My daughter is 10 months. On August 12, she got a diarrhea which lead to a very bad diaper rash. Since then it hasn't gone away and it only seems like it's getting worse. I went to the emergency room once and they gave me Econazole Nitrate Cream. A couple of days later I took her to her pediatrician then they gave me Hydrocortisone Ointment and Econazole Nitrate Cream. Along with ibuprofen. Ibuprofen helps a lot at night because her bottom will be inflamed. I also been using shortening as a barrier. Shortening in the past has helped with her previous diaper rashes. I really need some advice! I hate to see my daughter in so much pain..

I would skip the shortening. A barrier like Aquaphor or will help prevent her skin from further breakdown. Leaving her bottom open to air as much as possible will help as well.

I know you will be feeling quite bad but she will recover. Meanwhile, you could change the brand of diaper she is using and avoid using wipes, for now, just use water.
Apply the ointment recommended at the hospital and with time she will recover.

Yes i agree vasiline or petroleum jelly. I know you said she had diarrhea but try changing her brand of nappies.. also hydrocortisone worked all the time with mine. Always keep it dry. And fror the time being if you normally use baby wipe. Try water wipes or cotton wool with water.

As in vegetable oil? Are you serious? You should use petroleum jelly or Vasilene not oil.
