I tried Similac, Infamil & all the sensitive formula's within each brand. He throws up after every bottle of milk. I just started Good Start Gental Plus & he still throws up, a lot. I'm so exhausted and he is too. He has not lost any weight but just continues to throw up.

No offense Julie, but some of us can't breastfeed for some reason or another and having it put on a thread like this is kinda a moot point. It also brings up feelings in the ones who HAD to stop. You are somewhat correct about the goats milk formula, just depends on the baby. Humans ARE meant to have meat and most plants, but we are not actually meant to have some things such as wheat and dairy. Our bodies have evolved to tolerate them and an intolerance is just our bodies saying they didn't retain that evolutionary tolerance. I do have a question for Julie. What makes you think a BEAN derived formula would be full of a hormone that makes little girls start puberty early. Homeopathically, soy mixes with many things for many different reasons... and THAT is something it doesn't do. Their does exists a soy based mixture to DELAY a young girls period... but it is typically only used in places where a girls period means she must marry and the mother employ the tea in secret to save their daughter from getting married too early... or to avoid a marriage with an older man until the daughter is ready. The point is it does nothing of the sort and besides being highly nutritious and being good for overall health... it doesn't do anything without being mixed with something else first. Your barking up the wrong tree for an early puberty. that is a different mixture and it doesn't use soy.

Try the Enfamil ProSobee its a Soy formula. My son couldn't drink other formulas either...he ALWAYS spit up with other formulas. So I went to the doctor and he recommended ProSobee or any Soy formula might help could be a Milk allergy...and i just recently found out that he has a complete dairy allergy and it was causing him to break out and get ear infections.

Would you ever attempt to nurse at this time...?
Breast is best! = health happy babies agree :o)
Try a goat's milk formula ... for some reason it is far gentler ...
Stay away from SOY - it is FULL of female estrogens! Its not even good for your little girls as they will come into puberty far too early in life...

Terri - The only problem with the vegan idea, is not everyone else is vegan and not everyone is going to share that point of view. I am allergic to the lactose, so i get lactose free milk. It is fine and I have been through testing all my life, but I don't think it is all dairy, because my pediatrician is awesome and just said that they have to do soy. He said that he can have everything else as far as cheeses, just in moderation. I was once a veggitarian, but will not go back, as I got extremely sick from it. I can say that I lost so much of the nutrients I needed even with taking the supplements and the extra vitamins and all else that goes with it. My doctor said that I needed to stop doing the vegan lifestyle. I also became anemic and have been battling that for some time now because of my previous vegan life...and yes I do know there is a difference between vegan and veggitarian. I am just saying that your answer may not be the best for someone else.

Humans are actually allergic to dairy because we are not meant to use it. Follow Dr. Benjamin Spock's (author of international bestseller Dr. Spock's Baby and Child Care and the most trusted pediatrician in the world for decades) and nurse your baby or else use soy formula. He advocated being vegan from birth on and as a lifelong vegan and a mom to a vegan family (as well as administrator of an international vegan organization), I can tell you it is healthiest. It is the dairy in the formula and your baby is obviously ultrasensitive to dairy.

Have you tried Isomil...it is soy. My son is highly allergic to the regular and the sensitive. I put him on soy and it worked like a charm. He is now on soy milk, but it is due to an allergy of cow's milk. My other son is on soy formula too. I am lactose intolerant, so I passed it on. If Similac Isomil (soy) does not work, then you should try Alimentum. It is more expensive, but it is what I have heard works if the child has a high allergy to the formula. If not, he may need goat's milk. That is okay as long as the doctor says to do it. Consult your pediatrician, and I am sure they would point you to soy. It's what they usually do.

You might try soy formula. My son had awful reflux. We tried all the specialty formulas, even they didn't help. Finally did meds (zantac) & soy formula w/ some rice cereal mixed in....It was amazing what a difference it made....for all of us!

My son had reflux and we tried almost every formula sold at stores. He kept spitting up so much up to a few hours after each bottle and would scream and be in pain all day long. We tried zantac, prevacid and prilosec with no results. It wasn't until we started him on prescription Neocate formula that the reflux started to get better, then went away completely. This was almost a year ago and he is still sensitive to milk and drinks soy milk.

Try a Lactose Free formula with my daughter the milk was just to hard on her belly. She is now 15 months old and I had no problems weaning her to homo milk.

I forgot to say this before (was half asleep actually) but Nestle Good-start formula is the best I found. I did my research and it is the closest to breast milk, and they even try to get the soy to be as close as possible. Our doctor suggested it actually. It is gentle and really good for spit-up as well as gas. Both of my kids are sensitive tummy kids. Youngest is a little worse but he was also born almost a month early. Try Nestle Good start.

before anyone says anything (it comes up a lot) my first couldn't tolerate breast-milk and I had a physical problem that caused me to dry up when my second was two months old.

I mostly stick with home remedies. the water bottle helps my son. In between feeding I give him 2-4 (depending on how bad he is at the time) ounces of water with a tiny bit of sugar in it. it works for gas an sometimes hick-ups too.

My two month old is the same. We figured out that if we alternate (with smaller bottles mind you) between water bottles and formula bottles he doesn't puke as much. Our 1 yr old on the other hand also had the same problem but stopped when we put cereal in it. It was also discovered that both kids needed soy formula. Soy is all both kids can have. hope it helps.

Both my kids were lactose intolerant, So, I had to buy the Similac soy already made liquid formula and I also bought Milacone infant gas relief drops. i would make up all the bottles with 3 drops per 8 oz. 2 drops per 6 oz, 1 drop per 4oz.... Please try this, It takes about 2 weeks for a baby's system to adjust to a different formula, so in the meantime, you can get the gas drops and start using them. Those work instantly. Just sounds like to me the same problem I had with mine. All baby's have gas, and these ARE safe and effective and actually work. Get some relief and rest!

Definitely Nutramigen! Worked wonders for us, my baby had very bad reflux and we tried everything to no avail. Then we saw this specialist and he put us on Nutramigen. She got very quickly better and her reflux stopped completely within a month.Good luck!!

Have you discussed this with your ped? Maybe your baby would like soy or hypoallergenic. Babies can develop sensitivities as they get older. It was much easier while trying out different formulas with th e peds guidance knowingthey were looking out for my childrens nutritianal needs.

First I would check for Acid Reflux, if that isnt it, I just had this problem, it may be that hes constipated. My son was on formula and my daughter is breastfeed and she had spit up i thought it was acid reflux but after BFing her about every hour the first few times she pooed really well, this last time I ended up takign her to the hospital where they xrayed her and found out she had a blockage at the beggining of her intestines (her poo was really water and smelt like throw up) after giving her a supository then later an enima she was fine, pooping and not spitting up!

I would not use soy formula--there is a debate about soy being the number one genetically modified ingredient in food. Some argue it may do harm, others argue it won't. There is no research, i don't think to back it up, but why take the risk? For my first child I made my own formula which is goat-milk based. I can give you the recipe if you are interested. It's work, but it worked for us and my baby.

I hope the meds the dr gave you work. The only thing that worked on my oldest was putting him on whole milk and taking him off formula all together. Our dr(s) kept telling us that sometimes babies just spit up. They refused to do anything. He is a healthy almost 5 year old that just couldn't handle formula. I also just happened to not have drs that would listen to me as a mother. They still don't.

hi
a lot of kids are being tested for food allergies which in turn leads to development delays.
Our son is on a GFCF diet Now and is on the Autism spectrum . I would suggest you moms to be careful as per the latest DR OZ show . Do not depend on your pediatricians and Go get a specialist opinion.

If he's exhausted, it's probably not just reflux, although that may be present. How long after drinking the formula does he throw up? How violent is it (like a complete stomach emptying or more of a "just spit up a little" kind of thing)? When did it start, how old was he? The fact that he's not losing weight is a good thing. I would suggest talking with your ped, and getting a recommendation for a pediatric allergist and/or GI specialist. He could just be lactose intolerant, or he could have an allergy - including a non-standard, non-IgE allergy, which the specialist could help diagnose. In the meantime, the soy formulas may help. However, there is a strong correlation among kids with milk allergies and also being soy allergic. The suggestion from other moms for Neocate or Elecare is the next step after soy and Nutramagin. They are expensive and insurance doesn't usually cover them though. But they are amino acid based and are about 99% effective for kids who can't tolerate the other formulas. The good news is that even if he is allergic to milk, the chances for outgrowing it are very good. My 3-year-old had reflux and milk allergy and outgrew both. My 7-year-old still has controlled reflux, and has outgrown 9 out of 10 known allergies. So believe me, there is hope, and things will get better. Good luck to you!

How fast is he drinking the bottle? If it doesn't take him atleast 30 minutes to drink an 8oz bottle he maybe drinking it to fast which will make him throw up. My son did this for about 6 weeks until someone mention this to me and I changed his bottle to a slower flow. Just something you may not have thought of.

some babies just do that - no matter what - I wouldn't worry if he's not losing weight. you can try making sure he is somewhat upright when you feed him, and stays that way for about 30 minutes after a feeding. or maybe a different bottle? if you are stressed about it, but it may/may not help :/

I really feel for you. It sounds like your son has an allergy to proteins. My son was allergic to all proteins (Allergic Colitis) as an infant and couldn't tolerate breast milk - he had severe diaroeah all the time. He also had severe reflux which caused him to projectile vomit all the time. It was thought by one GP that he had pyloric stenosis, which was incorrect. So I had to add a thickener to his Neocate formula - obtained by prescription from his ped - to control the vomiting. I was constantly washing his and my clothes and bedding from all the vomiting - it really is exhausting. My son was failing to thrive, so I suggest you get some tests done on whether it is a protein allergy or something else - it could be more than one thing, like in my son's case. My son is nearly five-years-old now and is HUGE! So he recovered from all the problems very well and began to tolerate many proteins from about 14 months. Good luck and try and get some rest.

I had the same issue with my daughter. What i found helped was stay with the Good Start that's in the purple can but only let him drink 1 or 2 oz then burp him. also if that doesn't work consult your pediatrician. I could give you other suggestions but i don't know how old your kiddo is if he is old enough to be introduced solids you can put a little oatmeal in his formula to thicken it.

IF your infant does have a milk allergy, which I would recommend getting checked out, than Soy will not work for that. The same protein that is in the milk based formula is in the soy formula. So keep that in mind if soy still doesn't work. My son's formula is an Amino Acid based so it isn't milk or soy.

For the Infant Neocate that we get him its about 34 dollars a can. It's with DHA and ARA, the one that doesn't have the DHA and ARA is about ten dollars more per can. It's pricey but with how much it's helped him it is worth it.
