I was 18 and a senior in high school when I had my first child. I am now 33, have 3 children and married to the father of all three of my kids. I can tell you that we had to grow up a lot real fast because our daughter was born 3 months premature. It isn't easy, but just remember how much you love that little one. And don't ever think that it was a mistake.

I had my son when i was 15 and my daughter when i was 19. But i also graduated High shool when i was 15. And went to college for a while after. And my husband (there father) is also very suportive and has always been there for us. If i had to give advice to young girls i would tell them to wait and enjoy just being young. I love having my kids but my husband and i also missed out on alot. No prom, no hanging out, and while people were at football games we were working and raising our son.

I was 18 the first time I got pregnant. Then 19. I only have one child thou. She is now 8 and I am 28. I lost a lot of my 20's but I wouldn't trade it for the world. My daughter was well worth it! Makes you grow up a lot quicker than most...but isn't a bad thing :)

My sister just had her son placed with her. The birth mother (who gave birth at age 20) started this blog. http://diaryofabirthmom.blogspot.com/
Obviously she is a big supporter of adoption, but she also works closely with mothers who have chosen to raise their babies. Only you can know what is best for your child. God bless!

I would also like to add that just because I am a young mother, doesn't mean I didn't finish everything I had planned for my life. Sure, I did get my ged, instead of my high school diploma. I started college on the fifth and still take care of my son full time, while attending college full time also. It's a wonderful journey and I don't regret him and I wouldn't have waited a few more years to have him. Yes, it is extremely difficult, but so worth it. I don't even remember my life before him, it's almost like he has always been there.

That is one of the reasons I am happy that I had my son so young. He will remember my mother, she is the greatest person I know and I couldn't imagine her not knowing my children or them not knowing her.

Hi,
I was preggo w/ my 7 year old son when I was 17, he was born when I was 18. I was preggo w/ my 6 year old daughter 6 months later and had her 3 months before my 19th b-day. My 4 year old son was born 2 months before I turned 22, and my youngest son 2 months before I turned 25.
And for everyone who is mad at Lea, I don't see anything wrong w/ her post. She is not bashing anyone. She is just saying she enjoyed NOT being a teen-mom. That is all. Can we be mad at her for that? If anyone has read the end, she COMMENDS us for doing what is best and not KILLING our children! She obviously has morals about sex and murder. While I would never ever want to change the past out of the love for my children, I would definatly want to marry first! My morals have definatly changed. Non of us are good people. It was wrong of me to steal that 1st time from my husband (who has adopted my older kids) and many other times from him. I am ashamed. But he helped me, gave me reason to lift my head again. And all the praise goes to My God! who has sent this man into my life. I did not mean for this to be so long.
Also, yes, having a baby at ANY age can be hard.
(p.s. for a long long long time, it was common for women to have babies shortly after puberty!! Crazy? well how do you think families could get so big before a woman hits menopause??! Just food for thought)
thanks ya'll for reading, and thank you LEA

there are a lot of young mums around. i was 17 when i had my first and she is almost 19 now. i went on to have 3 other children. and one of my daughters friends had her baby at 15. it is hard but it can be done and i am glad i had my kids early on as i can relate to them now. all 4 of my children have manners and are not on drugs or anything bad like that, so there are positive role models out there

I got pregnant three months before I turned sixteen. My mom helped me out alot, but I took responsability for my daughter. I did pretty well, if I do say so myself! lol I have four kids now, with my oldest being fifteen herself. I can't imagine her having a baby right now. She just got her first kiss not long ago.

I was 16 when I had my first child I am now 25 and my husband and I have 4 children. I grew up fast but I can say I was maturer than some adults that I kenw. To me your age does not to much matter it is all about how you take on your responsibility. My husband and I have been together ever since our first and that was is big help. At times it was hard but together we got through it. My children are my life and I don't know what I would do without them.

I was 18 when I became pregnant, and 19 by the time she was born. I had to leave the college I was at, and since then have been attending community college. I will have my associates degree before all of my colleagues will have their bachelors. After the associates I'm going for my bachelors. Anything is possible, you just need determination to make it possible.

I'm not a teen mom. I had my daughter at 23. I just wanted to comment on Lea. I partially understand where she is coming from. I know teen mothers, two of my oldest and closest friends are teen mothers. Lea is just commenting on how hard it is. I saw from my friends how hard it is. She is not saying you shouldn't have done it or anything. I always wanted children. I used to think "Oh babies are so cute and fun I can't wait to have one." I love my daughter more than anything else, but I wish I had a more realistic idea of how hard it is. I think its great that all of you made it work. I am amazed at those of you who are planning/have second kids before you are 21. For me I was layed off from my job at 5 months my husband has a steady job and we both have college degrees and we are struggling to make ends meet. We have a one bedroom apt (then again we live in an expensive area). So many of you are doing better than me. But I agree that everyone should enjoy being young. I loved my college years in the dorm and I am happy I did not have kids and was able to experience that. But I understand maybe some of you were just ready to begin life. Many of my friends do not have kids and think that I'm too young to have a baby. But I have a teenage sister and I would never want her to be a teenage mother because like any older sibling or parent, I want better for my sister and my daughter than what I had for me. I don't think that's wrong, My mother was a teenage mother and she was adamant that my sister and I not follow her. I think that is what Lea is getting at. I think we should glorify teen mothers who have made it, but also glorify those who wait. Its hard and there are some young teenagers out there who get pregnant because they just think babies are so cute and have this view of what its going to be like and are rudely awaken to the reality.
As for abortion. I HATE this whole thought that its wrong. Its a choice. Same way someone chooses to have a child at 15, someone can choose not too. Its all about what's best for you.

I must be the youngest teen mom here. I had me first son at age 15. And my second at 16. I am now 30 years old, and they are now teenagers.I think being a teen mom make you be a better mom because you know what they are going through and you prevent them from making the same mistakes you made.
