baby oils main ingredient is mineral oil and that is not good to use on yourself or your baby. I great oil to use on your baby is olive oil with maybe a few drops of lavender oil in it. mineral oil is a known carcinogen. also alot of people use Vaseline (petroleum jelly or petrolatum) is derived from petroleum (what gas is made of!) and may contain many impurities. The skin, being the body's largest organ, will absorb some of these toxic substances. You do NOT want to put this substance on you or your child's body. I think the best thing to do with these two common baby items is to throw them out!

I got a bottle at my baby shower too and only recently began using it on my 3 month old for cradle cap. When I give her a bath I first rub a few drops on her dry head to moisten it, then let it sit while I bathe her. Then I shampoo, rinse and add a few more drops and when I dry her I brush her head. I'm hoping this will help clear up all the dryness.

Baby oil is good for very young babies with cradle cap. Loosens it up so you can comb it out. But for mommies its nice to slather on after a shower while still wet. Makes skin nice and comes in different scents.

like one said-it's good for cradle cap, which babies get, also putting it on their skin, u have 2 be careful cause it is soo slippery and u don't want the baby to slip away from u. Put a little on the soft spot daily and comb and it helps 2 avoid cradle cap.

The best oil to use is almond oil as it is the closest oil to our own skins' oil...it has nothing else added to it...it lets the skin breath...but generally babies don't need moisturising (apart from bottoms!) as long as they don't have body wash and soap smeared all over their skin in the bath...obviously if they're covered in paint etc then they need a little, but hey the little ones don't get grubby...I personally would never use generic baby oil, too yucky who knows what's in it!

I love using baby oil after shaving my legs. I never used it on my baby, but it's a great moisturizer for smooth legs after a shower and shave. I buy it solely for that reason! :)

I used it to make homemade baby wipes. The recipe is: 2 cups water, 2 T. baby oil and 2 T. baby bath. Cut White, Not Microwaveable, Bounty Paper Towels(or any other kind of thick paper towel) in half, remove the cardboard and put in a plastic container and pour the liquid over it. This would last me a month. I had it at home and folded some to use in the diaper bag. So economical. Otherwise, I would not use it on my baby's body as I heard it did not let their skin breath.

It's funny that this is a topic, My nephew and Daughter just got into a tube of waterproof mascara last night, and I had just read recently that baby oil helps get it off, and sure enough it does. I also use it for removing the sticky stuff left behind from bandaids and stuff. Something about the oil gets it right off. I have also heard of using it like lotion, but to me it is just too runny and oily (lol). I prefer to use it as a cleaner. Or else just return it to the store, and buy something else. Good Luck!!

When my babies had cradle cap, I would rub some on their heads, then take a soft baby brush, massage in a gentle circular motion, and it comes right off:) works great! Other than that, I never use it.

I never use it on Kalli-Mae and we never did on my bother Dakota either. It can "suffocate the skin." It can clog pores and cause problems for the baby since you can't really exfoliate your child's skin because of it being so sensitive. So I save all my baby oil for the winter months and primarily use it on my legs & feet. Or as of my first real winter here in Nebraska last year, sometimes on my cheeks and nose. I also used it a great deal when modeling. Three times a day on my skin & hair for a week before a shoot. Shower in morning, exfoliate shave, baby oil. Wash hair, no conditioner just some baby oil. Took a lot of showers but it really helped condition my hair and skin & though a pain to get out of your hair (use a clarifying shampoo or a little apple cider vinegar) it was worth it. Just be sure to exfoliate your skin before shaving especially and wear old sweats so you don't ruin good clothes.

It is good to deter biting insects away from your child....I have a daughter who seems very tasty to mosquitoes, fleas, spiders, etc....we tried many different types of repellent but baby oil seemed to work the best...they would land on her and suffocate before they could bite her....She is almost 8 now and we still use it on her when she goes outside or to someones house who may have an infestation of fleas.

I used to rub baby oil on my stomach while I was in the shower (during pregnancy) - it is supposed to keep your skin soft and help to prevent stretch marks. There was a report on here in Australia about baby oil being very bad for babies due to some ingredient in it. A baby almost died from inhaling it in his/her bath so I threw mine away and have never bought it since. But years ago I used to shave with it and my legs used to come up nice and soft.

emma cigarettes cause cancer (proven, actually proven) and they are still sold...tanning beds cause skin cancer and they are still legal...I haven't done research on baby oil but it could very well cause cancer for all I know.
I don't use it on my baby (tried it for cradle cap didn't work) but I used to add it to my bath when I was preggo this winter and had terribly itchy skin all the time!

lol! too funny! i have had the same bottle of baby oil gel for 3 years. i finally figures out to use it for cradle cap (put some on their scalp and comb it thru for a bit before a bath an then wash their hair) and getting tatoos off of our 3yr old. but i think it will be w/me for a long time to come. that and cotton balls - not too sure what they're for other than wetting them to keep an infant's eyes clean.

I used baby oil for my son't cradle cap and to keep the rest of his skin moisturized and smooth. It also works great on adults! Add a little to your fav. body wash and use it as a shaving cream. You'll get a closer shave and your legs will be so soft and smooth you won't even need to put lotion on after shaving! I love it in the winter, to keep my skin from drying out and to skip having to put lotion all over my body every time I shower!

I've used it for the past 5 years on my three babies for homemade baby wipes. Cut a roll of bounty paper towels in half and remove the cardboard. In a tub w/ an airtight lid mix 1 cup water, 1 tablespoon baby soap, and 1 tablespoon baby oil. Add the paper towel roll and wait for it to absorb all the water. Pull roll from the center.
It saves a lot of $$$ over the duration of the diaper years.

I agree with Gena C. I am a skin care consultant and I will tell you that not only is the mineral oil a by product of petroleum (gasoline), but it is cheaper for the petroleum companies to sell it to cosmetic/skin care companies than it is for them to dispose of it safely. It not only coats the skin so toxins can't escape, but the toxins from the mineral oil go straight to your baby's liver. I would never use it on my baby or myself.

baby oil is no good for babies. Look at the ingredients and you see baby oil, sunscreen oil, bath, body and massage oils, make-up removers, nail enamel dryers, eucalyptus, camphor and clove oils - are all made from mineral oil, a petroleum ingredient from crude oil.

Instead of baby oil for cradle cap use olive oil. It works just as well and it's not toxic. For moisturizing use something listed at this link: http://www.cosmeticsdatabase.com/special...

I used Baby Oil everyday in the shower and rubbed it all over my belly and never got a stretch mark. I also used it on my son when he came home from the hospital instead of lotion. I used the oil because it was non fragranced and I didn't want anything to irritate his skin. He is almost two and I still use it on him when he gets out of the bath and when I take a bath I put it in the water and it keeps my skin smooth!

To answer you on your question!!!!!!!!......... it can be used in baies bath water, cradle cap. i use it for shaving and removinng my make-up, i also smear my feet with it and wrap my feet with cling wrap to soften craced heels, the main use is to lock in moisture. Its great for masaging your baby too as its too cold for normal moisturiser, the baby oil keeps the heat in while masaging and the cold out. not all of it though , so be sure to give a qiuck masage in the winter.

Emma the American cosmetic laws are woefully out of date—manufacturers aren’t required to disclose all their ingredients on labels, leaving Americans (including babies and children) unknowingly exposed to harmful mystery ingredients. The existing law, passed in 1938, granted decision-making about ingredient safety to the cosmetics industry.
According to the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, most westerners use an average of 10 personal care products each day, resulting in exposure to more than a 100 chemicals—not counting the many undisclosed chemicals in “fragrance.”
Many of these have been linked to adverse health effects like cancer, birth defects and learning disabilities.
There is nothing that the Food and Drug Administration can legally do about it That is why these products are allowed to be sold.
The situation is not much better in most other countries throughout the world.
This is why I urge all parents and caregivers to KNOW what they are putting on their children. Don't just blindly use products thinking they are safe as many are not.

you can also use baby oil to take your make up off as well, so it isnt smudging off it will come off easily with the baby oil, and if you have any make up brushes you can also use the baby soap to clean those because it is so gentle it wont damage the make up brushes for cover up or whatever make up brushes are used for lol, i dont use any make up other than eye liner

Baby oil uses: Hair. Cradle cap. Curly haired babies. Hair styling. My DS has a TON of hair (since birth - never ever fell out lol) and when I do little piggy tails or double french braids (yes, THAT much hair!) I use a dab of baby oil on my thumb and forefinger and work it in as I go. It helps hold her wispys in place and keeps her hair looking freshly done.
