Is it normal to have orange stools after just starting carrots?

[deleted account] ( 11 moms have responded )

I just started my 5 1/2 mo old girl on solids and she has a milk/soy allergy which resulted in blood in her stool. It since cleared up when I put her on special formula. Much to my concern, I want to make sure the orange tint I see is in fact from the carrots and not blood. Sometimes it's hard to tell.

I'm waiting to hear back from the doctor just to be safe.

I understand your concern, but I'm sure it's just the carrots.

When it comes to poop, there are two things to be really concerned about : white (colorless) poop and bloody (or really, really black) poop. Otherwise, anything else is in the range of normal. As you feed her more solids, you're going to see an array of interesting colors come out the other end.

Sometimes it is VERY hard to tell! It is from the carrots. My son's urine turns a orangish color and often looked redish, freaked me out!! Very normal. When she starts more food of ours like corn and grapes, our bodies do not process the skins so don't worry if you see those skins in her diapers it's normal.

LOL...you will see all kinds of things before she is potty trained. In this case, I am 99.9% sure that the orange tint is from the carrots. Don't be shocked if you see green after peas and green beans too.

On a related note...when my son was about 18 months or so, he wanted to eat everything we ate, and for the most part, we let him. One day I changed his diaper and it looked really odd. It looked like ti was made up of tons of tiny poops stuck together and was light colored. I started freaking out for a minute until I realized that he had been eating sunflower seeds with my husband, and 90% of his poop was sunflower seeds!!

yes it is very normal! any food they eat for awhile their poop is going to be the same color. green if they eat green beans or peas, orange if they eat carrots and sweet potatoes, and so on and so on. nothing to worry about.

Yes normal, I used to be able to tell what my daughter had eaten and in what order she'd eaten it! I know TMI, but you asked about poop :)

I heard that once you start on different solids, your baby's poo might be a rainbow of colors haha. It's been awhile, but I think I do remember my son's poo being orange after starting carrots/sweet potatoes.

My boys poop was kind of orange when they were babies and started on carrots.
