What is the best remedy for constipation/gas?

Hello Sherrine, how are you? If I was you I would not wait any longer and try to get your son in to see a doctor right away because he could have a serious condition called geurd I know it sounds weird but my little eleven month old niece had this. So it is not very in common to hear about I would really mention it to the doctor.

My daughter was one month when they started her on pear juice 1oz juice and 1oz water 1 x's a day every day we also switched to Enfamil Gentlelease made specially for infants with fussiness and gas she wasn't terribly constipated she just pooped solid like rock solid poo

Also after talking to a few doctors and doing my own research Apple juice is more likely to bind up the child then to loosen them up I'd stick to prunes and pears!

all 3 of mine have had constipation and gas i know how you feel. you can try a few drops of kayro syurp in their bottle it helps alot just dont over do it works wonders and he is not to young for it cause thats what i asked my dr too and he said it would help thats where i got it from and it has worked with all 3 my youngest is 4 mo and she gets it bout once a day cause im breastfeeding with my oldest he got it 2 or 3 depending on how constipated he was hope it helps good luck

For the gas you could try infacol, you can get it from the supermarket or pharmacy in Australia, or gripe water, I find infaco works much better. As far as the constipation goes you might need to change formulas and make certain that you are not adding too much formula to the milk. I know when I was trialling formulas I did get confused at times because different brands had different sizes scoops and different measurements. Here we have specific brands at the pharmacy which are designed for constipation. If it were me, I would just try a new formula each week until I got it right. I cant remember because I was breast feeding at that age but I think you can give a small amount of water to formula feeding babies, you might need to check that with your doctor because I know you cant while your breast feeding because it can cause water intoxication but I seem to recall that it might be ok for formula fed?,check with your doctor first. But it would make sense if you are able to , like another mum said constipation can be caused by dehydration, my baby is now formula fed and I give her water but she is almost 5 months. I found many formulas caused constipation in my daughter, finally I started her on Nestle nan pro gold and she has had no problems. Hope this helps, I am rambling a little!

always dilute juice. but at one month he is too young to be able to digest any of that stuff i would think.. perhaps you should dilute his formula a little more.. constipation in babies usually signals dehydration.. formula is often iron fortified so it can cause constipation also.
try giving baby a small bottle of water each day or add more water to the formula..

For constipation I use 1/2 oz of prune juice. My DR said do 1 oz., but a half oz is working so that's what I'm doing.

OMGosh! My son had the WORST problem with this. He just turned 4 months and it has finally gotten better! IDK if you formula feed or breastfeed... or do both, but I did both breast and formula Breast during the day, and a bottle or 2 of formula at night). There is a formula called Nutramigen (it is an Enfamil brand) and it did wonders. He started to poop every 2 days vs once a week. For gas the only thing that worked for us was Mylicon drops. You can also pull his knees to his chest and make motions like he is riding a bike... sometimes that helps too! Good luck!
