Veronica ~ I know you have alot of information to pour through here but I absolutely LOVE the company I am a part of and believe in it 100%. I am a Tastefully Simple consultant. We are a gourmet food direct sales company. All of our products are either open and use or add 1 or 2 ingredients only. Because we offer food, we have a wonderful re-order base of clients....once they've used it up and love it, they call to order more!! Recent reports have shown that on average Direct sales businesses were down 18% in 2008, however, Tastefully Simple sales were up 4%!! What is great about our products if EVERYONE EATS!! I know there are so many options out there for working from home.  However, most of those options involve working for a company...not working for yourself.  And as we all know, many of those are schemes, they are not legitimate businesses.  Or, it involves huge startup costs, selling something, or cold calling, etc.  If you are looking for something that is purely YOUR business where you can work at your own pace, your own hours, etc, have you ever thought about becoming an internet marketer?  (It's also called affiliate marketing) No, you don't need to be a computer whiz or know everything about technical design to become one.  In case you aren't familiar with it, here's a high level overview:

1. As an Internet marketer it is your job to send people (create traffic) to company websites.

2. When those people make purchases you are paid from the company who owns the product. There are literally 100,000's of companies online who are willing to pay you up to 90% of the entire product sale price just for sending people to their site.

3.  Each pay period you will receive a check in the mail that you take to your bank and deposit (or cash). Some companies will pay you directly to your Paypal account, or even directly to your bank account via wire transfer.

Making money on the Internet is not a get rich overnight scheme. If it were that easy everyone would be doing it.  So, what it comes down to is you have to learn the proper internet marketing techniques in order to succeed. If you are willing to put in the time to learn, this can be a VERY profitable business.  I did ALOT of searches on this topic and finally found a website that can teach you the techniques you need.  It's called Wealthy Affiliate.  They give you step by step instruction on how to get started as well as have continuous online support through forums, email etc. You have to sign up as a member of the site, and there is small monthly fee ($39) to continue your membership.  HOWEVER, because they provide so much for you on the site for free, such as free web hosting, a free web site builder, etc, that is really the only amount you have to pay...you won't need to come up with "start-up money" for your business. And, it's not like you have to continue membership with them permanently, you could always sign up for 2-3 months, learn what you need to learn, then cancel your membership, there is nothing contractual.  At least the Wealthy Affiliate site can teach you what you need in order to maintain your own internet marketing site.

I've been using their site, and have learned a ton of valuable information from it.  And I don't have a computer science background either.  Just to clarify, you do NOT have to sell anything…nor do you have to ‘recruit anyone underneath you’ to make a profit.  Your primary purpose is to drive traffic to vendor sites.  The Wealthy Affiliate site is merely a platform to teach you how.  Hopefully this information helps you or at the very least, gives you another idea to look into.  Please don't hesitate to contact me with ANY questions you may have.

I am a consultant for Scentsy, which are wickless candles. I got one for Christmas from my mother-in-law and absolutely LOVE it ! All you have to do is plug it in and let the wax melt with the help of a lightbulb - no matches, no lighters ! They have tons of scents to chose from and so many different warmers. They even have some for the holidays ! They also have ones that you can plug into your wall outlets.



Some other info that I know you will love is that Scentsy Warmers melt wax at a lower temperature so there is never any danger of burning children or pets.



You can set up a website for the first three 3 months for free...that way people can order directly from your website. You can also do parties, which have great incentives for the people hosting the party.

There are many scams out there, but also some very good legitimate companies It's all about finding what is going to fit with your life and family. Again, I can't thank you enough. Its great to know that there are people like you out there that are so willing to help a novice like me. I am doing so much research that my eyes are going buggy...lol It so worth it, my family and I will be going through a major change in a year and a half and I want to be prepared. And it's okay, because, I learned a valuable lesson. Look before you leap. I ALWAYS investigate a business venture before getting involved. I am also a stay at home mom! My kids are 10, 6 and 5. I am a Mary Kay consultant, as well as a distributor for Slumber Parties. Most people hae heard of Mary Kay, it has been around for a long time and is a very great company that allows income and flexability to create your own schedule. Slumber Parties is similar, but offers bedroom accessories. Both companies are great as ar as the flexability. I find Slumber Parties is better as far as the income potential, but both are great business opprutunities. I am also a stay at home Mommy.  I love it too.  My kids are 7 and 2.  My 7 year old is involved with lots of extra activities which I'm thankful for but they require a lot of running and extra expenses.  I am a Mary Kay Consultant.  This provides us extra income each day/each week/each month, it's great because my success is up to me.  If I need money fast I can generate that income immediately.  My advice is to really check out what you are getting into when you are doing searches online, check their validity.  If you want me to send you information or call you let me know.....jwhitsel@marykay.com.........ENJOY YOUR DAY!  I'm sure it's a lot warmer there than it is here in PA!!

You are wise in being leary of the online scammers. But there ARE legitimate jobs online. You just have to find them.

I'm not sure where you are located, but here are some guidelines for you:
(I am in the USA)

1. You should never have to pay someone for you to work for them.
(ever applied for a job and been told, "Well, you have to pay us $200 for us to hire you?" Don't think so:)

2. If an opportunity sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

3. When you find something you are interested in, do your homework. Here's how:
A. Any legit online business should have a physical address on their website, not a Post Office box, but where they are actually located, state, and zip code, along with other contact info, such as email address, telephone numbers, etc. In the US, the FTC requires this information to be FTC compliant.

** First visit http://www.godaddy.com and enter the website address, like you are searching for a domain name. (you just have to enter the website name - example: godaddy - no www and don't include the .com) Your return info will say that domain name is not available. There will be a link that says "Click here for info". Click on that and it will pull up a WHOIS report. This report tells you WHO owns the website (more info for you on that business). Will explain in a moment why to do this step.

B. Once you have this info, visit http://www.bbb.org This is the official Better Business Bureau website. You can enter the zip code of the company, and find the local office that serves the said business area. Then enter the info for the company and see if there are any complaints. Use any additional info (ie-names, DBA, etc) in your searches also. Write down the info.

C. If what you find is positive (ie-no complaints or a few complaints that were resolved quickly, then investigate further.

D. Locate the local District Attorneys office for the area that the business resides in. Call them and inquire about the business. Give them any info you find in the WHOIS report. By contacting the DA's office, you can find out if there are any files in regards to the company.

In a nutshell, use every resource available to you in your research.

This may sound like a lot of work, but if it keeps you from getting involved with scammers, it is time well spent.
