Routines

I think it's time to implement a better routine, now that my little man is nearly 6 months old. Currently he has a bed time routine starting around 6 pm, of breastfeed/bottle, three teaspoons of cereal mixed with three teaspoons of a veggie, bath, lotion, bed around 7pm. Recently I added another solid meal at 10 am after a feeding/bottle, two teaspoons of cereal and two teaspoons of a fruit, then a nap. He seems to be adjusting to it well.

Now for me, I find I'm getting lazy. So I'm thinking of adding walk time around 1pm, and giving myself two hours for it. The gym is a 15 minute walk away, and the grocery store is 20 minutes away. I figure this way I can get a walk in, going to the gym or shopping for an hour before heading back. Also I think this time works for me since doctors appointments and such are typically between 1 and 3 pm. Possibly less disruptive this way? Thoughts?

Well the problem is that my other half works retail shift work, so it could be 9-5, 11-7 or 1-9. That's why most of the appointments are in the afternoon, because if he's off, he likes to sleep in, and if he's not, his parents don't do mornings. I figure that he can nap while we walk, and I've left the rest of the afternoon open for naps as well. I figure when he gets older, his bedtime is likely to be later, so nap time shouldn't affect bed time later on.

Routines are always great and good for kids. And the walks will be good for your son also. One thing to make sure of is to look out a little ways to make sure the routine will still work when your son is older and starts to transition to one nap a day. When my kids started one nap a day, it was always after lunch so I have never scheduled out of house time during those hours, we do everything in the morning. Just a thought.

That sounds great. I'm in the process of trying to get into a better routine myself. I find that most days, my sons and I are just lazing about the house, with nothing to do. Getting a walk in is a great idea, not only to get your baby out of the house but also get yourself up and moving. I believe I may follow suit.
