I am 38 weeks and my dr says at my next apt she is gonna strip my membrains, I am trying for a vbac and I know nothing about this. I know how its done but is it safe and natural? Will my contrations be harder if I do this? Plz tell me your story if you had this done. I am 38 weeks 2 cm dilated and 25% effaced.

i had my membranses stripped when i was 41 weeks pregnant and 1 cm dilated. i had it done at 9am...started having contractions around 2...my daughter was born at 3am. so in my case yes that did the trick lol. ive heard it works for some and not for others tho

I had my membranes stripped several times and still wound up being induced with my 1st girl. The first time it was just uncomfortable, the last couple of times it hurt, but it didn't do much of anything for me. The idea with stripping the membranes is to create a weak spot where your water can break naturally - if it does what it's supposed to do you should go into regular labor within 48 hours. The only risk with it is possible infection, but that is generally only if your water breaks and you don't go into labor within 48 hours.

i was 3 cm at 38weeks and they stripped mine, and it moved me to 4 cm and it stopped..i went in a week later they did it again, it did nothing. so they had to induce me with pitocin and then break my water too. lol. it was a long hard labor. i heard the stripping working on some people too and i wish it had worked, because it didnt, my husband deployed 3 days before they induced me, and didnt meet her til she was 3 months old.

They say it works for some and not for others. So I am guessing this is a safe thing to do?! I guess at my 39 week apt I will let her do it then. Thanks!

i had my membranes stripped at my 40 week appointment...i was around 50% effaced and 1 cm dialated....it did absolutely NOTHING for me. Didn't help me dialate, didn't help me contract, nothing. So be prepared that it may not do anything lol
