I'm a new SAHM and need some tips for staying motivated and organized.

I left a corporate job recently. My kiddos are 12 and 5, and both in school. My daughter's kindergarten is a full day 7:45-2:45. So, I'm finding a lot of time on my hands and initially I was really motivated to do housework and such, but now I'm lacking motivation. Like most of you, I have a biz and will default to spending time doing passive things related to it, as well as passive home things like shopping for birthday presents, looking up coupons, paying bills online, etc. Before I know it, I'm still in my pj's and it's time to pick up my daughter.

Afternoons are nicely busy because there's homework to help with, chores for the kids to do (which means I have to set a good example and do at least something), and dinner to make. The days just seem to be wasted - I don't have a boss lording over me anymore, so maybe part of me feels entitled to some veg time.

Even when I am motivated to get things done, I find myself distracted by some other immediate task constantly and never finish anything!

Would you please share your tips on how to stay organized, manage time better, and be more productive?

You are funny with your PJ story. I am like that too. First of all, Thank You for quiting your job to stay home. It is more than enough to keep you busy, even when the kids are in school. I believe in staying home with the kids. They need us to be there for them, even more when they are teenagers. I feel the same way about housework and no motivation. I actually get motivated by going out for an hour or two before I start. I will got to the grocery store or in the yard or anywhere but home. I put the T.V. on or the radio to feel connected to outside world then I get started. You need to be proud of yourself for making the sacriific to stay home. Everyday is not the same. We all have our ups and downs. I keep a calender and write all my kids activities on it. I feel that if they are fed and they do their homework and they go to bed at a decent time...I did my job! Good Luck to You

I try to get my morning routine done as soon as I get up, (make beds, empty dishwasher, straighten bathrooms and rest of house) then I feel like I've accomplished something. That usually motivates me to do something more. I have used flylady.net in the past, and that is a great motivator. if you have a favorite hobby you could tell yourself you could do that AFTER you get some cleaning done. Good luck! Some days I'm not motivated at all, but I love the way it makes feel when I get something accomplished!
