I know this is an old post but my son has acid refex so I had to also hold him up after each feeding so now he can't self sooth. His naps are also 30 mins 3 times a day. He is 7 months old. Any luck on self soothing help?

my daughter cut down on her naps at that age for some reason...I just went with the afternoon nap after lunch and she would sleep a good 3 hours.

we are down to 30 min only and i just can't live this way! The nurses told me to give him a blanket or a lovey, pat him, talk to him, tell him its nap time and don't rock him. He will never sleep if i don't hold him a little or don't rock him. I know I hold him to long, but he had acid reflux and the docs told me to hold him up for 15 -20 min after he eats. So, i'm trying to get him to self sooth, but its just a lost cause. it takes me longer to get him to sleep then he actually sleeps.

my 7 month old son wakes at about 7am and goes to bed at around 6 pm. quite often he will only have 1 nap during the middle of the day for about 2 and a half hours which is great for him. besides that he has 3 half hour naps spread out through the day and this seems to suit him fine?!

My daughter never lengthened her naps until a couple of weeks ago.(She is almost 9 months.) Before then, it was three half hour naps a day. No matter what I did, this was how she napped. She started sleeping longer in the afternoon on her own. And, slowly, we are up to almost 1 1/2 hours now. The AM nap is still just 30-45 min. I hope to keep that one that way and hopefully the afternoon will stretch to two hours soon!! I'm sure your child will start to sleep longer soon. They all go at their own schedule. (I've learned this from my three children) :)

Maybe you are trying to keep him up for too long? I usually go with about 1 1/2 hours to 2 hours between naps. When I was trying to go longer that was when she was refusing to nap.

I just feel like there must be something wrong with him if he can't nap. He's tired all the time. I keep him up for at least 3 hrs before he naps, change him and then he usually eats. I just don't know what to do anymore. My daughter was a good napper and my son't just completely diff.
thanks for the help!

I was having this problem with my 6 1/2 month old just a couple of weeks ago. I started to keep her really active for about 1/2 hour to 45 minutes before her naps and I make sure that she has a clean diaper and some milk in her belly before nap time and now she will nap for 1 1/2 hours to 2 hours. Sometimes I will even get a 3 hour nap out of her.
