Poop training

My son turned 3 in Nov. He is potty trained but he will not poop on the potty. He is totally conditioned to poop at nap time because we put a diaper on at nap. I really don't want to clean up poop in underware at nap. I also don't want him to become constipated. Any suggestions?

sounds like my son. He would poop at naptime, i finally just said screw it and put the underwear on, and low and behold he came upstairs yelling Poop Poop. so i rushed him to the potty and he went. When he did we made a HUGE deal about it. He got to flush the potty and spray the air freshener spray (he is obsessed with it so i knew he would enjoy this and THATS what got him poop trained) and he also got a piece of candy. But i swear it was mainly the spray he liked so much, so we do that everytime now, LOL (kids are so simple)

Thank you! Its always nice to know someone else has "been there" AND gotten through it.

My son did EXACTLY the same thing. I can laugh about it now, but at the time it was very frustrating. It took about 5 months for him to finally do it, one day he just did it (we were on vacation) and that's all it took. What kind of potty are you using? It helped for our son to be able to brace himself like he did when he was pooping in the pullups. You can use a little potty where they can put their feet on the floor or use the big toilet with an adapter seat and teach them to put their feet up on it or on a stool. I always wanted to yell at him for pooping in the pullups, but the best thing was to encourage him. We even kept a present (something small from the Target $ aisle) in a bag on the top of the toilet, he could have it when he pooped in the potty. Then when he started doing it consistantly, he got one after a week of pooping in the potty, etc... Eventually he just forgot about the presents and pooped on there anyway :) Good Luck!

he may try to hold it, my daughter tried that.      Finally she just had to go, and now she goes but she always waits until the last minute.       Some kids are like that.   Feed him lots of oatmeal, and other high in fiber foods, and it should make the poop come out fine even if he tries to hold it

I'm worried that he'll just start to "hold" it and get constipated. I guess your right I'll just have to try it. thanks!

I would also try keeping him in underwear for naptime. Maybe put him on the potty right before nap time and give him a special treat if he poops in the potty... then allow him to keep his underwear on.

Try putting him in the underwear and see what he does.

at worst you may have to clean out a few underwears, but I honestly dont know of anyone who has not had to do that during potty trainning.
