Ok first could be more then that. I have hyperthyroid and my hair falls out like crazy. Some people don't know they have it cause there can be no signs. But here are some other things to look for. Hands shaking all the time. Hard time sleeping (not just because of a new baby lol) high heart rate. It can also look like you have an Adam's apple. If you do have any of these talk to your doctor.

I had my baby on June and I started to loose my hair badly. My front is literally bald I'm taking my prenatal along with biotin but it is still falling in chunks the good news is that I see new hair growing. I guess biotin is helping and also using mane and tale shampoo and conditioning might help. Good luck to both of us.

I am 51 years old and have been losing my hair since I was 30.
I went to the doctor and I had a thyroid problem so I am on medicine.
I still have hair loss in clumps when I wash my hair.
I just recently asked my Dr about the thinning of my hair and she told
me to try BIOTA it cost 34.99 at CVS pharmacy I am still having clumps
of hair come out.
Someone else had posted she used Mane n Tail it is a shampoo and conditioner
and it worked some what so I bought it at Kmart today, she bought it at Walmart .
It was 7.50 for each, huge bottles.
I will let you all know if I notice a difference. I feel for all of you with this problem!!!!!!
Jackie (hopeful)

I used to have nice thick hair, my hair started falling out when I was about 30, I have been to the Dr and I do have a thyroid problem and am taking medication, my hair is still falling out when I take a shower I have a clump of hair in my hand when I condition it.
My Dr told me to try BIOTA which you can get at cvs or any pharmacy it is 39.00, It has been a month now and I don't see any difference. If anyone has something that does work I would be very grateful to know what it is. Frustrated Jackie

So glad i came across this post, as for the past month i have noticed a LOT of hair loss (i gave birth 10 months ago). My hair literally comes out in chunks. Whether wet or dry. I was severely vitamin D deficient post twin pregnancy, and after taking 5000IU every day for a few months, it is back to normal. However, the increased vitamin levels haven't yet helped my hair loss. I have long dark hair, and its as if i am on chemo, it falls out in clumps. I find my hair everywhere, so its really confronting. Its started to thin out quite a bit, so i'm hoping the hair loss (if normal post pregnancy) will eventually die down to the normal rate of hair loss. I wear my hair up so as not to notice the hair loss as much, and to try and prevent it from happening. But as soon as i let my hair down, it comes out in chunks, so nice try on my part :o) I hope this doesn't last too much longer as i WILL be bald! But come to think of it, after reading some of your posts, i will have my thyroid gland checked, as, despite exercising EVERY day and doing weights and stomach crunches, my weight has not shifted at all -and i have about 50 pounds to lose :o(

I have another problem. It is called Trichotillamania the habit of pulling your own hair out and I mostly did it when I was child, but it has come back due to stress and I am fighting for custody of one of my children. I go around with this ugly some what bald spot on top of my head my son and his father see it at home. I try to remember to wear a hat when I go out. I is sad waiting for ot to grow in and uncomfortable as well. I actually feel the lack of hair like a tension. Like when you were a little girl and your ponytail was pulled back too tight it is that painful. Tuck. I think that I know what you are going through. Rogain does help hair to grow in quicker and thicker. It does not matter if you get the kind for men or the kind for women. Actually what I feel like is that I have a poisen dart in my head.

Not sure if I'm repeating anyone but you should get your thyroid checked. It's a simple blood test. TSH level should be around 2.0 but this can vary depending on the individual.

Good Luck

We actually stop losing ost hair during pregnancy. Since we lose around 50-100 hairs per day normally, this can cause what seems to be very heavy hair loss after the pregnancy. It is just backed up from months of not losing any. It should stop pretty soon on it's own.

I wash my hair once or twice a week that helped. But washing it less should help but until your hormons balance a little there is no stop cure.

I also had the same problem. I Had my thyroid checked (twice), iron levels, etc etc. I also was a big sugar eater after having kids. My last child was born in April of 2010 and I was losing hair rapidly from then until just recently when I cut a lot (not all) sugar from my diet. It has stopped falling out so much now. It very well could be all of those other things or it could be fixed just by making a few diet changes. Good luck:)

I agree with the vitamins thing, but I believe even if you take them, they won't stop your hair from falling it happens to me with every baby, with the second I got completly bold on the sides... not nice but it came back, I believe the vitamins helped a little I also cut my hair shorter, I could no t have it up because then you would see the bold spots... it's only 2 weeks until I have my third baby and I guess I will have to experience that all over again.

I had my son in 2010 and my hair still falls out daily, but I have anemia due to iron deficiency, so perhaps you should get a blood test done to see if you may be anemic too. I have to take iron pills and vitamins, but I'm not consistent with taking them, so my hair continues to fall out.

Vitamins are a great way to supplement the nutrients you may not be getting enough of in your diet. But taking too many vitamins is VERY VERY DANGEROUS! It's not "just a vitamin" and you do not excrete what you don't use. There are two kinds of vitamins, water soluble and non-water soluble. The non-solable vitamins are very toxic when taken in excessive amounts. If you look on your bottle, often you will see that the amount exceeds the daily recomended values. Even the water soluble kind can be harmful if taken to extremes. Please check with your healthcare professionals before taking any medications including vitamins to be sure that they are safe for you with your particular health issues. I can't think of a doctor's office not answering such a simple question over the phone if you call and ask.

My dr sent me 2 a specialist [dermatologist] and she said it was areotic alopecia. Basically hair loss due 2 stress. She said it was up 2 me to get a hold of myself and calm down from stressors I allowed 2 get 2 me. It worked. It was very much mental health work and all the spots that were quarter sized and hairless are now filled in. So much so that I was able to cut my long hair that covered the bald spots. It will work out girl. Btw I am 41 yrs old.

Try getting a shampoo & conditioner called Nixon. Now u cant buy it urself unless u find it at a salon but see of u can get a hair stylist 2 get it 4 u. It will help ur hair 2 grow back. But on the bad side if ur hair isn't naturally growing back on it's own by the time u stop using it ur hair will just thin out again. I just know that Nixon is what I was taught while I was going 2 school 2 do hair is the best at hair regrowth. And yes postpartum hairloss is a common condition.

Yep, I agree. Check your thyroid. It happened to me too. Aside from that, I was getting light headed, always tired and I felt like I couldn't think. Kind of like being in a fog and eating didn't help. Another sign may be if your weight hasn't changed. My normal weight was always around 140, but of course after having my son I went up to 160 and for some reason no matter what I did, diet and exersize did nothing to change it. It's actually a common problem so check it out for sure! Good luck.

Go to your doctor & have your complete lipid pannel done.. it could be something a little more serious than hormone changes... like your thyroid glang...

You can also opt for low hormone BC if that is happening since not everyone's husband is willing to go under the knife. Not even mine as wonderful as he is wants to do that.

[deleted account]

My hair was like that after #2. Come to find out it was my birth control. I had some hair fall out after #1, but nothing like with #2. I didnt lose any hair with #3 but I wasnt on any sort of bc. Just an idea but you might want to look into that & switch what you are on if you are on anything. I had the option because my husband had a vasc. when I was pregnant. Best thing I ever did for my body was get rid of the extra hormones.

Amanda I experianced rapid weight loss and vomiting when mine started acting up. I didn't think much about the hair. I didn't really think about it until I had thrown up 8 times in one day and that didn't feel normal.

Also feel for a goiter or as Amanda said, adam's apple. There's a lot of stuff we as women and moms don't think about concerning our health since we're so concerned about everyone elses

It's just a vitamin and anything not absorbed into your body is eliminated through your urine. My OBGYN and my endocrynologist had me taking extra B6 at the beginning of my pregnancy to help with my nausea and vomiting caused by my thyroid.

And that brings me to my next topic. Sarah, have you had your thyroid checked? Because I had extreme hair loss and then weight weight loss and vomiting after I had my first daughter. I had some blood work done and it turns out I had a hyper active thyroid caused by hormone changes due to pregnancy and post natal.

It's always my first thought now whenever someone mentions excessive hair loss after pregnancy or all day sickness during pregnancy because those were signs for me.

I second the vitamin comment; I believe B vitamins are supposed to help with that. I've also noticed that my hair falls out more if I stop taking my vitamins for a while, and have had serious hair loss with both my babies. (Worse the second time around). Good luck!

I have two boys and am pregnant with my third and have always experienced a lot of hair loss and a lot of the time it is in clumps too. After my second son, I noticed it took nearly a year to see any difference.

I have the same problem. I use shampoo and conditioner called Mane 'N Tale. I buy it at Wal-Mart out of the pet section. As weird as it sounds its for horses and humans. My doctor is the one who suggested I try it out. My hair still falls out some but nothing like it used to! Hope you find something that works for you!
