Potty training a boy!

Thanks! for all the responces. They give me hope. I am so terrified for some reason that it's just going to be a big anxiety attack waiting to happen. I potty trained my little girl with no problem... The boys are just harder I think. I will try what I can and will keep you updated!

Ha ha. thats hiliarious. Thanks for the info. My biggest thing is.. do I start him sitting down or standing up? Most people say sitting down first.. but I'd just like to get him to aim so I dn't have to worry about that in the future either.

My son just turned 2 and is fully potty trained I will tell you suckers work wonders I gave him a dum dum everytime he peed or pooped on the potty and eventually he'd run in there and push something out just to get a sucker. also the poop issue if you sit him backward on the toilet his legs will be spread too far apart and he will not be able to hold it in my son was scared to poop but when I did this he had no choice then it came easy to him

you can make it into a game put a couple of cheerios in the totel as a taget. and reward him when he gets done, I also took my son to the bath room when I went and made him go when he got up in the morings, from nap and before bed time as well as reminding him to go every couple of hours

sometimes my husband and sn peeinthe toilet together to race to see who gets done first... its hysterical and might help...

Hi Crystal, I feel your pain. I have 2 boys and a baby boy. They were very difficult to potty train. One piece of advice a girlfriend gave me was priceless. "They will do it when they're ready." My oldest wasn't potty trained until 3.4 yrs and my 2nd son didn't potty train until 3.1 yrs. old. Don't freak out, it is completely normal. The point system didn't work for me. When I was fed up and couldn't handle anymore, I put them in underwear, not pull-ups, and had them stay home. I made them sit on the toilet every hour and a half to try and go potty. It took me about 3 straight days of this, and then they were trained forever. I am glad I did it the way I did because they have never wet the bed. I believe pull-ups are the same thing as diapers, so I neve purchased them. Stick them in underwear and turn the diaper into the bad guy. Tell them diapers are for babies and he's a big boy, and big boys go potty in the toilet. It also helps to have dad pee in front of them. Dad will make them feel like they are growing to be big boys. Thank God for my husband, I couldn't have done the boy thing by myself.

peeing outside is such an easy way to train.... they just go when they have to ... i trained my son that way .. it was so easy....

My son wasn't fully potty trained until after his third birthday. I just took him to the toilet frequently and said "it's time to go pee". When he went on the toilet we did a high five YAY! Pooping on the potty took a bit longer to do but it happened when he was ready.
