Usually between 2-2 1/2 yrs old is when you would actively start potty training.

I also think the big toilet with an insert works much better than the baby potty's that sit on the floor. #1 they are gross who wants to clean them and second they need to learn and get comfortable with the toilet anyways so why not use it from the beginning.

I think you should introduce sitting on a little potty around a year. I always encouraged my daughter to sit when I did. No pressure though. Some children will catch on quickly and have a desire to be trained and its great when that happens. If not that's okay too.

I missed the opportunity to train my daughter at 18 months due to my student teaching "job". Then she went into toddler defiant mode and rebelled against the toilet. All of a sudden at 26 months she just decided to use the toilet on her own. If she is naked, she uses the toilet completely independently and tells me afterwards. We are still using diapers at night and while out because she waits till the very last minute to say something while dressed. :)

Somewhere between 18 months and 4 years depending on the child. They'll let you know when they're ready. Trying to push it before the child is ready is a waste of your time and may set up a power struggle that will make it take longer.

Our motto is? When the child can communicate either verbally or non verbally that they need a diaper change its time to start going the toilet. All 3 of mine were trained at around 23 months

We started elimination communication at 6 weeks old, dry at night and pooping full time by 6 months old and out of diapers by 1. If you child is older than 18months, it can be more difficult but it's a matter of teaching them what's going on. They are smart enough to learn before the 'signs' though sometimes they're in a phase when they simply aren't interested. Getting them interested in the toilet, even sitting on it and not going so that they feel comfortable. Putting a kid potty in the playroom and letting them know what it's for. Even if they sit on it after going, they start to correlate that they felt the pee and it's supposed to go into the potty. Good luck!

It is not so much an age as it is if they show signs of being ready. My son was potty trained in a few days at 24 months old. My 24 month old daughter just likes to go sometimes so we have not pushed it with her.

Um, I think it depends on when the child is ready but between 2 1/2-2yrs is pretty normal.. My son started showing some interest in the potty when he was about 19 1/2 months. So I thought I would give the potty training a shot, well I later came to find out he was not interested in it as much as I thought he was. So I stopped for a bit because I seen that trying to train him when he wasn't fully interested or ready was jut causing him to not want to use the potty at all when I tried to get my son to use the potty he would kick and scream and cry. He finally started to use the potty more after he turned 3. I was told by many people that it is a normal age for a child to be potty trained. Now my son is fully daytime potty trained, and he loves wearing his race car and Diego underwear all the time. He still wears the pullups at night time as I haven't quite been able to master the night time potty training, :)
