Waking up 3 times a night at 9 months

Does anyone know how best to put a baby back to bed when they wake up 3 times a night? My husband works all day and isn't the best at waking up quickly so I really don't mind being the one going in to help out my child. However, then it seems only nursing helps soothe him and since he used to sleep through the night, this new experience is no fun. He is also teething (he now has 8 teeth) and probably hitting 9-month growth spurt. But...I just don't know what to do with my poor howling child standing up in his crib needing some comfort. If I let him cry, it usually is 45 minutes before he even quiets only to begin howling again...basically all sleep I have lost anyway. So, any ideas? Thanks!

Express some milk and give him a bottle. I don't know what is currently recommended but I will say that my son woke up 2x a night till he was 2!!! I don't want to be mean - but it's sort of like you gotta buck up and get it done. Letting the baby cry for 45 min is cruel and unusual punishment to me because they always cry for a reason and to be in the dark looking for mom or dad and just left hanging doesn't sit well with me, but you gotta do it the way you do it. Ultimately though if you think you don't like crying for 45 min I bet he doesn't either. There are some sacrafices we have to make but it's worth it!
