I try not to use any pharmaceuticals. You can help your baby get rid of any virus and infections by raising his Alkaline level. You can do this with diluted baking soda in water. 1/2 a teaspoon a day. Be creative and find the best way to have him drink it. You can do this for 3 days.

sounds like it could be teething or an ear infection

i know this is a few days later but if he's not eating and not sleeping well and has a fever, check his mouth for sours and swollen gums. it could be viral herpesangina (i know my spelling isn't right) both my girls have gotten this between 12 months and 15 months of age. unfortunetly if this is it there is nothing you can do for them except let it run it's course (about 5-7 days) ice pops, ice cream, ice chips, anything cold to soothe the pain. the reason they aren't eating is because it's extremly plainful to chew or even suck a bottle. motrin for the fever, switched out with tylenol for the pain. i pray this isn't it but from what you wrote it certainly sounds like it.

he could be teething. When my son started teething his molars he did many of the same things. They can be tortuous for some little ones and for weeks on end. hope you can get some relief soon. It's awful because there isn't much you can do for them.

it sounds like he's teething to me. is he pulling on his ears or rubbing his gums or putting things in his mouth? My daughter doesn't eat very well when she's teething(she's almost 18 months old now and getting molars).

My son just turned one too and he has been teething bad he's getting 2 of his back teeth in. Sounds like your son has the same symptoms, mine had fevers and couldn't sleep as well as not wanting to eat, has he been drooling alot and putting his fingers in his mouth or bitting down on everything. Give him a wet towel to naw on or some baby oragel.

Charlotte I thought the same thing.. ear infection. I would take him to the doctor ASAP.

He could have an ear infection or fluid in behind his eardrum.

Hes sick. You can take him to the doc who can do an exam to check for things you aren't able to such as ear infections, strep, etc. There have been several times that my son acted this way and felt warm and when I went to take his temp, it was dangerously high (105). Thats another reason to take him to the doc is if you cant get a temp because thats important.

How hot is it where you are? Maybe it's just the heat. Sometimes that can really effect little ones and make them not feel like eating and stuff. Maybe it's just the heat. Try to give him some pedialite popsicles and at least get some kind of fluids into him to make sure he doesn't get dehydrated. If necessary take him to the nearest ER.

Poor little guy! It could be anything. I know when my son was teething, we would get the temps, not eating etc. If he's not drinking try and give him at least a icy pole, try to keep his fluids up. Keep up with the panadol. Hope your son is feeling better soon!!

Make sure he is having at least 6 wet nappies in 24hrs (if not you need to take him to the ER as this means he is dehydrated) If he has an ear infection he most likely will be pulling on the sore ear. It could also be a UTI (urinary tract infection) the signs for this are fever, unhappy/fussy bub, lack of appetite, you may also notice him cry alot through out the day as when he wee's it could be hurting him. His wee may also be a darker colour or smelly. Now my daughter had a UTI at 10mths and had NO symptoms other then a temp. We noticed a temp in the morning by that night it was 40c (very high!!) took her to the ER and was told to go home there is nothing wrong (love to know since when a temp of 40 was nothing) took her to a GP the nest day he said the same thing. I was waking up every hr that night to check on her and just before my alarm went off at 4am the sound of her vomiting woke me up. We rushed her to the ER and the doc there was horrified by the start of her and rang for a Pead Doc right away, she was in hospital for a week. I say again she had NO symptoms other then a fever. So I would get him checked out as soon as I could if I were you. UTI's in boys are not common but they DO happen.

Sounds like teething to me since there are no other signs of illness. Ear infections are usually preceded by a cold unless they are already known to have multiple infections. My baby always got a fever with teeth and wouldn't take anything but a bottle. Just keep offering lots of milk. Has he been drooling lately? Check in with the dr in the morning.

to cool him down you can also try putting a cool cloth with some ice in it between his thighs and wet down his forearms. Both hold major blood vessels. You can also give him infant liquid tylenol, that is safe. Personally I thonkhe's teething, my son did the same thing. When he cut his first molars it was two weeks of craziness. If you are worried, talk to his doctor in the morning and go to the er if you think he is getting really bad during the night. Good luck I hope he's ok.

Hi Meagen, do not put him in a cool bath or remove his clothes. These methods are not used anymore because babies were becoming too cold and shivering which then INCREASES their temperature.

You can give him a tepid bath (that means warm but not luke warm but NOT cool). But his temp isn't high enough to start bathing yet.

The most effective way to reduce a temp is to give paracetamol. It will reduce his temp by 2-3 degrees.

If it is 100.4 then he just has a fever, a fever is not something to get all worried about it, it is the bodies natural defence against infection. Just keep his fluids up and take him to the doctor tomorrow.

If it is 102.4 (though I do not believe you are supposed to add 2 to an underarm temp) then that is considered a high temp, but it is not dangerously high. Just make sure he is not overdressed (dress him the same as you) and keep offering water - and again - most importantly give him some paracetamol (I think Tylenol is the common one for kids in the US.)

If you are very worried, as it seems you are, call the hospital and ask to talk to someone.

A temp of above 104.9 is starting to get serious when there is no reason for it and it should not be above this for long periods of time. If his temp becomes this high, that would warrant a trip to the emergency department.

I hope this helps.

I think it sounds like an ear infection also. Definitely take him to the doctor because whatever is giving him a fever will probably only get worse. I hope he feels better soon, good luck

He could have a sore throat. seeing as he is already 1 you can try to give him a little bit of honey before he goes to sleep that might help. Hope he gets better the poor boy.

He may just be having a bad day. Allergies have been aweful around my house this last week. If he feels super warm and you cant get him coller with a luke-warm bath then I would call ur dr. other wise wait till morning and call them if its not better.

ok i would take him to urgent care or er. if anything it will relieve your stress. have you tried tylenol or ibupropen? no barky cough is great. if he does have an ear infection, they will give him something to help him. also have you switched him to whole milk yet? how long has he been switched?

He was up all night, it's only normal that he be sleeping a lot this afternoon. l'd feel relieved if it were my son that he feels well enough to sleep. Could make for a tough night tonight, but if he's better, it's worth it. lf he gets a croupy cough, ever, just take him in the bathroom and turn on the shower to completely hot water to get the room as steamy as you can stand it. The heat will get to you before the steam, and we only want to get them so hot.

thank you so much im just so worried about him he has never been this bad, and now he has a temp of 102.4 well the armpit temp says 100.4 but i was told to add 2 to it, and he doesnt have a barking cough, he is just clingy, fussy, wont eat or hardly drink, has a fever, and is sleeping alot and didnt sleep last night, and his birthday is in two days on tuesday the 29th

Tina - posted on 06/27/2010

watch him for a while. if he gets worse take him to the doctor. there are a number of things. possible teeth but i am leaning against that in my baby that has never made her not eat and drink. an ear infection is my most likely guess...they cause not wanting to lay down flat as this puts pressure on the ear. it can also cause not wanting to suck on bottle because the sucking can hurt. also watch for any wierd sounding coughing, when my daughter had croup she was a lot like this the croup cough sounds like a barking seal, you will know as soon as you hear it. you will be like ok we are going to hospital now!!! um also when was his birthday party? overstimulation can make kids kinda clingy for a while but that dont explain the temp. hope i helped a lil...if you feel he gets worse then take him to er. Good Luck
