When my son was about that age and we first started him on a cup, we bought those Nuby brand and really liked them. But in a few months he had chewed the soft tops until they leaked, so we switched to mostly using the Take and Toss ones. I like these because they have a super simple spout without valves and stuff for milk, juice, whatever to get trapped in, which I've found is nearly impossible to fully clean. However, when he drops the Take and Toss style cups, the lid can pop off and make a mess, too. Avent sippys are my favorite valved ones, because the valve is the easiest of any I've found to keep clean.
