With my being due in April, my husband and I are looking at moving our daughter (now 19 months) to her big girl bed in the next 6 months. Any ideas or thoughts on how to prepare her (and US!) for this transistion?

We put our daughter into a transitional bed from crib at age 2, she was ok with it, got her her own new sheets, that she picked out, and she still sleeps in the same crib mattress, but just now the front is exposed for her independence...this has been a couple months now and she sometimes gets out of her room at night and cuddles up with me...but I have heard of even putting a child gate in front of the door to keep them in...
Good Luck!

Hi Stephanie,

I just had my daughter in September, and her  brother is 15 months older than her. Walker (my son) stayed in the crib until my daughter was three months old, becasue she slept in our room alot....but then we wanted her in her own room. All it took was one slightly rough night. I set up the toddler bed, layed him down, and closed his door. I had to lay him back down a few times, and he did cry, but he did fall asleep and he has been sleeping in it ever since. I have four kids and this has worked for all of them. They all cried the first night, but were good from then on. It's hard, but totally doable. Good Luck :)

When my 2nd DD arrived my oldest was 23 months and still in her crib. She did not want to move out of it! It was alright because the little one stayed in the cradle for awhile. I tried to get my oldest into a toddler bed but she wouldn't stay asleep and would get up in the night wanting to get back in the crib. We had to finally take the crib down for awhile and included her in the process so she new that the toddler bed was her new bed and the crib was put away. She got many thanks for helping with the big job of putting the crib away! She got some new sheets for her new bed and she did fine! The transistion was a little rough until we included her in the taking down and putting away process. Hopefully your LO will adapt well to the change before you have to put the crib back up for the new baby! Best of luck to you!
