Wii, Playstation 3, or XBOX? Or any suggestions? My son loves video games! Right now, he has a GameCube, but it is time to update!

I must say WII, especially The Resorts Games. Our Family's have WII game nights on Sat. It's kind of like bowling nights. Everyone gets to play, have fun, and spend time with each other. My 6yr. old is great at the bowling & basketball ones. Take him to bowling alley and he sucks. Go figure!!!!

My family loves the Wii its great for all ages! my young nephews can compete with their older cousins. The dance game is a blast for everyone! It gets your child moving instead of just sitting.

Nintendo Wii Console with Just Dance 3

and we have the family feud game which is a great family time game.

We have a Wii and it's nice. I love that fact that it gets him up and moving.
However, I want to the the XBOX 360 because they now have Kinect which actually gets them moving even more than the Wii. Instead of holding a control and moving around, your body IS the control.
With a lot of Wii games, as long as you are moving your hands correctly, you don't have to do the rest of the motion. With Kinect, you must use your entire body because the sensors "see" your whole body.

I would say a wii it has all types of games educational, fun, and they get exercise playing it. We have one and my kids love it I still limit the amount of time they spend on it though :)

We don't have any large game systems, but here the Wii is awesome. My 6 and 9 yr olds love their Nintendo DS's. Lots of games and you can take it with you on trips, waiting at the Dr's, etc.

I know, many people say "educational!" but as you said your son has that already. lol. I try to make things educational as much as the next parent, but sometimes you need something FUN!! That would be the Wii!!! My 5 year old loves it now. There are games geared towards younger kids, too. My son loves the Wii Sporrts Resort. It helps him learn focus, control and gets him active!!! I can't say enough good things about the Wii. I love how you get to be active while playing, not just sitting down pressing buttons! I seriously can get real arm and cardio exsersize going with certain games! (boxing is a tough one! lol arms get sore after awhile and you can even get winded if you work hard enough! lol) Go for the Wii and good luck!!

We have a Wii and the Playstation 3 but I would have to recomend the Wii. It has alot more games that are kid friendly (ie no violence). You can even connect it to the internet to download all the origional Nintendo games like Mario Bros. You can also buy a remote like the old ones that is easier for kids to use. However, the PS3 does play blue ray movies if you are into that. My daughter is 7 and she really only likes the Wii. Have you thought about a portable system? For her birthday we got her the Nintendo DS. She really loves it. It has tons of games and alot of them you can get for around $10-15. That and she can take it with her when we have to be in the car for a long time. Hope that helps.

I have a 6 year old who loves his older brother PSP I have found many of the games that he can play at Game Stop. Lego Star Wars and Lego Batman are his favorite. Also its perfect for taking with you on trips or to the grocery store. I put him in the cart and he is to busy playing his game instead of asking to go look at toys.LOL

I think Wii is the best because you can get the games where your child actually has to get up and move and interact with the game.

A lot of the other systems don't have that and kids become lazy and have video games consume them and they need to be active.JMO

I agree with the Wii. My son is 7 and he loves it. I even have work out games for my self, and extra Wii remotes for other kids if his firends want to come over and play too. Great Family play!!!!

The best thing to do is go to your local store were you are planning to buy your sons new system and look at the games that particular system offers for your sons age range. Also look at which one that has the most games that would interest your son. I wouldn't recommend the XBOX simply because out of all the systems out there its the only one that gives me a migraine/headache a few minutes after the system is turned on. My daughter is 4 and she enjoys the games I have for the Wii. Hope this helps you.

I suggest getting a Wii. I have a 4 yr old and a 9 yr old and they both love to use it. I use it as well. My favorite thing about the Wii is that there are many games that get the kids actually moving instead of just sitting on the couch moving their fingers on the controller.

For all around playability and selection of games that are most likely to be age-appropriate for your son (and game selection he can grow into) I'd have to say the XBOX or XBOX360. Wii and Playstation 3 are newer consoles and have fewer selections that aren't for older players. The XBOX360 will play most of the original XBOX games on disk and many are available for download as well from the XBOX site.

If you are looking for a handheld system for him to play on road trips, etc. I'd say the Nintendo DS rather than the Playstation portable, again because there are a lot of games available for the DS that are age appropriate, and there is more game selection for both the XBOX systems and the DS.

If you are concerned about physical activity and that is why you are looking at the Wii, most of the activity is limited with the Wii games, so you're best option is getting a system with games he'll like and then limiting the playtime on it so that he gets physical activity as well - when our daughters are old enough, they'll be allowed 15-60 mins of game time (depending on age), and be told that they are to have at least the same amount of physical activity time that day as well.

Um, my husband just told me the wii would be better for him if he had the gamecube. X-box and playstation 3 have more family oriented games, i.e.- penguins of madagascar. The wii is more difficult because you have to move the handle a certain way in order to get a reaction (which might be good to help hand I coordination) as the Playstation and xbox are more like the GameCube controller wise. But the wii have some great workout things and more physical games. It just depends on what you are looking for. Haha, my husband loves to help people with gaming questions so you just made his day.

Well the parent in my would say why get a video game but I understand... also I would say how about like a leap frog learning game, but kids don't really want those. So I would have to say for a younger kids that Wii would be a good choice and they are very interactive and get kids up to play and its great for parents too with the Wii fit, but I also would have to say a 360 which are also very family friendly... I have played them all. A PS3 is more of a serious system but they are coming out with something called IPet and its really cute for kids its like having a real pet that they have to clean and feed and play without the mess... I have a PS3 and haven't seen many games for kids out... also i would consider a hand held like a DS or new DSi they are a lot of fun and have a lot of kid games as dose the Wii... well i know i said a lot but i hope it helps and if you have anymore questions before you buy feel free to ask me... i also have a blog at gamermomz.blogspot.com

good luck

Quoting Cassie:

A V-tech would be good. SOmething educational you know. And after he gets use to that any nintendo system is great for that age range.

I forgot to mention that he has a SmartCycle too.  He is great at video games, so I know he is ready for something bigger and better, you know?  Older?
