My daughter is 3 1/2 , she seems to do fine when we go out, she even can go all day in panties if we are running errands. But at home and at the sitters she cannot stay dry and clean, even when I ask her periodically to go to the potty. I've tried bribes, nothing seems to work. Help!!!

I am sorta potty training my 2 1/2 yr old too. My daughter was in daycare up til about 3 months ago and she saw all the older kids using the potty and became interested in sitting on it at age 2. I never pushed her, just if she asked to use it. Then when daycare said she was using the potty 90% of the time and refused at home I tried M & M's. I wish I never would have started that because now she sits on the potty just to get the treat and gets very upset with herself is she doesn't actually have to go. Now that she is home full time I have tried other things. She refuses to wear big girl undies even like over her diaper. I tried letting her go naked for the day and she just finds a nice place on the carpet to go. I am now using a sticker chart that she really likes when she does go but it doesn't motivate her to go use the potty. She will go before nap and bedtime 100% of the time but no other time. And I'm lucky because she always poops just before bedtime. I have used both the ask her to go and she refuses and the tell her to go and she refuses. So basically at this point I just let her do what she wants hoping her control issues will turn to her wanting to be in control of being dry!

You know i think it is even different from girl to girl I have two girls and my eldest was trained in one week and it was rare to have acciedents in her panties and she never pooped in her panites but I have now started to train my youngest she is 23 months and she is the complete opposite! She refuses to poop on the potty sometimes it is even a battle just to get her on the potty. I have tried the little potties and the big one it doesn't matter so I don't think girls are any easier to train it depends on the readiness of the child.

Unfortunately for us, our kids develop their own agendas very early . . . I'm sure you've thought of this, but does she get absorbed in something at home or the sitters and forget/refuse to go? Maybe she needs reminders - a timer set for 30 - 45 minutes. When it goes off, she has to try the potty. One outcome (besides staying dry) is that she'll get annoyed about having to go so frequently & she'll just start going on her own. I've potty "trained" two girls & the only accidents they ever had were at home!
