breast milk.
