To vaccinate or not - flu shot and H1N1 shot...

My pediatrician told me to make sure and call the beginning of October to schedule an appointment for my baby (who will be alittle over 7 months in Oct) to get the regular flu shot and the H1N1 shot.

I have mixed feelings about both.

The regular flu shot doesn't scare me so much but I still don't know if I wanna make my baby get it. Some people get the flu from it, why would I wanna risk it? (on the other hand, could it prevent her from getting REALLY sick??? i don't know...)

I'm really pretty sure that I will NOT let her get the H1N1 shot... that really freaks me out. There hasn't been much testing or results that I've heard of... soo...

Anyways, really I'm just wondering the opinions of all you mommies.

Are you gonna make your babies get the vaccine?

I refuse to get the H1N1, it's too new. The flu shot isn't necessary.

Roybn,it sounds to me you are trying to convince yourself as to what your doing is right. If your children are vaccinated for everything including the flu shot...why are you worried about the kids that are not vaccinated giving them something..they won't get sick if there vaccinated right? you should be 100% of that.

As for me, I don't vaccinate. I'm not worried about him getting sick. It's natural for our bodies to fight these things, not inject toxins and who knows what into our bodies... our immune system will be great if it's not being compramised.

Please check out http://purecapitalhealth.com/ for more information on building the immune system with NutiFeron, clinically proven to kill the Flu virus. I would also recommend a pro biotic, (Optiflora), Infant multivitamins (Infant and Toddler Formula). I hope this helps.

with regards to the flu shot i get one and so does my 6 year old, i doubt i'll get the h1n1 vaccine just because it is so new and relatively untested, being at school his first year my son got the flu all the time, the next year i got him vaccinated and he got the flu alot less then he normally did, also my father has a heart condition if my son or me was to bring the flu home to him it could be more detremental, as well as we make regular visits to my hubbys moms house she is a nurse so we need to have one for her as well so were less likely of infecting her with the flu and then her infecting patients. also being pregnant myself at the moment, the last thing i need is my son to bring me home the flu or the H1N1 virus which can be fatal to children and elderly people, pregnant woman or people ask risk with lower immune systems. if you chose not to get the flu shot or hell if you have the flu then at least be respectful to others, ive known seen people who get the flu and then decide to go run around out in public, risking infection in god knows how many people and people just dont comprehend going out in public when your sick with the flu and go to the grocery store you risk giving the flu to seniors and kids and anyone else who touches whatever you might have touched, as for parents of kids in school gettin the flu, its common for kids especially in their first year or 2 of school, to get sick alot, so if your child gets a flu shot and then comes down with the flu a few days later thats actually quite normal for kids in the first and second grade of school they go from being home to a public building where germs are spread like wildfires, or other parents send their kids to school sick, or they just plain dont wash their hands enough, so flu and colds are very common in kids who are just starting in schools/day cares and what not, as for regular vaccinations parents who get no vaccinations what so ever are risking other peoples children for serious illness, people who want to vaccinate their children but have the wait for a certain age , their children can get exposed to something that could possibly be fatal because some other parent decided not to vaccinate.

On a morning show last week I saw a representative from the CDC saying that every student in America up to age 24 will receive a free swine flu shot, paid for by the government. That is extremely scarey to me. If they start offering to pay for it, the school are going to line the kids up and give it to them, and will be pressuring us as parents into allowing them to get it. I will not allow my kids to have the shot. The government and media are pushing this way too hard, makes me very suspicous.

Absolutely not. The reason that the CDC is not researching about how immunizations could be causing the increase in Autism is because the FDA won't allow it. It would then make the US financially liable to the millions of children who have been harmed by the shots that were changed in the late 70's.

I have two children; girl age 6 years and a son age 6 months. I was also wondering if I should give my son the flu shot at his next well visit. I gave my daughter the flu shot at her 6 month check up because we were going out of state. Well, she was so sick by the next day or two that I had to take her to the local hospital 5 STATES AWAY FROM HOME. I am convinced that getting the flu shot makes people sick. I personally stay away from it! Don't let those doctors pressure you into getting that stupid shot. It's like they get incentive for however many people they "recruit" or something. My doc pushed me everytime I came into her office...so I switched docs. It should be your decision, NOT someone elses. As for the H1N1...I don't feel safe injecting my children with that! I don't feel there has been enough research done. Just try to be cautious of your surroundings and wash hands after going into public places. I hope this helps :) Good luck!

Vaccinations given to infants in the U.S. contain the amount of Thymerisol (Mercury) that would normally be recommended to adult males weighing 200 lbs or more. Vaccinations containing Thymerisol have been BANNED in Canada. Studies have shown that there is no need for Mercury in vaccinations, and the only reason they started using Mercury in the first place was to preserve the vaccinations (in the 1950's). My husband and I have decided that when our children are old enough to personally decide if they want vaccinations they will have that choice. The only location in the United States where vaccinations without Mercury in them are offered just happen to be the health department in Virginia, where the politicians' families are likely to go. Doesn't that seem odd to you? No, we will not be receiving either of the flu shots, and have decided to keep our 9-month old out of daycare until the spring, after the flu season has passed. Try to keep your child as hydrated as possible, wash their hands often (yes, even babies) with soap and warm water for 20 seconds, and monitor any changes in behavior. Apart from fever while she was teething, Bella has been healthy every day of her life!

I think that getting the H1N1 vaccine is really a good idea, look at the stats, the ones dying from it are either really little or older?! But as far as the swine flu goes, I am on the fence..I dont know much about it and would definetley have to discuss it with my sons Pediatrician. And as far as the regular flu shot, its not a live virus so you wouldn't get the flu from the shot. Keep in mind that every year the flu changes thats why they have to come up with a new vaccine each year, the one from last year wouldn't work. So the CDC is making an educated guess as to what the flu strain will be this flu season..it could be totally wrong. So your child wouldn't get the flu from the shot, they would be getting a strain of the flu that the vaccine doesnt cover. However, the flu mist (the nasal vaccine) is a live virus..but your child wouldn't be a candidate for it.

Personally I think you can find "information" and "facts" to support anyside of the to vaccinate or not to vaccinate debate. Anyone can twist numbers and manipulate studies to say anything, especially when scare tactics are involved. This is a topic for your family and your doctors to discuss/debate and then after having the discussion with your doctor, you should make your choice. For me, I have followed the what our doctor recommends. My daughter is 2 and has had all of her shots, we just got her flu shot for the second year and she has never been sick with anything other then a cough. Never had a fever, ear ache, or runny nose. I have never shielded her from germs or large crowds, and she is perfectly healthy. Do what you think is best, but you need to get information from the proper sources to make the correct choice.

Well let me start off by telling you that I feel the same way about the H1N1 shot. I no longer get any of my kids the flu shot. Only because two years ago I decided to give my baby the flu shot. Well not only did he have an allergic reaction..because at the time we did not know that my son was allergic to egg whites and the flu shot is grown in egg whites , but he ended up catching the flu within the next couple of days. Then all my kids ended up catching the flu. So my baby can no longer get the shot anyways but I still don't get it for my older kids either.

No, these diseases have not dissappeared because we are meant to get them as children in order to build up our immune systems. Very occasionally do they have more serious consequences and those would be in children whose immune systems are already compromised. However, lots of evidence has come forward to show that there can and are serious side effects to the vaccines. I have lived in a third world country for 30 years and worked in hospitals in such places.

It would not take long for the childhood diseases of old to run rampant without vaccinating. These diseases have not disappeared. They are being held at bay by the immunization process. Go to a 3rd world country (yes i have) and see what life is really like.

No shots here! My son is 13 months, and although we opted to NOT vaccinate at all until 24 months, we have decided against the flu and swine flu shot as well. We chose the alternate schedule for routine vaccinations to give him a chance to build up his immune system on his own, and to NOT have all of the extra and dangerous additives found in the vaccines in his body. There is just too much information withheld from the general public about vaccines and their possible side effects that we just don't want to chance with our son. As far as the Swine flu vaccine, I just can't justify giving it to him due to the lack of research and testing. I read an article saying that the actual shot that is tested is not the shot that is given. Why would they do that? The most dangerous additive in the vaccine is the same one that caused paralysis years ago when vaccines were first being used....the SAME additive!! Here's a website that just skims the surface; http://w3.newsmax.com/blaylock/47a.cfm There is so much information out there, (my husband does all of this research for me; lucky me!) but you just have to be willing to find the answers!! Please don't feel that I am judging ANYONE for choosing to vaccinate, this was our personal choice and I have become a victim of judgment based on this decision, therefore I would NEVER try to argue the choices of others. I'm just sharing the information that I have come across in hopes of an open mind finding it useful! Good luck and stay healthy!! Here's another helpful website.... http://www.vaccinetruth.org/

seriously only 450 give or take people have died from this flu when there ire some 35,000 people that die every year from the common flu.

My family gets the flu shot every year and there has been no problems. My 1yr old daughter had it (twice actually, the first time they need 2) and we've had no problems, and were very healthy all winter. You can NOT!! get the flu from the flu shot. The shot is made up from a dead virus. Most ppl end up sick after the flu shot from sitting in the waiting room with sick ppl, waiting to get the shot. H1N1 I haven't looked into much, but if the doctor recommends it then who am I to argue.

Im a supporter of getting the regular vaccines for your baby (hooping cough, measles, chicken pox, polio, etc.) but in the case of flu shots I dont see the benifit. As is explained by Sue (the wealth and wellness advisor who responded) our children need a chance to develop their own immune systems and giving them these vaccines inhibts their bodies abilities to do this. I make sure my daughter eats a healthy diet, participates in plenty of physical activities and practices good hygiene and I keep the house well stocked with vapour rubs and other such things for when flus stirke. Also (as cruel as it may seem to some) if a friends child has a minor flu rather than avoiding that family I specificly organise a playdate with that child so that m daughter immune systems gets a work out. I do this beacuse I have read that (and had confirmed by my doctor) immune systems that dont get a chance to develop due to extreme cleanliness, vaccines and lack of exposure to mild flus are more likely to react to non-harmful substances causing certain food allergies. Kids get sick and mor often than not its a good thing.

Nope. I've never had the flu shot and have never given it to my daughter because most of the time the vaccine is for the wrong strain of flu. Thus, we are allowing a virus to be injected into our bodies that, 80% of the time is not even what that season's flu is. I would rather have my body build up it's own immune system rather than rely drugs with unhealthy side effects to make me think I'm healthy. Also, as someone mentioned above, the last swine flu vaccine caused more cases than the disease itself. I wouldn't get it, and would just be careful about where you take your child for a while. Babies that young especially shouldn't be getting large doses of poorly-tested vaccines.

I can understand the controversy over other vaccines, but on this one I just don't get it. The last time there was widespread use of the Swine Flu vaccine (in the 70s) it had to be pulled because more people were dying from the vaccine than the flu. There is a known connection between the H1N1 vaccine and Guillain-Barre syndrome, so much so that the British NHS sent an alert for doctors to be on the lookout for GBS related to vaccines.

I just don't understand why anyone would push for such a dangerous vaccine with so little benefit.

http://www.lawyersandsettlements.com/blo...

I wouldn't get it myself or for my baby. Neither kind of flu are likely to make you really sick - I mean, it can be serious but it usually isn't. Also, they are not that contagious. For H1N1, each sick person is expected to infect 2 others, compared with measles where each sick person is likely to infect 13 others. I just plan to practise good hygiene, like regular handwashing, and keep flu supplies at home so I can treat fever if we do get it I tried to keep my baby away from crowded public places over the winter flu season too.

As a Health and Wellness Advisor I would work on building the baby's immune system.

The body has a much better natural defense system - it can adapt and make it's own anti-bodies that will not only work to kill the virus but once the body makes these anti-bodies - the next time it comes in contact with this virus it is already prepared. this is exactly how our immune sysytem get stronger.

If we do vaccinations/innoculation then the vaccine is doing the protecting and the body never lerans how to make it's own anti-bodies.

I hope you understand - this is a complicated system explained quickly and very very simply.
