Has anyone had any Anemia problems while pregnant? If so what symptoms did you have? How did you find out you had it? Did you have bad morning sickness before finding out you were anemic?

Yikes. I'm really sorry to hear that Joan. I hope and pray they are able to find something out soon about the bleeding. It is quiet possible that the fatigue could be from being anemic tho.

wow, this is very interesting. I was never told I was anemic when i was pregnant but soon after birth I came down with severe chronic fatigue. That was 6 yrs ago. Three weeks ago I was told I was severely anemic t othe point of needing a blood transfusion. They now say im bleeding internally. Im just wondering if thats what my chronic fatigue is all about. Problem is....they cant find where i am bleeding. hmmm

Thank you all for your responses. I went for my doctor appointment today and told her I was showing signs of anemia ( dizzy spells, extreme fatigue, weak feeling, inability to sleep, headaches...etc) They did my bloodwork today so I should find out pretty soon.
Santana, It's not so much the morning sickness iteself that can cause a problem, it's the inability to keep anything down that can produce the problem. Unfortunately I've had a really hard time with being sick(to the point of vomiting) almost every day so it's been a little rough to be able to eat the foods high in iron that I should eat or even to take my prenatal because they make me sicker. I was told today tho that if you have a hard time taking prenatals duering pregnancy that you can take 2 kids vitamins a day, that way you still get the vitamins your body needs but in smaller doses so you arent as likely to get sick :)

I have always had anemia. When I got pregnant it got worse. You can usually just feel that something isnt quite right. You'll probably be tired all the time, really pale, feel weak sometimes, feel lightheaded or dizzy, among other things.
I dont think morning sickness is linked with anemia, but I could be wrong. I had morning sickness with both my boys. With my first it was all day, every day up until about 10 months and with my second it only lasted during the first trimester.
As the others have said though, your doctor would tell you that you were anemic based on the results of your glucose tolerance test. If you havent had it yet, be patient, you will probably have one soon. :)

I was anemic even before getting pregnant. I had to take a prescription iron supplement (my body couldn't absorb what was OTC) until my levels were normal again and then during my period. When I got pregnant I took a prenatal vitamin with added iron. I didn't have a problem after that (but I took my pills religiously). The biggest symptom for me (and I always knew when my iron was getting low) was extreme fatigue and unexplained bruising on my legs. With my second pregnancy I was slightly anemic before I started taking my prenatal vitamins but my levels are normal again! The only time I've felt nauseous so far with this pregnancy was when I was cooking with Basil... I don't think that's linked to anemia though! LOL

I did with both of my pregnancies - I found out via routine bloodwork around 21 weeks. I was VERY tired but an iron supplement really increased my energy level Foods rich in iron are a good idea too. I had to continue the supplements after my first was born, which is not uncommon for women who have had c-sections (I had two).

I was anemic while pregnant and put on supplements. I only found out through routine bloodwork. I had a little nausea in the mornings but never actually threw up through my entire pregnancy.

I was anemic during pregnancy, but I didn't have bad morning sickness or any symptoms. The doc discovered it during some routine blood work and put me on an iron supplement.

I am always anemic so I think it was just worse while pregnant. I had morning sickness with both of my pregnancies up until around 4 or 5 months in. When you go for your blood work during pregnancy it will show up then if you are. Symptoms are usually headaches, dizziness, and lightheadedness and you usually have to eat more often.
