Is my 18 month old to young for a toddler bed?

This is all really helpful! My son is about to turn 19 months and still cannot sleep through the night in his crib. He does, however, sleep like a baby (couldn't think of any other way to say it) when in our bed. Though we love having him with us, we'd still like him to be able to fall back asleep and be comfortable on his own. We are also expecting baby number two so we have been throwing around the idea of getting him a toddler bed. Maybe that really is just what he needs to help him sleep through the night in his own bed.

We'll see what happens!

My 2 1/2 yr old son hated his cot and would only sleep in my bed up untill he was 18 months old.That's when my husband and i had had enough of being kicked out of our own bed.So we got him a big boys bed and that's where he has slept since.I intend to do the same with my 10 month old when he is old enough, even though he loves his cot, the earlier the transition the better.

Oh cool!  I'm glad to have read these.  My son was 20 months when we put him into his toddler bed and our daughter it now 19 months and we were going to get a loft bed for my son's birthday and pass his bed to her.  So she's not too young at all!!  I couldn't remember what happened with Logan when we first put him in the bed...hope she transitions as well as everyone else's little ones did!!

Thanks everyone for your reply's we bought him his own bed and he LOVES it, everyone is sleeping much better, and not more fights at bedtime. YEAH!

god go no hes not to young!! lol, im little girl has been in her bed since she was 10 months old and she loves it!! shes nearly 2 and she loves going to bed and she sleeps all night from 7-7 dont even wake up! do it, it will be worth it!

Yes - go for it. My oldest was in a bed at 17 months and the second at 18 months. The youngest stayed in the crib the longest, 19 months and it worked out great every time. Good Luck!!

Go for it!  My son disliked a crib from early on.  We bought him a full size bed and we have all been happy ever since.  Good luck!

Nope!! I put my oldest daughter in a toddler bed at 15 months.... she only got out once and never again, lol. It really all depends on how well your child listens to your instruction... it may take a few reminders and stern warnings at first but it is nice when they get it.... Good luck!

My son was in his crib until he was 2 1/2. I think he would have stayed longer if I let him. I do think all kids are different though. I don't think 18 months is too young. If the crib isn't working for him anymore, try the bed. Just make sure it has sides.

I don't think he is too young.  If you think he is ready for a toddler bed go for it!  And if he is getting out of his crib, I would definanlty go to a toddler bed.  All kids are different; so if you think he is at the point were he need to go to the toddler bed then that is what you do!!  I have some friends that had their babies in the toddler bed before 18 months.  My daughter never tried to climb out of her bed, and she loves her bed; so we didn't change hers (she has the one that goes from crib to toddler bed to full size bed) until 2 when she was potty trained.  I wanted her to be able to get up and potty if he had to!  We will see how my son does!!

But I say....go get your son a 'big boy' bed!!!  Exciting!

No your 18 month old is not too young for a toddler bed. I moved my 2 kids from a crib to a big bed at 18 months and it worked wonderfuly !! They were happy and slept great through the night. Seems like he may be ready too. I think you should try it. Good Luck, i don't think you will be disappointed : )
