I have been at home for the past 10 years raising my kids and now want to get back to the working world. Problem is my resume is out dated and I do not have any current references, any one in the same boat?

Hi Sara, Thank you for your ideas, they are ones I have read several other places too. My background, prior to being a SAHM is in Human Resources. I have discovered that I have been away from the work place far to long to just jump right back into that. I am considering going back to school and changing my field.

Being a SAHM is a job and you really need to be able to sell it as a job on your resume. Highlight those skills (ie multi tasking, coping with stressfull situations, prioritizing) As far as referemces go, look back through the years and pick out times were you have lead or coached activities for your kid(s). Or maybe you didn't lead but were highly involved. Either way you should be able to find references that way. ANybody you are not related to, and can testify to your work ethic.

Did you ever do volunteer work at your children's schools or in a church? One of your kids' teachers or a religious leader would be a good reference. Also, did you ever keep anyone else's kids? They would be a good reference to your trustworthiness. You just have to get a little creative when finding references. =) Good luck! By the way, what type of work are you looking for?
