Tomorrow is my daughter's first birthday. To me, it is a special day, but to her of course, it's just like any other. I was just wondering what you mom's do on your child's first birthday? We are having a party later on, but I want to do something special tomorrow, too, but what?

Hey Liz, On her actual birthday for my daughter,we went to a religious place in the morning (as is the custom here...) and we invited some family members (grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins) with whom my daughter loves to be and she was very happy with all the attention she got..... everyone left after lunch...Then we took her to a toy shop and bought her some toys she liked....She really enjoyed that part...
I like Katie's zoo idea too...
Oops I just now noticed that ur kid's birthday must have been celebrated already,,,Belated Birthday wishes to your little one....

For both my kids' first birthdays we filled an entire room with balloons the night before, after they went to bed. The look on their faces on bringing them out in the morning was priceless, and they had so much fun wading through them and throwing them around. While it was such a simple thing, it did make it a specialist day for them too, as it was something out of the ordinary and made it not 'just another day'. Have the camera ready as soon as you bring her out as you'll get some priceless pictures of the sheer wonder and joy on her face, you'll enjoy watching her, and you'll have those pictures capturing that precious moment for years to come. The simplest things really do make it special for kids at that age. Anything too complex is too much for them to take in but something simple like that will give hours (or even days) of enjoyment, and you'll have fun joining in with her.

I think a small cake and a picture is a good thing to do on the birthday.
They really won't remember if the party was on the actual day or not but they will look at the pictures later and realized that you cared.

On my son's actual 1st birthday (it was a Tuesday), we took him to the Zoo. He loved looking at all the animals and we brought a children's book from the gift shop when we left to remember the day we had together. We did a party the following weekend for friends and family to help celebrate.

well i got a two year old and for his 1st b'day we put up decorations and had food out and kids over had a blow up pool and yea heaps of toys out then later we got the family together and went out for dinner were he had his 1st cake
