I would love to go on a family vacation that is not too expensive. Because we would like to go to disney but that is really expensive. I would like to go some where that I don't have to spend over $1000 on a vacation. And I don't want to drive all day to get there.

Mountain View is gooooorgeous!!! I love all of the natural rivers and springs in Arkansas! They're so clear! Makes it a lot easier to see when a water moccasin has his eyes on you! lol! =)

We went to the Memphis Zoo about 6 weeks ago. I loved the new Teton Trek. We try to go to to Memphis about 2-4 times a year as it's only a 2 hr drive for us and my kids love it. My next vacation, though is to Mountain View where Blanchard Springs National Park is. The caverns are awesome!

Hey Brandice- we go to the Mem Zoo allll the time! we're members, so we're there at least once a week! Have you seen the new Teton Trek exhibit!?
We love to go camping too. We haven't been since I had my daughter, but I'm anxious to go soon! We used to live in Chattanooga, I don't think there was ever a day when we weren't outside doing something, somewhere! =)

I live in Arkansas, and for our vacations, we go camping a lot. We also go to the Memphis Zoo just for a change of scenery really. We also visit state parks when they have shows/exhibits going on. Nothing better than being outdoors with the family. =)

Shannon, there are many other things to do in Florida that are kid oreinted aside from disney. Stefie mentioned the cost of airfare and this is 100% true. It's actually more economic to drive than to fly nowadays. You're in Louisianna there are tons of things to do in your surrounding area that would only take a few hours to drive. I live in TX and it's a little bit more difficult to plan family vacations however, we've managed to stay within state and find some really cool things to do with the kids. San Antonio is an awesome experience. So has Waco, Austin, Dallas, Galveston, Corpus Christi and other smaller areas around Texas. We've spent no more than about $1200 for these trips and the kids have had wonderful experiences. Jessica is right! There's a dinner, desert and show cruise that leaves out of Kemah that is only about $60 for adults and $39 per child and the kids LOVED it!! I've attached a link for you to look at.http://www.starfleetyachts.com/ Also, find out about camp grounds rather than hotels. The KOA has camp sites that start at $10 per night. It's a little roughing it but it makes it adventurous as well. Maybe not the entire time you're wanting to go on vacation but a night won't hurt. In Galveston on the beach they do not charge you to put up a tent. My kids LOVE going camping on the beach!! Anyhow, I hope that this information is helpful and I wish you the best of luck in planning your vacation!!!

What about heading to the Emerald Coast. We went to destin a few years back and had a blast! We stayed in the holiday inn. Its round, so they're all pretty much ocean view rooms. There are great places to eat, shop, and play. Big Kahuna's Water Park is A LOT of fun! (just don't lay on the lazy river for 2 hours or the remainder of your trip will be very miserable!) You can go deep sea fishing and hop on a bottomless boat for a guided dolphin cruise! And in case you get burnt... there is a very nice target and walmart right on the scenic hwy 98 to supply all your needs! =) I mean- speaking from experience, lol.

First, I would start checking fares now, air fare is expected to go up 25% in the coming weeks as the price of oil keeps going up due to speculation. Many experts are saying that now is a good time to buy. Don't forget to check flex dates and sites like Kayak to get good fares.

Next, maybe look into nice other kinds of places to visit like Cedar Point is really neat and less expensive than Disney. You may also want to look for things like national parks, zoos, museums, ect.
