I stay at home with my children. I have a son turning 4 in December and a daughter turning 2 in December. I was thinking about putting my son in to preschool for two days a week jsut for him to socialize some and have help learning. Anytime we try and siut down and learn my daughter likes to get in the way! :) Well when I saw the cirriculum for his class it wasn't what I expected and decided to wait another year, I know everybody says to do whats best for my child, I was just wanting people's opinion on preschool. Thanks

i would put him in preschool. if he has any trouble learning those things will be dealt with. he will also learn from the other kids. it's important for him to know how to socialize before kindergarten.

I have 4 kids and only 2 of them are school aged..I am planning on putting the younger 2 in preschool more for the interaction with other children than the learning. My oldest went to preschool for 2 years(his b-day made him miss the cutoff the 2nd year) and now he's in 8th and is an honor role student who is very outgoing and helps even the kids noone else will at school. My oldest daughter is my step daughter who lives w/me and myhusband and when her mom had her she was against preschool so she struggles a little bit w/reading and socializing. She's getting better now,but it just took a bit longer w/her thna my son. my 2 youngest girls don't really get to socialize w/any one but eachother so I want them to be around other children before I consider kindergarten. My personal belief is Preschool does wonders for children and it also gives you a bit a of a break even if it is only 2 or 3 days a week for a couple hours. Then when it comes time for "real"school maybe they won't have a problem w/seperation anxiety.

I depends on the child and your particular situation.

I home-school my girls, but we are highly involved with church (2-3 times a week + functions), my oldest is on a bowling league, and we often have other children over as I tutor on the side, so we get socialization that way.
My nephew, however, is an only child and his mom doesn't involve him in anything except for the occasional visit to her mom's house (two aunts who are 17 & 14 are still at home). So he LOVES his preschool! He makes friends with everyone and it has really helped him in the sharing department and with manners. For him and his situation, preschool was a very good thing!
If you want to teach him yourself, I suggest you try getting your daughter involved too (give her something to "do school" with too, even if it's sorting blocks or something), she will feel big and probably not be in the way as much. We went so far as to buy desks for each of the girls (um, not the baby, lol) because my 2 year old loves to "do school" too, even though her "school" is a peice of paper and some crayons which only occupies her long enough for her to get bored of "school" and go back to her room to play. My 4-year-old is actually very studious! She's been "doing school" (not formally, yet) since she was about 2 too, starting the same way, by just a paper & crayons keeping her occupied. This has helped my 7-year-old learn to ignore interruptions and distractions while studying... a must for lots of things in life.
You have to weigh your options and your particular situation. If you go with a preschool, just find a good one that you are comfortable with (here we can pick preschool). If you decide to keep him home this year; trust your instincts, you can do a very good job with him yourself.
~Hope this helps!

My daughter loves school work at home so she was told if she got pottied trained I would send her to school this year. That was the trick! She has just turned 4 and will be starting school next week. I have found (with my son) that it helps them learn how to play and act with other kids and help them not to be so clingy to the parents. I love preschool! If you find that they aren't reading for kindergarden the next year you can always have them go through preschool 2 years.

im not sure it really makes much difference. other than that they are less shy about school the next year. i think its all stuff you could teach him at home, and that he would relearn in kindergarten anyway....but thats just my opinion
