The only things proven to naturally induce labor are sex (sperm on the cervix) and nipple stimulation. Don't do the castor oil thing. Especially if you are already overdue. It can cause the baby to have his first bowel movement inside of you and make you both really sick.

I was at least 10 days overdue with all four of mine!!!  I'm afraid we just have 2 wait for them to decide when their ready to come, either that or they induce you, which had happned to me twice..which wasn't as bad as i thought it would be, by that time you just want to get on with it.. lol

I was overdue by a week. My midwife told me sex helps. The semen has enzymes that soften the cervix. Walking helped me. They can strip your membrane but she told me it would be very uncomfortable. I say if you have had a healthy pregnancy, to just wait it out. Your baby knows when it needs to come. The lungs are the last to develop and once they are ready it releases a hormone to start labor. TRY not to get artificially induced. Babies dont go by a calendar or numbers. A due date is an educated guess, so dont do anything rash just because it didnt happen on that day. It's supposed to happen AROUND that date...that's what they should tell you. As long as you dont go close to 2 weeks over. But like I said, if it is a healthy pregnancy the baby will come when it's supposed to. Hang in there :)

Red wine or curry. But please don't take hot baths, it can be dangerous for the baby.

Yet you are promoting alcohol? As long as baths aren't EXTREMELY hot they are okay. I think the temp limit was 120 degrees farenheit. The reason bathes were an issue because of UTI's or yeast infections or something like that, but this is why receive prenatal care and they check the protein in the urine. :D

Also, nothing helped me they had to induce me a week overdue after I walked, did the do, walked some more, nipple stimulation, sex, walk... Ect... I even had my membraned stripped at some point... He just was stubborn.

the no bath thing in you last trimester is an old wives tale...ask any doctor and they will tell you the same.....you are just not suppose to take a bath after your water has broken......

What's your hurry? The baby will come when they are ready. I was late by 4 days with my 1st and 5 days late with my 2nd. I heard walking helps. Go to the mall and walk around.

dont do the castor oil thing, thats dangerous for your baby. walk lots, have sex lots, and be patient:) 80% of babies are born about a week after due date

Walking, sexual arousement to get that uterus contracting, or simply wait for the barameter to drop.

Squaw Vine (also called partridge berry) and mother wort are herbs that are supposed to help jump start labor. The squaw vine is also supposed to aid in leg cramps and lower back pain associated with late pregnancy and the mother wort will help you to feel relaxed and keep your blood pressure from spiking. I got them at my local health food store.

Fresh pinapple is supposed to contain some kind of acid that softens tissue, causing your cervix to dialate.

Sex causes contractions and cervical softening as well, and there is a antibacterial component in semen as well.

Spicy food is supposed to help because it irritates your bowels, however, then your bowels are irritated and theres no garuntee of it getting your labor going.

Walking and being upright in general is supposed to aid in getting your baby out because then you are working with gravity.

Have you looked at accupressure points to jump start labor? You can find them online. One spot is right above your butt crack in the middle of your lower back you will feel an indent in your spine. apply pressure/massage for 60 second intervals. You will know you got the right spot if it feels like you are pressing on a bruise. Another one is 4 fingerwiths above your inner ankle bone on the side of your shin. again, pressure/massage for 1 min and should feel like a bruise. You can find many more online. Good luck!!

The World Health Organisation says that pregnancy can last till 42 weeks, so technically you are not overdue until you are 42weeks +. Induction is an intervention which leads to further interventions which lead to more painful lavours. Good luck, and trust your body and your baby!

Lots of walking, between rest lol and cold water can help make them move. I had to drink cold water to make my daughter move when I was on a monitor.

Sex, sex and more sex... Also they say stimulating your nipples help (is contracts your cervix). I was walking all day, shopping and stuff, took a HOT shower and about 7 hours later I was in labor. WALKING definately helps, try the hot shower too.

i was 2 weeks over and had to be induced, you just have to wait till your baby is ready, if i wouldnt have waited my sone would have been premature, so its best to wait till your baby is ready to come out, its the best thing for them.

SEX! That got it in there it will get it back out too ;) If that still doesn't work then ask you OB to "strip your membranes"it's a little painful but works like a charm and soooo much better than being induced. I know this for sure because none of my 4 kids wanted to come out! My 1st 2 where 2weeks overdue before I was induced, my 3rd came 6 hours after being stripped and my 4th came by using my own advise!! GOOD LUCK!

due dates are guesses. They are not always accurate. By stressing about it, you cause stress hormornes. Your baby will come when ready. take this time to relax....youll need it! Slow dance with someone. Its fun and will help move things along. do relaxing things and remember not to rush your baby.....IT's the boss anyway!

Take a hot bath and just relax....screen your calls because you don't need to hear all the..."haven't you had the baby yet?" This baby will come when it is ready and not one minute sooner, unless you mess with the process of the whole thing and artificially have something done, in which case you would be a good canidate for a c-section. I was ALWAYS 1 week overdue. They probably got your date wrong and anyways, it's just an ESTIMATED DATE OF ARRIVAL. Blessings to you and may you have a great experience!

a due date is still an approximate date, about +/- 2 weeks around the date is still normal. Babies usually come when babies are ready, not when convenient to ob/gyns and mums (however frustrating it may be, waiting to meet your little one). Potter around, get ready, prepare a birthday cake, go to your last movie for a long while...

I got told to try the three hots, hot sex, hot food and a hot bath but really when you are that far pregnant none of them sound appealing. A fresh pineapple worked for me and if it doesn't work there are worse things to try :)

My mother was 3 weeks overdue with myself (I'm baby #1), and she was 2 weeks early with my sister (baby #2). My suggestion is don't stress about it. You're little bun in the oven just may want a little more time to cook ;). There's nothing wrong or bad about that, promise! Plus, the Dr's could have been wrong with the due date *shock*, because we all know that NEVER happens, lol! I have heard the same about sex, squats, and doing lots and lots of walking. I'd try that ;). But NO intense workouts, you don't want to cause problems, just contractions :D.

My sister was overdue also and she walked for about 2 hours. Three hours later she was in labor and 4 hours after that my niece was born. My OB told me that having intercourse and finishing...lol would also help put you in labor. A friend of mine tried that approach and it worked, she went into labor that night.

Try fresh (not tinned) pineapple, something to do with the enzymes in it that either helps or makes your uterus contract!

Please talk to your doctor before you try anything extreme!!! Castor oil is a diaretic, and gives your diarea cramps, which are verry painful, and in turn your contractions normally kick start. It can be very bad for you, and give you complications during labor. Please talk to your doctor!!!
