I have a 6 month old daughter, and i get her to fall asleep around 9 or so and i put her n her bed, she sleeps for about half an hour. Has a little cat nap and she stays up until 11 until she falls asleep...my husband tried letting her cry herself to sleep but didnt last long, and he picked her up.

Has anyone had success with letting them cry until they pass out?

My son is 5 months old and I have tried to let him cry himself to sleep, but it doesn't work. It just makes it worse cause he ends up so upset that he spits up (then I have to clean that all up) and he will cry even harder after that. I have let him cry up to 45 min. comforting him every 15 by rubbing his head, but never picking him up.

I have a couple of friends that do that but i havent seen/heard any real improvement. Dr.Sears is a good one for answers onletting them cryit out. Askdrsears.com! I dont follow everything he stands for but he has alot of good ideas.

no!! I have 4 girls ages 8,6,4,2. All of them are so stubborn that an hour later they would still be screamming/gagging and so upset that they stayed up later! The youngest one somehow managed to get herself into our bed and now sleeps there. It's tough expecially when you are tired! I think it all depends on the personality of your child if the crying it out will work.

I had great success with both my kids that way when they were babies because my partner absolutely refused to let me go to them the first few days.  If they cried for 10 minutes then one of us would go up and stroke their faces to calm them down and talk gently to them till they calmed down.  Never pick them up again or it wont work.

I think it took about 2 weeks but each night they cried less and less.  It is much harder on you than on them I felt terrible doing it.
