My middle child was almost 16 months old before she started walking.

When I took the baby in for her 15 month check up the doc suggested going

to physical therapy. I wasn't too worried since I had late walkers, but now I'm

concerned since the doctor brought that up the other day. Any other late walkers

out there?

I disagree with the don't worry approach.  I didn't worry and My son didn't walk until he was 17 or 18 months.  I didn't worry cause he walked, but when he got into school we found out that although he seemed perfectly normal, he had significant delays.  He had mild balance issues, needed eye therapy for a tracking problem that effected reading,  had difficulty with writing and he needed Occupational therapy, and continued speech therapy which we had started at age 4.  He is now 9 and is a normal healthy child, but the struggles he has had in school are related.  I had no idea any of these things were a problem until the middle of 1st grade when he was fully tested to find out what was going on.  He had used a special pencil in preK and Kindergarden, but I was told that he would outgrow the shaking when he wrote and that it was ok at his age.  Until we moved into a new school district that did more testing, we were ignorant of his needs.  He is now in third grade and all of the therapy is over.  He still struggles but is doing well overall.  So having said all of this, don't panic, but early intervention really helps and I wish I would have known what I know now.  Hindsight.

Late walking is perfectly normal. Unfortunatly I had early walkers which was a pain in the butt. MY nephew didn't walk until he was 15 months and he was barely crawling at the time too. He just didn't want to go anyway. One day he stood up and went. IT was really weird but kind of awsome how doctors said there had to be something wrong with him and there wasn't, he just didn't feel like doing it! Don't worry about it, they will walk when they want!

No,  I'm not related to the Miceli's in Kansas that I know of.  Dh is from New York.  I wish you luck with your baby.  I am sure she will be fine.  No matter what......... all of our kids are blessings and we do our best to help them succeed and be the best that they can be.  :)  My Danny is very athletic and he competes with the other boys his age just fine.  He is very good at soccer, but isn't as good and riding a bike.  All is well.

I think your doctor is making you worry for no reason.  It is normal for a baby to not walk until they are 18 months old.  Our doctor made us very aware of this.  Our daughter didn't walk until 19 months and the doctor wasn't worried.  When she did walk she went straight to running and hasn't slowed down since.

I appreciate those responses. I was thinking along the same as she will come around at her own pace. However, thank you Stephanie for bring the other concerns that could be assoicated with it.  All of her other motor /verbal skills are on track. I think I will follow the doctors orders and have her checked out further.  We are scheduled in two weeks. I will try not to worry and hopefully it will be good news or she will walk before that!  Stephanie, are you related to Miceli's in Kansas City?

My son wasnt walking at his first birthday, nor three months after that. But on Mothers day he desided that he was going to walk to mommy from the couch to the kitchen. I wasn't worried. Kids are different. I've learned that you cant push them. They will do it on their own. Children do the darnest things. Dont worry about it. Doctors dont know a lot of things. Just remember that children are different. she might have not been ready for it.
