how to meet new people when you move ?

i hear ya too lived here for a year and still have very few friends i am a SAHM too and i get involved in the school alot. they love that i'm available and its a great place to meet people cause you know you have kids in common in the same school. if your costantly busy with a baby at home then try your local church that might have a daycare situation it will get you involved in a great thing and meet great people and maybe even time away from the SAHM thing. good luck

Go caroling around your new neighborhood. Introduce yourselves and pass out candy canes to the neighbors. It's hard to meet new people in general, but it's especially hard this time of year. Everyone bunkers down for the winter. Good luck.

I feel your pain. My husband is in the Navy and we have moved three times this year! Now we are at Purdue in Indiana. It really stinks because 75% of the population in this town is either college students or people working for the university. I am a SAHM and find very few other Moms in general in town. I don't like the idea of meeting people to have play dates with on the internet. I had meet a few people when it was warm out just walking around my neighborhood. I meet two different neighbors and have become good friends with them. I think it helps that I bring over fresh baked goods every few days. Now, I have meet some of their friends and don't feel so alone.

meetup.com is free and you can join a local moms group and then attend their playdates and activites. I've met a lot of nice people on there.

Being from a small town, I understand that there are very few places to meet someone... (growing up, we had one stop light...) In my town, the best place to find people with the same interests is Wally World. Lol... as funny as that might sound, if you just shop around the childrens department for a bit, you'll run into someone else with a child. Simply ask them if there are any groups, or communities in that town. She might have alot of suggestions!! Or may even be kind enough to take you into her group of friends... As long as you are friendly and outgoing, that should be no trouble... just be in places where others are, and you'll do just fine. :)

Hi, we moved when I was 32 weeks pregnant. I joined a new parents group when my son was 5 weeks old. Now we go to a mothers group, and baby rhyme time (at the library) as well as play dates with the friends we made at the group. Going there saved me. Try mother/play groups in you area, or the local libary or community centre for activities for your kids or if they are school ages ask their friends parents over for coffee.

Be neighbourly. Say hello... give someone a compliment.. ask them a question. You would be surprised who you meet just being neighbourly during your every day errands. Remember if you are closed off no one is going to want to meet you.

wow i know how you feel except i live in cali originally from wi a small down. being in a big city its so hard to meet new people. i know this sounds bad but i'd try craigslist you can meet a lot of great people on there.

Could you start a play group? Does your town have a newspaper to advertise in? You could place an add and meet at a local park. I have a friend that recently did that and it is going great. Also, I don't know if you are religious, but I've made some of my best friends at church.

Oh darlin' I hear ya!

You might want to try the internet. There is actually a very large mom community on twitter. You can chat with moms all over the country and also look for moms in your area. Lot's of moms make friends on twitter, and then eventually schedule "meet ups".

I know, sounds like online dating, right??

Sarah I know how you feel I am a SAHM who also works from home. Try looking into momsklikeme.com and choose the state you live in I have meet alot of wonderful moms on there that live within 20 miles of me and we do play dates I hope that helps
