Mine are 2 & 3 and I also have a newborn. We go to the library twice a week, the park daily, read books together, put together puzzles, color and draw, count, sing songs, recite rhymes (ie: hey diddle diddle), play with playdough or sand box, go fishing, take them to zoos/aquariums often, and cook/bake together. We don't watch TV. The easiest way to get rid of that is to turn it OFF and do something! Good luck hon!

I have a 3 1/2 yr and 2yr old girls. Both have minimal attention spans, but I can always keep them occupied with Playdoh, Colouring (I have printed colouring sheets on A5 paper of their favourite characters), Painting with Water books, Outdoor Painting, Finger Paints and I have a box of craft things like feathers and sequins that they can glue to paper. The biggest hit for them at the moment are puzzle books and lift the flap reading books.

Building blocks and balls are good. Kitchen and dolls are also fun for girls. The main thing is for you to be helpful to her. You did not mention an age, so that makes a big diffrence.

What about going to a museum or aquarium. Make a fun activity, maybe take a drawing pad with you guys. Ask her if she can draw you some of the fishes or something from the exhibitions. I don't know but that sounds fun to me.

Crafts have always helped keep my sanity and been a big hit for my 3yr old daughter. Finger painting, coloring and playdough. I make my own playdough and that keeps her occupied at the table for a long time. Now that she's 3, she's starting to use scissors and and glue sticks. And that's been great... she'd cut and paste paper forever. We also spend a lot of time baking cookies, ever since she was old enough to stand on a chair and hold a spoon, she's been stirring and measuring for me.

Also, Lucy's right about unplugging the TV. It really will help. I'm not saying that I've unplugged mine, but it seems that when I limit my daughter's TV time, she's in a much better mood and can entertain herself much better.

Hope these ideas have helped a bit. Good luck. :)

do you have lego blocks or any type of blocks? Sit down with her and build a small tower, then ask her if she can build one bigger or even a castle. Blocks usually keep my 3yr old entertain for a good 1/2 hour or more she loves to build something and show me and loves my reaction of my surprise and wonder of what a great job she did.
