I have a one year old and 20 weeks pregnant with my 2nd baby. The first baby, after pushing with no pain meds (because they turned my epidural off) for 2 1/2 hrs I had to have a c-section, the Dr. Said my pelvis was to small for him to come out but he was only 7lbs 10ounces and before I got pregnant I weighed 112lbs so I'm not that big but I'm really thinking about Trying to have a VBAC and they say 2nd babys are usually bigger, but the dr is talking about scheduling the c-section but he said its still my choice in the end.... Some family that was in the room with my first are saying just do the c-section and my husban says to just do the c-section because we can just schedule it and go in and there will be no waiting and all that.. but I breast-fed and plan on doing it agin, and when we got the baby home at night, when it was time to feed I would have to wake my husband up to even help me out of the bed because the cut hurt so bad and I couldn't hardly take care of myself and I had a baby to care for ....... any advice????

At the OBGYN I go to there are three Dr.s in the office and throughout the pregnancy you see all of them and then when you go into labor witch ever Dr. Is working that night delivers and the Dr. That delivers mine is the one I prayed would be there!!!!
He was my favorite of the three and he also delivered me... So I know he has had plenty of practice and knows what he is doing. But I have not seen him yet with this pregnancy to really talk about what happened with the first but one of the other Dr.s said he had written down in the notes, the reason for c-section was because of my pelvis, but when I go back for other appointments and see the other 2 Dr.s I will ask their opinions as well

I had a repeat c-section. With my daughter I was like you, I couldn't get out of bed without help for weeks. With my son however, I was up and walking within 8 hours. I was sore, but it was nothing like it was with my daughter.

At the same time, in your case, it sounds a bit like your doctor was just wanting your first to come with his schedule. If your pelvis was really not going to allow the baby to pass, they should have seen that prior to you being in L&D.

I would find a new doctor and get a second opinion. Even my OB who couldn't do a VBAC due to her practice, told me that she'd refer me to a doctor who could.

My mom had to have 3 c-sections also but my sister delivered hers natural with no problem. My husband weight 10lbs and one of his brother weighed 12lbs (not sure about the others.) and I was 3 weeks early and had one that was 7.10lbs so that makes me a little nervous, but I'm so glad all of you have shared your story's and I know every woman has a different experience, I just wanted to hear other point of views because the people in my family who have been telling me to just do the c-section had their kids natural and didn't experience what I did with the c-section. I think there is an equal (plus & minus) to both decisions in my case. At least I still have 17/19 weeks to think about it.

Sounds similar to me. I had my first via unplanned c-section due to no progression, I wouldn't dilate past 4 cms, I was a scheduled induction after going to 42 weeks. My son's head was also tilted at and awkward angle and wouldn't descend into the birth canal. They never discussed why I had trouble delivering at the time but I know my mom has a tilted uterus and had to have her 3 children via c-section. It's either that or I just have a narrow pelvis ( I do have rather narrow hips and am petite).

My OBGYN left it up to me to decide whether or not to have a VBAC or scheduled c-section. I asked her what her opinion was on it and she said we could just wind up in the same situation as last time with an unplanned c-section but the VBAC was still worth a shot. So that's what I went for. Some doctors will try to push a c-section on you, simply because it's more convenient for them, so don't feel pressured. As long as there are no extenuating risks to you or the baby, the decision is ultimately yours to make.

I had to be induced a second time after going to 42 weeks again. I was progressing very nicely this time, got to 9.5 cm and was stuck in a catch-22 of the baby pushing down against my cervix causing it to swell. My nurse said it was likely due to having a narrow pelvis. So they took me off the epidural (prepping for a spinal) and I was stuck in that position for about 4 hours. Funny, because I actually enjoyed it even though it was uncomfortable with my daughter pushing down and the contractions but at least I got to experience those moments before they give you the green light to start pushing. I made it much further than my first time around. I am proud of that. The c-section then went off without a hitch.

I would think that what I took away from it was; at least I'm not left guessing if I could have delivered naturally with my second or not. And who knows, you just might. I personally feel it's worth a try and if I could go back and do it again, I still would make the same decision to attempt a VBAC.

Oh, and my children were both almost the exact same size (even though my OBGYN guessed they would be large). My first was 7.12 lbs (21 in) and my daughter was 7.11 lbs (20 in).

Best of luck to you in your decision.
