I have a 2month old boy. I'm 19 and was very used to sleeping in until noon-ish. I was worried that I wouldnt get enough sleep when I had my son. I was extremely surprised to find out that I was sleeping 7-8 hours when I brought my son home from the hospital. He sleeps through the night so well. I'm truly a lucky duck

This might sound strange but I think my internal clock is just set about between 6.45 and 7am. I go to bed about 12 midnight because my kid only sleeps at about 9.45pm-10pm and I need that wind-down/relaxation time for myself before hitting the sack. I can't seem to put him down any earlier. He wakes up at 7.45am and can last till 2.30pm which means he only naps at 2.30pm. He wakes up at about 4.30pm sometimes 5pm. So it's difficult for him to sleep any earlier than 9.30pm. I've tried sleeping earlier than 12 mn but I end up waking up earlier too...like 6am! I'm SO not a morning person so even now, I laze around in bed when my eyes pop open at 6.45am or 7am. I lie around till I hear Aidan calling for me :)

it depends on the kids, the house work, and much more, somenights I get 8 hours some nights i get 6 or 2 and others none. try and nap when your children do, its the best advice even most doctors would give. hope the sleeping rpoutine improves soon mommys need their rest :)

I have a strange schedule, my husband gets home late, and my kids wake up early, plus I co-sleep with a 9mo old. So I get to bed around 1030pm (10 would be more to my liking) and I wake up several times throughout the night, then I get up around 6am when my 3 yr old announces she has to go pee, in MY bathroom....so its about 7 hours total. my ideal sleep time is 8 hours.

About 9 hours. My 2 1/2 year old is a wonderful sleeper, but we'll see about baby No. 2, due in a month. I'm saving up my sleep now.

Usually 5 to 6 hrs, and that's if I'm REALLY exhausted. I have a 10 year old and a 6 month old, who thankfully both started sleeping through the night at about a month old. Occasionally my infant has restless nights, but he he teething (again) and during growth spurts his legs ache. Thank God for Humphrey's and tylenol! I got used to very little sleep (I was lucky if I got 3-4 hrs) during nursing school and never have been able to sleep longer than that after graduation. Also, my hubby is a state employee in law enforcement, and he goes 10-7 at 0430, so I'm usually up with him at 0400. You get used to it....

I'm a stay at home as well with a 3 year old and a 4.5 month old who is nursing so I get woke up alot but total I'd say it's about 7 give or take. If I'm lucky and both girls take a nap at the same time I can sometimes lay down for 45 min or so i nthe afternoon.

my baby is 7months, and still only goes for 4 hours at night. So he goes to bed at 8h30pm, wakes at 12h30am, then again at 3h30am and then at 6h30am up for the day. so all together I get about 7hours, but broken up into 3 slots..... i'm a walking ZOMBIE

My son sleeps about 10 hours a night. My husband and I stay up about an hour or so after he goes to bed so that we can have us time. I sleep the additional 8 hours broken up. Mostly because my son sleeps in our room. (in his own crib) and I wake up every time he tosses and turns, and then I have my hubby snoring on the other side of me :) Its ok though cause I take a nap with my son during the day if I need it. I guess thats the luxury of having only one kid right now!

Hmmm...some night I am up until 2 am and usually wake up the next day by 7 am. I'm so not a morning person so I'm lucky I get to lie in bed until about 8am after the kids leave for school (my hubby is fabulous and takes them almost every day!). Other nights I am in bed by 11...it just depends! So, I would guess on average 6-7 hours sleep!

Sleep how I long for it. I am lucky if I have 4-5 hrs sleep thats broken sleep by the way. I don't know how I function some days. I have a daughter who will be 3 yr next week and a 6mth old son still breastfeeding. Oh I almost forgot the husband who works night shift. Hopefully that explains it. I dream of 8 hrs sleep. When I get it I'll let you know.

It drives me nuts when people are telling me to go to sleep...have a nap, I've tried over and over again but it's like my mind cannot stop. The kids go to school, son's in grade 8 and my daughter is in half day SK, I have stuff to get done; not sleep. Unfortunately, LOL

with my 6 yo and my 3 yo I'd say 6 hours, but never in a row because my youngest still wakes up at least 2 times during the night. Also I go to bed late (I work at home)

To be honest, and i know i will probably be hated by a lot of people for this, i am the only mum i know of that can sleep until midday if i want to. I know it sounds impossible, but my daughters dad works graveyard shifts and when he finishes work in the morning, he usually does everything she needs. To me, its an advantage that i get to sleep in, and also for them to spend some daddy/daughter time without mum hovering around. Usually i will get around 8-10hours depending on whether i get to bed at 2am coz ive stupidly sat up watching tv, but this has only been as she has gotten older and doesnt need me during the night for feeds anymore.

My daughter is 12 months and has slept through the night since 8 weeks. It must be in the genes because I need a lot of sleep. I aim to be in bed 10:30pm at the latest. My daughter is up at 7am ish but my husband gets her up and nappy changed and wakes me at 7:30am so I can take her before he goes to work. And I still complain! So I get 9 hours ish. I couldn't cope on less than 8 hours long term. I'd be a zombie and VERY grumpy.

It depends on my 4yr. olds sleeping pattern. we found out he has a little bit of sleep apnea and barely sleeps anyway. others times I to have trouble sleeping. So maybe an average of 3 - 5 hrs.sleep give or take

My 6 month old sleeps from 7-7 with only one feeding which my boyfriend does :) so i could sleep 12 hours if i wanted... but its more important to have some couple time then "me" time when my boys are asleep. Id say i sleep about 7 hours a night on average.

I definitely don't get the hours I crave. It's my own fault for not going to bed earlier. I tend to stay up too late during that "mommy time" when everyone else is in bed. I guess I get about 7 hours on a good night. It's broken up hours so it's more like 6.

3-4 hours a night! My 5 year old daughter still wakes up at 3 am but with bad dreams now. I usually help my husband with work until 11pm and him and I get up for him to go to work at 5:30am. I have very long days but I can truly day that I love it. Not everyday but every other day. LOL

I have two young babies too. One is 4 and one is 2. Now,since she,the 4yr. old is in school, I get about 6 or 7. Before she started school, we slept longer. We were night owls and slept late and got about 8 or 9 sometimes 10. The babies get more than my 6 or 7 now. They go to bed earlier than me. They get around 9 or 10.

I recently updated myself on sleep research for a presentation that I gave on the subject of "A Good Night's Rest" for a large conference of lawyers seeking continuing education credits. The vast majority of people, including moms, need 7.5 hours of sleep to function at our best. Chronic sleep deprivation is a major factor in increased risk of a wide range of physical and mental difficulties and illnesses that may show up later, like diabetes and heart disease. If you don't get the sleep at night, take a nap. Make sleep a priority, Moms! I wrote about it on my blog at pennie.wordpress.com. Would you like to know natural approaches to sleep? Ask me!
