I would like to work from home to be home with my daughter and for future babies. Does anyone have any ideas on what I should do?

I wanted to do the same and so I switched careers. I have advanced degrees in counseling/psychology but it takes too much time away from my babies. I'm now working on another degree in graphic design, a hobby I've had since high school. My advice would be to find something that you enjoy doing, and try to make your own little business out of it. Etsy.com is a great place to sell any crafty services or art that you do. As with any business, you have to let other know you're out there, you know? I've heard of a lot of ladies selling things on eBay or Amazon. I created a little desig company and with it, I'm a Heritage Makers consultant. I know a lot of people who do photography or Real Estate and are HM consultants as well. They kind of feed off one another and double profits because it helps with marketing and sales (can create awesome PR stuff). It's pretty cool if you love to scrapbook or make invitations, photo books, cookbooks, greeting cards, etc. It got a lot of publicity through Oprah and Good Morning America. I do it to make Christmas gifts, lol. You can see my sites for ideas: http://www.heritagemakers.com/379880 , http://www.love-original.com , http://www.loveoriginal.etsy.com . Oh, and some moms do child care at home. Depending on your state, you can have a few kids in your home per supervising adult. Just really think about what YOU want to do, and go for it!!

I agree research is your best bet, and I'd love to send you proof of the awards we've received. We give a full presentation (you wouldn't have to leave your home---done on your own computer) so you could hear everything, see the proof, ask the questions you want to and make the decisions for yourself.

I guarantee you 90% of these responses are full of it. They've done reports on CNN about "work from home" companies and about 99% of them are fake or scamming you. The best advice I've read is to start a little daycare. It's legit and it makes good money and you can stay home. You just need to be able to handle watching more than just your own kids.

I have a great home business in which I don't have to sell or have parties or keep inventory, and the web sites and training is free. I love helping others do the same!

Hi Kristen!
If you are serious about working from home let me know. I first ask that you have a idea of what you will and will not do. I also want to share with you the difference between a work at home JOB and a work from home business. Now most people want to work from home(it's ideal) However finding a company is perrty intresting and when you have found a company, It's true you get to pick your work schedule which is usally a three to four hour block.(now if you can keep your kids quite for that long give some of us other moms some pointer LoL) These companies don't want the peple calling in to know that you are in fact working from home. No to metion ONLY getting paid $7-$8 an hour.

Now let me share with you a home based business and what it consists of. A home business gives YOU the FREEDOM to set your own schedule. People know that we are working from home as they are trying to do the same(ofcourse) So your not sticking your kids in daycare or in a room some where to try to keep them quite(AS if that would ever happen). You also don't need any special degrees etc, It's not corporate America there's no one standing over your shoulder and telling you your ONLY worth this amont an hour. Anyone from any alk of life can be successful as long as they are deligete and consitent.If you can see yourself being commited to 2- 4yrs while building financial freedom for your family, And not wanting to have some one else around for your kids firsts(walk,crawl,teeth,crissis etc..) And educating others that they don't have to work for someone else for 40 hours a week for 40yrs Of their life without the garuntee of being able to retire. THERE IS A BETTER WAY.

Let me know if your intrested!

The National Graduate Preparatory Program (GradPrep.org) is seeking several dynamic, results-oriented Academic/Corporate Marketing Liaisons for our new organization.

Are you an energetic and highly motivated self-starter? Are you talented in establishing and nurturing business relationships?

About The National Graduate Preparatory Program (GradPrep):

The National Graduate Preparatory Program (GradPrep) is the national graduate study prep program and fellowship for those seeking higher education to evoke positive change worldwide. This faith-based, national program is supported and led by Deans, Faculty, Administrators, Business Executives and Social Entrepreneurs worldwide.

We have a 3-pronged mission for our members:

• For prospectives to successfully prepare for graduate school through our programs and utilize their degrees to become positive change agents.

• For current students and alumni graduates to network and explore career opportunities at our events, serve as mentors to our prospectives, and become positive change agents as leaders within their communities.

• For Graduate Schools and Corporations to utilize the organization as a means to promote their institutions, recruit quality talent, design innovative curricula, and learn dynamic recruiting and retention methods.

Our Academic/Corporate Marketing Liaisons will possess the necessary skills to galvanize memberships from U.S. Graduate Schools and Companies through sales copy, telephone contact, and personal campus/office visits.

Your objectives would include:

* Developing an authentic, dynamic telephone approach that "opens the door"

* Designing a high quality sales copy that produces desired results

* Visiting colleges and corporations, either in person or by phone, to build relationships and gain memberships

* Achieving weekly goals for new memberships

Colleges and corporations have 2 different options for membership with The National Graduate Preparatory Program (GradPrep). Depending upon which program you enroll them in, as an Academic/Corporate Marketing Liaison, you will receive either $200 or $500 for each school or corporate membership you sign on for us.

For example, within 1 University, there may be 5 'colleges'. If each of those colleges signed the lower tier membership, you would receive $200 for each membership = $1,000. And that is only within 1 University! In the same example, if those 5 colleges chose the higher tier membership, you would receive $500 for each membership = $2,500! Your financial possibilities are endless!

We are looking for an individual with the following skills:

* Excellent communication skills

* Positive, dynamic, and natural personality

* Self-motivation with a "can-do" attitude

* Enjoys accountability and producing results

* Personal confidence, yet maintains a humble, authentic "sales pitch"

* A sales pitch that doesn't sound like a typical "sales pitch"; should be trusting and conversational in tone

* Excellent time management skills

Our Academic/Corporate Marketing Liaisons will be able to work from home. You have the option to obtain client memberships by using effective sales copy, emails, and phone calls, and we also recommend visiting the colleges/corporations in your area. You must have excellent verbal and written English skills. You must feel comfortable within collegiate and corporate environments. We need someone who can embrace the challenge of a start-up organization. We will begin this role as a Summer project, approximately 10-25 hours per week, ending in September. However, if you are successful, this will lead to an ongoing contract with us.

If you are interested in applying for our Academic/Corporate Marketing Liaison role, please submit a cover letter and resume, no later than Friday, May 15, 2009 to contactus@gradprep.org.

We look forward to hearing from you!

You can try what I do...virtual assistant / administration. My employer is in a totally different city than I am, and I do the invoicing, web site databases, newsletters, desktop publishing, etc. If you have a computer, printer and smartly, a long distance plan for your phone, you don't need anything else. You don't need to join any company or group, you get to set your own pace, hourly rate, and schedule. You can decide how much work you want to take on, and how much you want to advertise your services.

This is a really good idea. You can also look into things like medical billing/transcription - you can work from home doing that as well. Most companies in medical billing/transcription do want some experience or want you to have taken a course to train to do it though, so it would depend on whether you could afford to pay the tuition or get it funded.

I'm taking a course in medical transcription, and had it funded by employment insurance because I'm asthmatic and my doctor suggested I find a different field of work than what I was in. The course is through Canscribe (in Canada) or CareerStep (in the US), and I've found it to be really in-depth. I'll be done before August, and they have a "practicum" that you can do at the end that gives you real work experience if you want to have that before you apply for the actual jobs.

Hi Kristen !

And I understand with everything else how hard it is looking for legit work at home. I have been a stay at home mom for about 7 yrs and I too started out looking for a work at home job. I found several differnt site some that wanted you to pay for their job boards, And some I did just that. Only to find out I would be making 7 to 8 dollars an hour (on top of trying to keep a 3 yr old and 4yr old quite for 3 to 4 hours) Of course these companies don't want the people calling to know that you are infact at home.

So I then started to take a different approach, I started looking into work at home business. I too not a sell person at all. Found tons of information and business out there. What I did in decideing was to make a list of thing I would do and a list of things that I would never do. That's when I found this great company. It has truly been a God sent. Now if you are serious about working from home I would get my list statred. And go for it Also listen to this call this business has truly changed or family( and still changing) I would like you to give me a honest opion of what you think even if you think this is not for you. 1-800-514-1258

Thanks in advance,

The first thing I advise you doing..your homework on any company. I was given sound advice when I was in your shoes. Go to GoDaddy.com first, type in the website. From there you will be able to get all the information of the company you are interested in. Then go to the BBB.org website. You will be able to find out if that company is legit and how many complaints it has against it. I work for a company called Scentsy. If you are interested send me an e-mail at veronicabb00@live.com or you can visit my website at: http://www.scentsy.com/veronicabeebe
Take care and have a good one =)

Hi Kristen,

  I am a consultant for Homemade Gourmet.  We sell mixes for dips, casseroles, breads, drinks and even microwave steamer bag meals.  When I decided to stay home and work for a direct sales company I wanted soemthing that everyone could afford.  In our current catalog, the highest item only costs $6.75 (except for the collections).  During this economy we are all looking for ways to save money.  We offer meal options for less that the cost of ordering a pizza, plus everyone needs to eat so why not Homemade Gourmet?  It costs $39 to join which includes all your business supplies (order forms, catalogs, etc.).  Also, we have a promo this month...if you join during February you can also get all  the new items from the Spring catalog for free ($100 value).  It's a great company with excellent product, great customer service, excellent compensation plan and a good mission.  Let me know if I can help or if you have any other questions and Good Luck!

Hey, I run a small side business creating Scrapbooks for people who don't have the time. I was a graphic designer / art director before I had the kids. Its a lot of fun and its a great investment in your family. My sisters were 9 and 10 years older than me so when I came along, the camera was out less, plus they just developed the film and I'm 33! It really gives your kids a sense of where they came from and that you loved them. I don't know who's in your area, but its so worth preserving the memories for not just your kids, but future generations!

What about keeping a few other kids in your home while you are at home with yours.  That way your work doesn't take you away from your kids.  Plus it allows for some playtime with other children for your kids.  It is hard work, but you can make probably up to $30 per child per day.  All while giving a child a loving place while their mom (or dad) is away at work.

Hi Kristen! I've just joined a work-from home business and I work mine at home in Sydney and it's fantastic! It's in the health&wellness industry. The company is US-based, started in 1980, came to Australia in 1983, operates in 70 countries worldwide and will be opening in Lebanon, Egypt & Dhubai this year! That means that you can do business in all those countries that the company operates in! I made AU$580 extra in my first 3weeks in owning my business, which is really great since I've got a full-time job & I work my business around my family! One of the things I love about the business is we've got a good team that support us, step-by-step, until we're comfortable enough to do it on our own because it can be daunting & nerve-wracking starting your own business! You don't need a lot of money to set it up, so it's really great for people who are on a tight budget! If you're interested, you can email me at forlife.consulting@yahoo.com.au and I'll be happy to help you as you research the business and I can send you a free information booklet, if you want. Talk to you soon!

I just joined with a new company called Dove Chocolate Discoveries. they do in home tasting parties for CHOCOLATE!! (who doesn't love chocolate?) it's easy to sell. The start up kit was $150 and i've made that back in my first two parties. I put in a little more for table deco and extra products so i'm hoping to make that back in the next two parties as well and then I'll be above board! It's a new company so nobody has heard of it and everybody is excited to have one or at least look and see what we have! If you join and then recruit more people under you (just like any other direct selling thing) then you make money off of them too. I'm hoping to grow enough to quit my job and stay home with my kids full time--that's the dream! I have a website

www.dove-chocolate-discoveries.com/samistadi and email samistadi@hotmail.com Check it out and email me if you have any questions. I'll give you as much info as you need to make a decision and take a step forward towards your future!! (one of the woman above me told me that 80% if the women that make over 6 figures in this country are in direct sales. that has really stuck with me and made me think about this long term) Hope I've helped!!

Hi Kristen, about a year ago I wanted to stay home and be with my kids more. I was tired of working for someone else. I also wanted to show my kids the fun and wonderful areas all over the world. In my husbands and mine search we found a company called YTB. With a low sign up cost (less than $500, and only $49.00 monthly maintained fee) you can own your own online travel booking site. This site is just like (or in my opinion better than) orbits or expedia. It is fully functional, and you have staff support for customer service. So basically you tell people about your site they book their flights, hotels, car rentals, cruises and much more through you site and you get 60% of the commission. There are also so many other travel benefits and education that comes with this company. It helps me feel confident in selling and promoting this company. Truly, though it's not a hard sale, most people really enjoy traveling and would love to hear about good deals. I know that direct sales and networking isn't for everyone. If you interested take a look that the following website. If it's not what you’re looking for I understands, and hopefully you find something that will work for you. In these economic times it's hard to fell safe at any job. That's why I want to own my own business then nobody else can fire me, but me.

http://www.traveltime.webs.com/ if you go to this web site I have more details as well as videos regarding this company.

I love the idea of staying at home. Being in the travel industry, works for me. I know you have several options available to you.

If you have any more questions I would love to explain more to you, you may email me at mel_mom_of.3@hotmail.com, or call me at 208-638-5557, or just register on my web site and let me know. Thanks have a great day.

Hi, i have 3 kids and also wanted some extra cash so i started selling TUPPERWARE, so easy, the stuff sells itself. Free training, ongoing support, no outlay. You choose when you want parties so you can do evening or weekends, or you can even take your daughter with you. Honestly i made around $200 per party, which is around 3hrs work. We just moved from Sydney to Bundaberg and i cant wait to start selling again. Give it a go, you have nothing to lose.

hi kristen!  in my opinion, direct sales is the way to go.  you can more than likely bring your daughter with you to your parties, and if she's old enough, she maybe can even help you.

if you are looking for a fun idea, let me suggest something kid oriented - i am an independent crew member for Noah's Ark Animal Workshop, a traveling make-your-own-stuffed-animal company.  i choose to do workshops and parties when i want.  it is a lot of fun, and i can bring my kids with me if need be.
